Chapter 87: HER FIRST BANQUET 2
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: HER FIRST BANQUET 2
"Bertha, you have seen Logan’s wife before. How does she look?" suddenly Lady Helen asked Bertha who was preparing to watch the drama unfolding in a moment.
Bertha looked at her future mother-in-law with a restrained smile and responded, "She is a loveable person. I am not sure how she will look in your eyes, mother!"
Upon hearing the title mother, Lady Helen’s eyes squinted and Bertha smirked inwardly, finding this old lady truly easy to please just like her son.
"If that’s how you see her, then she must be like that. I wonder how others would see her, though!"
Bertha was also curious about that.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Briar was nervous, especially after seeing so many eyes directed towards their car. She wasn’t a child, so she knew that all those people were basically waiting for them to alight the car.
While it might look like they were interested in her mother-in-law, she was the person that these women wanted to see the most.
At this moment, she was grateful that she had sacrificed four hours of her day to make herself look presentable.
’You can do this, Briar. Remember the courage you faced the ancestors with. If you can’t fear them, then why be scared of people you can deal with easily if you put your mind to it?’ as the door to the car opened, Briar cheered herself.
Once the courage returned, a smile blossomed on her face and Madam Meyer, seeing that, smiled inwardly as she nodded with satisfaction.
Madam Meyer was the first to get out of the car, and once again she wowed the ladies with her choice of outfit. Dressed in a magnificent A-line emerald green evening gown, he looked like she had just stepped out of a nature park.
Everyone knew Madam Meyer’s love for green and emerald. It wasn’t that truly surprising to see her wearing the color. However, it was still shocking how she could still wear the same colors with so much elegance and shine more than others.
However, when Briar finally revealed herself, collective gasps and exclaims sounded. Even Bertha, at this moment, couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
’She should have done this a very long time ago! Wouldn’t she have gotten his heart early?’
The ladies looked at the young woman who had just alighted the car. She wore a light blue tulle off-shoulder evening gown.
Briar emitted youthful vibes and, with the delicate makeup done on her, she looked stunning. All eyes were on her.
Briar smiled politely at the people who were looking at her. With her doing so, she looked a bit meek and the light blue made that gentleness spread.
Bertha, watching all that façade, coughed lightly as she looked aside, laughing inwardly at how appearances were deceiving indeed.
However, one thing was certain: Briar had successfully made her debut, and another character had been forged. She was going to make it big in life.
The most satisfied was Madam Meyer. She didn’t know Briar’s true character, but she knew of her gentleness and love. Seeing her exuding such meekness and yet didn’t seem to be overshadowed or suppressed by those ladies wearing darker colors, her fondness for the other increased.
It was better having such a kind of daughter-in-law than the crazy one. Her family didn’t want more madness.
Madam Meyer took Briar’s arm in hers and the two started walking towards the others.
On the way, Madam Meyer would stop with Briar to chat with her friends and along the way, she introduced Briar as well.
"Oh! This is my daughter-in-law, Logan’s wife!"
"Yes, yes. Yes. She is getting better. Thought of taking her out to get a breather!"
Briar smiled politely and maintained the persona she didn’t even know she could pull off as she was shown off all over.
After walking for a while, they finally reached some familiar faces.
"Madam Meyer and Mrs. Meyer," Bertha greeted politely with a smile as she nodded at the two.
Madam Meyer knew enough about Bertha, so her impression of the other was quite good.
She returned the greeting with a smile. "Doctor Bertha, it’s a pleasure to see you again!"
Bertha smiled at Madam Meyer. "The pleasure is mine, Madam," she responded before looking at Briar and said, "I am glad to see you faring well!" her tone carried a hint of familiarity, making Lady Helen look at her with profound eyes.
Briar smiled sincerely at Bertha and said, "Thank you, doctor. It’s because of you that I am standing here. I never get the chance to thank you properly," still grateful for the way the other pulled her from the jaws of death.
Bertha’s lips curled upwards upon hearing that. She shamelessly said, "Then it’s a date. I happen to be free tomorrow. How about you treat me to lunch?" making an appointment on the spot.
Briar’s eyes twitched as she looked at this person who didn’t know how to tone herself down even in public like that, but still responded with a smile, "Sure. It’s a date. Let’s exchange contact details before the banquet is over."
Bertha smiled knowingly. "Sure. I will definitely look for you if you don’t."
Madam Meyer was very surprised to see this kind of progress, however, it didn’t trigger any suspicions in her mind. It was usual for women in the same circle to treat each other to a meal, especially when the other was the doctor and the other a patient.
Besides, she didn’t mind Briar befriending a person like Bertha. It would be helpful.
With this small talk, Briar and Bertha became close, and Madam Meyer was relieved to have the other tagging with her.
Madam Meyer started talking with Lady Helen and Madam Antonio, while Briar and Bertha followed the ladies as they talked about general stuff.
There were other ladies walking closer to them as well who kept a closer look on Briar, doing their best to pinpoint where exactly they had seen her before.
As for Briar, she was filled with excitement as she was attending her first outside banquet in over a decade and making an appearance as Mrs. Meyer; Logan’s wife.
How could she not be excited?
