Chapter 78: HEART-TO-HEART TALK 4

Chapter 78: Chapter 78: HEART-TO-HEART TALK 4

Briar didn’t urge the kids to respond but continued to pat Tiana. After all, she couldn’t have the kids crying when they arrived at her school. That would earn her some unfavorable glares from the teachers.

The kids didn’t say anything even after a while and neither did Briar.

They soon arrived at Tiana’s school and she wiped the little girl’s face with a smile on her face.

"I am sorry for making you cry. Will my dear forgive me?" she asked in a soft tone, looking at the other affectionately.

Tiana shyly nodded, as she was putty in her second mother’s arms, letting her do whatever she wanted.

She was the one in the wrong. Just because she was playful didn’t mean that she didn’t think well.

She might not be as clever as her eldest siblings, but that didn’t make her less intelligent. From all the talk, she understood some clues and among them; she was in the wrong.

She accepted that chiding. After all, she had become a bit too unrestraint lately. Even her siblings were complaining as well.

She just didn’t expect that second mother who had last chided her when she was like five years old to do so in front of her siblings. It made her tear up.

Seeing the girl accepting the apology, Briar showered the girl with kisses, making the other burst into a giggling fit.

Seeing her like that, a smile blossomed on Briar’s face and relief washed over her. She vowed to not make the kids teary or cry ever again.

With Tiana’s feathers ruffled, she instructed the oldest to stay put in the car before she took Tiana to the gate.

"Goodbye, second mother!" Tiana bid her farewell as she entered the gates.

Briar smiled at the little girl and waved her hands at her as well, ignoring the adults who were taken aback by the title of second mother.

Seeing the girl leaving, Briar’s heart settled, and she returned to the waiting car.

When she boarded, the car resumed its journey, expecting the two to remain quiet. Surprise suddenly caught her when Cade started speaking.

"Second mother, we are very sorry. For doubting you, and overthinking much when we first learnt of your marriage with father.

We agree with what you were saying. For a moment there, we thought that you wanted to replace our mother, and it made us feel anxious. For seeing you as that kind of person, we are sorry," he apologized sincerely as he looked at Briar, without avoiding eye contact.

Briar didn’t expect such an attack after returning to the car. Since Cade was thirteen and Lyra was sixteen. They were young adults and couldn’t be forced. They have their own thoughts.

In fact, she was nervous when she took Tiana to school. Because she was overwhelmed with guilt and sorry for her selfish acts and just wanted to pour everything out while addressing an issue that might become a huge problem if left unsaid, she forgot that these two might not react the way she expected.

In fact, she might suffer if their thoughts go otherwise.

So, to hear Cade, heir to the Meyer empire, apologizing, she was stunned and didn’t know what to say. However, the boy was just starting.

"We don’t blame you for what happened. You must have been too pressured and didn’t know who to talk to about the matter, which led you to do what you did. We don’t deny the fact that what we saw that night affected us a lot. It’s something that we don’t want to see again. So, thank you for apologizing and making a promise.

You are someone who always keeps your promises, so we trust that something like that would never happen again," he said, his tone solemn. And for a moment, Briar felt like she was looking at Logan.

Cade was an exact copy of Logan after all when it comes to appearance. She just didn’t expect that when serious, his aura would become the same as well.

Briar nodded as she accepted this. She wasn’t an idiot. That kind of trick only works once. Besides, why would she play with her life again? What if she doesn’t get lucky?

"There are a lot of speculations regarding stepmothers out there and you said it all. It’s indeed difficult to become one and to be raised by one. However, you are someone who raised us. We believe in you and we hope that this trust we have in you won’t be wasted. Please don’t let us down!" Cade implored, as he looked at Briar with a serious gaze.

When she heard that, a smile unconsciously blossomed on her face. Being trusted wasn’t something that gets easily done or achieved.

It takes time to make someone trust you. Hearing the kids saying this to her, it was like them accepting her to be their mother in earnest. And it made her happy and glad that all the risks taken by blabbering too much were worth it.

Seeing that she was getting touched, Lyra nudged at her younger brother and at the same time spoke before he could say anything, adding to what had been said already, "We don’t know what the future would be like. But for now, let us enjoy it as it is. We will take care of ourselves and always remember your teachings. We will not let you or the family down."

Briar’s words still rang in her ears. They might think that they are cool by being rebellious, but at the end of the day, who will suffer?

It would be them.

If their father has more children with Briar when they aren’t good. Won’t they be sending all the good things to the half-siblings?

Of course, it wasn’t like she was hating the kids who hadn’t even come to the world yet. It’s just that when there are kids, a mother tends to favor her own first.

However, she quickly brushed that notion aside, especially when she thought of her biological mother. Maybe things might be different with their former nanny. After all, wasn’t she better than their mother from the start?

Briar and the two continued with their heart-to-heart talk until they arrived at the school.

With everything offloaded off their chest, the three were quite harmonious. It was as if that thin barrier separating them had been cleared.

Briar had taken this moment to make her position clear. She didn’t want the kids to be wary of her when she didn’t even have other thoughts. If they carry any thoughts, it would affect them greatly and if she somehow manages to benefit greatly due to their misfortune despite having clear thoughts, her name would be tarnished.

She didn’t want that. That was why she took such a risk.

At the same time, the kids after Briar sent Tiana to the school barely talked to each other and came to an agreement.

Giving their second mother a chance without prejudice. Whatever happens in the future will happen? And if things go awry, didn’t she say that they need to report when there is time?

If she was just casually speaking, she had unknowingly made a trap for herself. Nonetheless, they still sincerely hoped that it wouldn’t be the case.

After all, they really liked her a lot. No other woman would be perfect to act as their mother or their father’s wife.
