Chapter 33: You’re adorable when you’re scared
As they stood by the register, paying for the snacks, Haeun’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and saw Taeun’s name flash across it. With a soft sigh, he answered the call.
"Hyung," Taeun’s voice came through, calm but straightforward as always. "Can you come by the company tomorrow? We’ve got a new beta game that needs testing before the release."
Haeun nodded to himself, already anticipating the request. "I figured. I’ll come by tomorrow to check them out. I’d almost forgotten at Project ARIES," he said before glancing at Yeongsoo briefly. "Tae, next time have them deliver the next batches directly to me at home. I’ll review them and send them back to you."
Taeun let out a brief hum of acknowledgment. "Alright, you’re the boss. I’ll get everything ready."
Haeun ended the call, slipping his phone back into his pocket. He looked over at Yeongsoo, who was now watching him quietly, waiting.
"Work stuff?" Yeongsoo asked as they began walking out of the store.
"Yeah, they need me to test a beta game tomorrow before it’s released," Haeun said with a small smile, the thought of diving back into gaming gave him a quiet kind of joy.
"You want to go on your own?"
Haeun paused giving Yeongsoo a look, why the heck would he want to go alone. Having Yeongsoo with him was much more better than going alone. After all he still needed his pheromones.
"Why did heck would I want to go alone, I need my boyfriend to come along with me. You are free tomorrow right?"
Yeongsoo stroked his chin, he had to drop by the base tomorrow but since Haeun wanted him to go along with him, he would take him there first.
"Alright, we’ll go to wherever you want to go.."
Haeun chuckled as he stared at Yeongsoo, now all he could see Yeongsoo as was a cute puppy, following its owner but he couldn’t tell him that and kept chuckling.
"What’s so funny.."
Yeongsoo asked, pinching Haeun’s cheeks who immediately pouted.
"Don’t do that, I’m not a little kid.."
"..."
"Then why do you look so cute, c’mon it’s getting late let’s head come.."
As they entered the apartment, Haeun wanted to take a step inside and sighed, he’d worn them outside and now he couldn’t wear them in. He let out a soft sigh, a mix of regret and amusement crossing his face.
"Guess these have to stay off now, huh?" he muttered, slipping them off and placing them by the door.
Yeongsoo glanced down at the slippers and smiled softly. "I’ll get you another pair, just for indoors like I promised," he said, his tone light. "You seem pretty attached to them."
Haeun chuckled, shrugging as he walked further inside. "They’re comfortable, okay? And cute. Can’t blame me for liking them."
Yeongsoo watched him for a moment, setting the snack bags on the counter. "You really are something else," he said with a quiet chuckle. "Now, about that movie..."
Haeun grinned, heading straight for the couch, where he grabbed the remote. He flipped through the options while glancing at Yeongsoo, who was already making his way to sit beside him.
"I’ve already picked one out, it’s called "Cries from the black forest.."
"You sure you won’t be scared?"
Yeongsoo asked as he placed the snacks on the coffee table, making sure he placed them as close as possible to Haeun.
"Yeah.."
As they settled on the couch, Haeun eagerly grabbed the remote and clicked on the movie, Cries from the Black Forest. The opening credits rolled, accompanied by eerie music that set the tone for the film.
"Are you sure you won’t be scared?" Yeongsoo asked playfully, a teasing smile on his face as he arranged a pillow on his lap, inviting Haeun to rest his head on it.
"Pfft, please! I can handle it," Haeun replied confidently, though he was already inching closer, nestling his head against the pillow.
As the story unfolded, Haeun jumped at the first loud sound, clutching the pillow tightly. Yeongsoo couldn’t help but laugh softly at his reaction. "See? I told you it would be intense!"
"Shut up! It was just a little scare!" Haeun retorted, though a sheepish smile crept onto his face. He settled back into the pillow, but the tension in the movie made it hard for him to relax completely.
With each new jump scare, Haeun startled and clutched Yeongsoo’s leg tighter. "Okay, maybe a little scary," he admitted, his heart racing.
Yeongsoo chuckled again, enjoying the sight of Haeun’s wide eyes glued to the screen. "You’re adorable when you’re scared."
"Stop! I’m not adorable!" Haeun protested, turning slightly pink as he tried to focus back on the movie.
Despite his bravado, Haeun’s eyes began to grow heavy. The more he relaxed against the pillow, the more the tension of the movie lulled him into a sense of comfort. Before long, he found himself dozing off, his breathing softening as he drifted into sleep.
Yeongsoo glanced down, noticing Haeun’s peaceful expression and the way his eyelids fluttered slightly. A smile tugged at his lips. "Looks like someone couldn’t handle it after all," he murmured softly.
When a particularly loud crash echoed from the screen, Haeun jolted awake, eyes wide. "W-What happened?" he stammered, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep.
"You jumped again," Yeongsoo said, laughter bubbling in his chest. "Are you sure you want to keep watching?"
Haeun groaned, rubbing his eyes. "I can’t believe I fell asleep! How far into the movie are we?"
"Not far enough," Yeongsoo replied, pausing the film. "You’ve been out for a while. How about we call it a night?"
Haeun pouted slightly, reluctant to let go of the movie but also feeling the weight of his exhaustion. "But I want to know what happens!"
"Don’t worry," Yeongsoo said, ruffling Haeun’s hair affectionately. "I’ll fill you in tomorrow. Right now, you need your beauty sleep."
"Fine," Haeun sighed, yawning as he leaned back against the couch. "You’re right."
Yeongsoo chuckled as he turned off the TV. "Let’s get you to bed, then."
He helped Haeun to his feet, wrapping an arm around him to steady him as they made their way to the bedroom. "You’re lucky you’re cute when you’re sleepy," Yeongsoo teased, glancing down at Haeun, who was leaning against him.
Haeun nudged him playfully. "Shut up. Just get me to bed."
With a soft laugh, Yeongsoo guided Haeun into the bedroom, carefully helping him under the covers. "Goodnight, Haeun," he whispered, brushing a gentle hand through his hair.
"Goodnight," Haeun mumbled, his eyes already fluttering shut again.
