Chapter 108 - 107: Paragon VS Ryan!

Chapter 108: Chapter 107: Paragon VS Ryan!

Excellent archery and strength thought Drake in awe. He tightened his grip on the spear and charged towards Ryan.

The opponent was one who focused on long ranged combat as an Archer. Drake had to get close if he wanted to defeat him.

Ryan did not remain still after firing the three arrows but had instead bolted away trying to gain some distance. Using a special footwork he ran around the grassy plains firing arrow after arrow at Drake.

Ryan Ross was not only fast, but was also able to shoot while running. The arrows were not at all affected by his movement. Unable to trap Ryan Ross with his spear, Drake had to run after Ryan while dodging his arrows.

Drake had a lot of respect for this opponent of his, who had much better footwork than him, and could shoot arrows in all positions when moving with both great strength and accuracy.

Drake had also trained in archery, when he had been training with Queen, so he too could shoot while doing the same and he understood just how much focus was needed for this technique and yet, still bring out maximum output and accuracy.

It wasn’t something you could just pick up on the streets with some change. No, it required dedication.

Drake had also tried practicing his archery after he became a mage. But he could not shoot while moving and controlling his magic power at the same time. He was only able to shoot with magic power when standing still. His accuracy would suffer a lot if he tried to move.

Drake had to admit it. Right now, Ryan Ross was indeed much better than him in archery, so Drake was not in a hurry to end the match. Instead, he started to observe his opponent and learn from him.

The ’Eyes of Order’ paid very close attention to every detail of Ryan’s. Whether be it, his breathing pattern, his footwork, how his muscles tensed and relaxed, how he aimed, how his magic power moved and so on and so forth.

Drakes match had also attracted a lot of peoples attention. After all, Paragon was popular.

The number of viewers now watching Paragon had gone to over 5000 by now. Most of them had thought they could see something good if they watched this fight.

Unfortunately, they were disappointed to see Paragon being led around on a wild goose chase by the elusive Archer.

A minute later, Drake stopped chasing his opponent.

Ryan had a scornful look on his face; as he stared at Drake who had stopped chasing after him. He had full confidence in his footwork, that there was no way Drake could catch up to him with the ability Drake had displayed thus far.

The Audience wondered what was going on, Ryan also stopped to see what he was up to. But Drake did not let them wait for long.

Paragon took a step forward then swung the spear around him at the same time he spun with the spear in his grasp. When he completed a rotation, he threw the spear forward

The long spear pierced through the air with a buzzing sound at it was launched forward.

Ryan was surprised by the sudden action by his opponent that he burst into laughter.

Haha, you actually threw your weapon away?

The audience also shook their heads in disappointment. They had come here because their friends had told them that this Paragon guy was something. Who would have expected him to make such a low level mistake like throwing his weapon.

Even the ones who had seen Paragon’s first fight were all truly disappointed.

The spear shot through the air like a bullet at Ryan.

Ryan watched as it reached him, then he leaned just a little to the side allowing the Spear to pass by beside him.

Just as the Spear had passed by beside him, the opponent who had been standing over 20 meters away suddenly vanished.

’Eh?’

The next second, Paragon’s figure appeared right next to him. His hand gripping the Spear firmly.

This was a special skill of the Space Element that Drake and the twins had found in the Academy’s library. This skill was called ’Chase!’

’Chase’ allowed a Space element mage to infuse their magic power into an object turning that weapon into a marker or a node with the mage’s imprint.

When space mages teleport, they could only get to places that their domains covered. This is because only this area had the mages imprint marked on it. But if the mage wanted to teleport farther than their domain they had to mark that area with their imprint.

The problem is that a 2 star mage could not control their magic power once it went farther that a few inches from their body. Once they lost control over that energy, it would quickly disperse into the environment.

But the Space element was a domain type of affinity, so almost all of it’s functions had to do with distance and range. So space type energy does not lose the Space mages imprints easily.

The Chase magic skill gives the space mage the ability to teleport beyond the limits of their domain; that is by creating an artificial imprint and infusing it into an object. When this happens the imprinted object would turn into a kind of marker, that the Space mage would still be able to sense at a farther distance.

Then the mage would lock onto the position of that artificial imprint, using their teleportation they would directly use their own energy and the energy infused into the object carrying their imprint to cross to the location of their imprint.

Drake spun with the Spear in his hand and pierced straight into his opponent.

’Space Mage!’

Ryan was given a fright when Drake suddenly appeared next to him. He had never imagined that Paragon would be a mage with Space series affinity.

He hastily jumped away to evade the incoming spear tip, but the tip of the spear that was spinning like a drill; seemed to possess a suction kind of force that pulled him towards it.

There was nothing Ryan could do, the opponents weapon was too long, and he had let his guard down and let Paragon get too close.

When the fight had started he had quickly put some distance between them just in case the opponent happened to be a teleporter. A space affinity mage was the greatest weakness of an archer, since they could close distances in an instant. But Drake had chased him on foot without teleporting, and this had caused him to dismiss the idea that his opponent was a Space affinity mage, leading him to let his guard down.

The Spear went straight through Ryan’s chest. Ryan gripped the Spear a bit unwilling to have lost so easily. He had not even had time to show his true skills, he felt so grieved. A few seconds later he died.

The audiences watching were all filled with surprise, as they saw Paragon disposed of his opponent swiftly.

A white light flashed over Ryan’s slumped body and teleported him out of the battlefield.

Paragon Wins!

The Officials voice resounded.

...

Ryan reappeared in a waiting and changing room, somewhere in the Arena. However, unlike one would expect, he was not dead nor was he on the verge of death. No, he looked like he had never been in a fight, where his life had been on the line. He was completely fine.

In fact, he looked like he was in tip-top shape. There were no injuries and not even a scar was left behind.

This was the special power of the Arena; it was also the reason why the Arena was so popular.

The Arena looked like it was like just a giant piece of architecture, but it wasn’t. It was actually a giant treasure. No one knew where the Obsidian Palace had found this treasure, but one of its special abilities was ’revival’.

As long as you died in the Arena, you could be revived.

It’s not that you would not die; it’s just that before your bodies functions completely shut down, the master of the Arena could use the Arena’s special power of revival to completely restore you back to tip-top shape like nothing ever happened. It also had the power to help to stabilize the mind of the one who had just faced death, so there was practically no chance of being traumatized. Unless it was under special cases.

Even if your whole body was to be split into pieces, the Arena could restore it as long as it was within a specific time range. Otherwise you really would die.

This special effect made the Arena the best place for all competitions since the participants could go all out without fear of death.

The Empire had tried claiming the Arena for it self to serve for military purposes as they had claimed. But at the end of the day, they had failed.

Nobody knew what had gone down between the imperials and the Obsidian Palace but at the end of it all, the imperials had retreated leaving the Arena and never to try vying for control over it again.

However, it was believed that the Imperials had retreated because they had drawn out a terrifying figure, who turned out to be the master of the Arena.

Since then, the Arena was only used for one purpose and one purpose only. It was used as a battlefield for competitions.

Ryan had just been revived by the Arena, despite facing death.

As he sat quietly in that waiting room, the details of his battle registered in his mind.

Ryan raised himself and got out of the room. A few minutes later, news spread that Ryan was inviting Paragon to ’talk’.

Ryan would have tried using force to find Paragon, but he didn’t dare to try it in the Arena. This was thanks to the Arena’s rules.

If the contestant wanted to reveal their identity, then the Arena would not interfere. But if the client wanted their identity hidden, then you could forget about getting it in the Arena.

The Arena would always protect their customers privacy, sticking strongly to confidentiality.
