Chapter 79: Chapter 79: UNTITLED
After dropping Lyra and Cade, Briar didn’t have anything to do. With her hair slowly growing back, she was forced to wear a wig. She didn’t want to roam around in such a state.
So, she planned to return home and just relax without disturbance from the father or the children.
At the same time, she needed to check the herbs. It’s been a while since she prepared a medicinal meal as well.
However, as the car was on its way back to the mansion, she received a call.
Briar looked at the phone with a frown on her face.
’Why is she calling?’ that’s what she was thinking as she looked at the caller ID belonging to someone who had always caused her more trouble than anything good.
She didn’t want to pick up, to be honest, but considering how the other was calling her at such a time and with how things were, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea.
But when she recalled how she acted shamelessly and beyond that evening, she hesitated once again.
Unfortunately, the caller was very persistent, and it made ignoring the call impossible.
In the end, she resigned herself to answering the phone, and her tone was a bit icy, "Why are you calling?" and she didn’t bother to hide her attitude towards the other.
There was a momentary silence on the other side before an answer was given. [Briar .... You ... is it possible for us to meet?]
Briar scoffed when she heard that. She couldn’t help but roll her eyes as she mockingly replied, "Why do you want us to meet? Do you want to accuse me of a new crime again? I am not in the mood to try to explain myself."
[It’s not about that. I want to make peace. Can we meet? I will explain everything to you. Please!]
Briar’s eyes widened in shock when she heard that. She couldn’t help but remove the phone from her ear and inspect the screen to make sure that she was still talking to the same person.
Seeing that the name was still the same, a mysterious glint flashed through her eyes as she thought of something. Suddenly, her lips curled upward as if she had made sense of something.
’Since you have come to me, then I can only obediently make myself available. Why make things difficult?’
"Fine. Where do you want to meet?" in a reluctant tone, she asked.
Briar listened to the response with furrowed brows before hanging up.
Seeing the call that had ended, she let out a dejected sigh and felt a headache coming. Nonetheless, since she had agreed to the meeting, she didn’t have a choice but to comply.
Without further ado, she pressed a button on the car door, and a male voice sounded, "Madam, do you want something?" it was the driver who was hidden from her by the screen divider.
"Um. Please take me to the Meyer Hotel. I won’t be going back to the mansion," she instructed softly.
"Okay, madam. I will inform you when I arrive."
Briar closed her eyes once the call was done and started thinking over time.
Until now, due to how busy she was and surrounded by the kids, she didn’t manage to think about certain things in detail.
Thanks to that shock therapy treatment, she was able to discern the secrets that got exposed and, in return; she added a few more to blacken Selena. It was payback for what she did to her those many years ago.
While she might know what the Meyers now know about the whole situation, facing the person she was about to meet was quite troublesome.
Because she showed the real side of herself when facing that person, it was as if she would be baring herself naked when they met.
She didn’t know how to face the other.
Briar was troubled all the way to the hotel, and when she arrived, she alighted the car with a soft and polite smile on her face.
Entering the lobby, Briar held her small bag, which contained her phone and bank cards just in case she wanted something.
"Ms. Briar," when she entered, an unfamiliar woman called out to her, forcing her to look towards the direction.
When she saw the other, she couldn’t help but wonder who this person was, but when the other approached her respectfully, she suddenly had an idea.
Once she was closer, she said to her, "Madam, I am President Alice’s assistant. She told me to bring you to her office as soon as you arrive," affirming her guess.
Briar smiled at the assistant, her eyes sparkling as she felt very happy at being called a madam away from home.
Anyone who calls her respectfully like that was added to her favorite list.
"Thank you for coming to pick me up. I hope that I didn’t inconvenience you," she said gratefully, taking the assistant by surprise.
’I was nervous for no reason. She is a good woman. Very humble and doesn’t put on airs,’ the assistant thought, her impression of the madam improving.
She was quite surprised when she heard that the madam, Logan’s wife, was coming. Although her identity hadn’t been made public and no one knew who she was at the moment, it still made people excited and nervous when facing her.
Seeing her in person and then picturing Logan next to her, the assistant suddenly started feeling sorry for the madam. It was indeed the case of a wolf and a sheep.
Such a kind person, to be matched with such a ruthless man. Would she even survive?
She hurriedly shook those thoughts away from her mind, seeing where they were going, and humbly replied to the other, "I am just doing my job. Please come this way," not forgetting to show as much respect as she could.
Briar didn’t say a thing but acknowledged with a nod before following the assistant to the elevator.
While they headed to the elevator, their interaction didn’t go unnoticed.
A lot of employees plus guests couldn’t help but wonder who Briar was and someone in the mix who had seen Briar several times couldn’t help but sourly provide information. "What’s there to envy? If I am not mistaken, that Master Logan’s nanny!" disdain laced in her tone, it made those hearing not put Briar in their eyes at all.
After all, a nanny was just a staff who could be fired at any second. If Briar was on par with someone like Anna, then she would be a threat.
The sour staff, seeing those who were curious, no longer revering Briar. A smug smile appeared on her face as she mumbled to herself in a sinister tone, "Do you think that you can climb high now that Anna is gone? Tche, just wait. Your fall from grace is coming soon!"
