Chapter 64: Chapter 64: GETTING DISCHARGED

The next day, Briar’s cheeks hurt from all the smiling as she watched the kids surrounding her and yapping nonstop.

"Second Mother, are you really feeling well?"

"Does that mean that we will be going home with you today?"

"Hehe, this is good!"

To think that the kids’ love for her had magnified in the short period she was unconscious, Briar found herself becoming more determined and convinced that she hadn’t done anything wrong.

After all, the recognition from the family as well as the kids was of the most importance.

What would be the point of doing all that when, in the end, the kids wouldn’t even sincerely like her?

Although the means taken weren’t prudent, what mattered in life were the results.

"Um, we will be going home together. Let’s just wait for your father to finish the discharging process," with a weak smile on her face she told the kids.

Upon hearing that, Tiana cheered happily as she pulled gently Briar’s hand, saying, "Second mother. I really missed you!"

Briar grinned, though she still looked weak, and answered, "I missed you as well. You weren’t causing any trouble at home, right?" narrowing her eyes as she looked at the naughtiest of them all.

Tiana ducked her head as she stuck her tongue while looking away. Her reaction was all that Briar needed to know what the little girl had been up to.

Lyra and Cade, seeing their baby sister like that, both smiled wryly as they thought of what all of them were up to.

If it was before, they might have fanned the flames and let Tiana bear the brunt, but this time, they pretended to be dead as well and sincerely hoped that Tiana wouldn’t shoot off her mouth and say things that didn’t make sense.

Thankfully, their second mother didn’t pursue the matter as before she could say anything. The door to the ward opened.

"Dad!" Tiana called to her father excitedly.

For the first time in a while, she found his presence quite useful.

Logan, who had just finished dealing with the discharging procedure, eyed Tiana with suspicion. What kind of games was this little one playing again?

With how much she loved Briar, there would be no way that she would be so glad to see him. Could it be that she did something?

He pondered as he walked towards the bed with a smile on his face.

"What did you do?" he asked as he raised his brows, a playful smile on his face.

Tiana, seeing her father not falling for it, sulked as she harumphed before shaking her second mother’s hand pitifully.

Briar, seeing the whole thing, chuckled faintly, "Hehe ..... cough ... cough ...." however, she ended up coughing heavily, which startled everyone in the room.

"Second mother, are you okay?"

"Briar, are you fine?"

The room was filled with exclaims of worry.

At this moment, Briar just wanted to bury herself six feet down. She had unintentionally choked, which resulted in all this trouble.

However, seeing that everyone was worried, she felt touched once again. Being sick once in a while didn’t seem to be a bad idea, after all.

Logan reached for Briar and started rubbing her back softly. It was quite comforting and very helpful to Briar.

"Cough ... ahem ... I am fine now. Thank you," she said gratefully, her eyes red. For a moment there, she nearly suffered.

Logan heaved with relief seeing her like that but couldn’t help but say to her, "Remember that you are covering. Don’t exert your body too much," reminding her to be careful.

Her love for these kids was too much. They would be the end of her.

Getting scolded in a polite manner, Briar felt ashamed. She hung her head low like a child who was getting scolded by the teacher.

Tiana, on the other side, didn’t make a fuss but lowered her head as well. If it wasn’t for her, then the second mother wouldn’t have been scolded by her father. She was partially at fault.

Logan, seeing the mother and daughter like that, lost all the energy to scold any more. If he continued, who knows what the oldest two would do?

As a result, he just took a deep breath and glared at his kids before saying to Briar, "Okay, we are ready now. Get dressed and let’s leave this place," his tone was very calm and coaxing.

This time around, Briar raised her head with an apologetic gaze and nodded in agreement with what he had said.

Knowing that it was time to go, the kids who were at fault and feeling sorry for their stepmother, decided to gently help her form the bed.

Logan left them like that. Although Briar could do everything on her own since the kids wanted to be of some use, what would be the point of stopping them?

Besides, it was good to see how eager they were to learn about caring for someone. In the future, this experience might be of use.

With the children’s enthusiasm and help, Briar managed to change into casual clothes. They were new and definitely something that she hadn’t bought before.

She recognized the brand, and it was the kind that even if someone put a gun to her head, she wouldn’t buy.

Either Logan bought the clothes or her mother-in-law, or perhaps her guilty sister-in-law. Regardless of who bought the clothes, she found them pretty comfortable and nice to wear.

Of course, she ignored the ugly patch on her head that would need some miracle to deal with. To think that they shaved part of her head and now her head looked so funny, Briar could only cry her grievances inwardly and be grateful that despite the funny appearances, the people who mattered to her didn’t look at her differently.

After changing the clothes, everything else was packed. So, what remained was leaving.

However, when she exited the bathroom, she found an electric wheelchair waiting for her.

She raised her head and looked at Logan, who was leaning against the wall with a smile on his face.

Was the wheelchair for her?

Wasn’t she walking just fine?

She couldn’t help but wonder.

However, her mind changed when she saw the eager Tiana walking toward her with a concerned expression not suitable for a girl her age saying, "Second mother, let’s go! You can’t expend too much energy. You need ample rest!"

Facing such a filial child, how could she think of other things?

As a result, Briar ended up in a wheelchair.

As for what those who would see her would think?

That was something that her husband would deal with. After all, knowing him well, there was no way he didn’t have some sneaky plan for all this facade.

After all, he was a calculative man.

And the very man after her own heart.

Since he wanted it, then she would give it to him without causing trouble.

The makings of a virtuous wife!
