Chapter 83: Chapter 83: SHE IS NOT A SIMPLETON 2
Alice was at a loss for words honestly as she listened to this. She had forgotten in a moment of anger that the two of them were enemies before the whole matter exploded.
Briar wasn’t entitled to help her. Even if she had tried, she wouldn’t have believed her at all, but now, did she have a choice?
She took a deep breath and sighed dejectedly. Her temples were throbbing, and she felt as if she could just faint with all the messy thoughts in her head right now.
"Briar, are you sure that he is doing like this?"
[Um. Very sure. I have a few more. Do you want them?]
"You ...." Alice choked when she heard that. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
[Don’t get angry. You will get old soon. I will send them to you. Remember to use them well,] Briar responded before hanging up without giving Alice a chance to say something.
Alice was still at a loss at what she had just heard, but she didn’t get a chance to think much as more videos and photos were received.
When she saw all that, the fury she had suppressed finally burst, and she called her secretary and gave several instructions to the other with a cold gaze.
After giving the instructions, she took a deep breath, and a smile blossomed on her face as she made another call, and this time, a video call.
[Hey babe. Do you miss me?] a male voice sounded as the face belonging to the voice appeared on the screen.
Alice smiled as she looked at the man on the screen, thinking how she must have been a fool, and having her brain filled with so much water. If it wasn’t like that, then she shouldn’t have been fooled by that face and smile.
"Um. I missed you. What are you doing, now?" she asked coyly, her eyes sparkling with affection. It made the other person swell with so much pride.
[How about we meet today, then?]
Alice looked at him with a troubled gaze and the other hurriedly added, [if it’s not possible, then don’t force yourself. You have a lot of work to do, and we can’t avoid that.]
If it was before, she would have felt touched, but now that she knew that his slyness and tricks were much worse than Briar’s, she loathed him. However, she didn’t dare show anything lest she expose herself and startle the snake.
"Um, it’s a bit busy at the moment, but I can make some time the day after tomorrow. How about that?"
[Sure. We can spend some time together then. I have some business meetings to attend to as well. So, I might not be able to give you all the attention that you need.]
Alice and her fiancé chatted affectionately for a moment before a call from the secretary brought an end to the nauseating moment.
After the call ended, Alice’s eyes flashed with a murderous glint as her lips turned upward.
’Just look at the way he doesn’t hesitate to cheer me up on working so that I can’t see him. Tche, this cheating bastard. I will make sure to strip you of everything that you love. How dare you mess with me?’
Time ticked by pretty fast. Before she knew it, it was time to knock off.
On her way home, her secretary was reporting to her about what she found while looking into what Alice had instructed her to.
"Miss, your fiancé indeed has two private houses and, in those houses, there are two ladies living there. When I checked his accounts, there has been money being constantly transferred to these ladies’ accounts, and it has been happening for nearly a year now."
"He dares!" Alice flared angrily as her fists clenched when getting such confirmation.
She didn’t need to hear more than that to accept the fact that her fiancé had been cheating on her for a very long time.
The secretary didn’t stop but continued to report everything that she had found on such short notice.
However, what infuriated her was what the secretary reported last. "There seems to be some connection between him and Anna. Do you want me to dig deeper into it?"
And that was enough to make her react and trigger her to take action.
"They are what?" she asked dumbfoundedly, and in disbelief of what she was hearing.
Anna obviously knew her fiancé. They have been friends for a long time. But how could they have another connection?
That didn’t sound right in her ears at all, and a plot seemed to be brewing.
"There were certain transactions I recognized, and the account belongs to Anna. I once sent money on that account, so I remember it very clearly."
When she heard that, Alice started laughing maniacally, tears streaming down her cheeks. She cried like that for a while and once the tears were gone; an icy glare was all that remained.
"Get me everything before noon tomorrow. Since they dare to play me a fool, I will show them what I am capable of!" she icily ordered, and the secretary was happy to oblige.
She had always hated Anna to the bones. While she hides her true self from Alice to the rest, she always does as she pleases. But now that all pretenses were shed, it was time to get revenge. It was never too late for a gentleman to avenge himself, after all.
All the way to the house, Alice was silent, but her mind wasn’t.
She had praised Briar before for how calculative she was, how shrewish she was for turning the tables against her the way she did. However, she never expected that she wasn’t a simpleton.
She was able to get her hands on something that she failed to notice. She had always thought that Briar, being a village girl who recently graduated high school at the age of twenty-five, was a pushover. A simpleton who was brain-dead and filled with the thoughts of Logan and the kids. But who would have guessed that her hands could reach far?
Maybe her brother wasn’t losing out. They were a perfect match. When she thought of how these videos and photos would have ruined her if she and Briar hadn’t reconciled, her back was drenched in a cold sweat.
Briar made her realize something. She was the kind of person who would drag a person down with her if things went sour. She did that when she threw herself at the fountain. She couldn’t even explain herself and all the blame was put on her head.
Such a person who was cruel to herself. What would stop her from going crazy and destroying those who were in her path?
This kind of revelation wasn’t something that she could tell her brother or parents. She was afraid that by revealing such things, Briar would have her head. Besides, why provoke someone who means no harm and just wants to be part of the family?
As long as she minds her own business, Briar won’t use these tricks on her. So, there was nothing much to worry about.
What she needed to do was find a ruthless way to deal with her fiancé. And if she can’t come up with something good, her sister-in-law would be the person to go to.
She didn’t believe that the other didn’t have many tricks up her sleeve.
