Chapter 176: Chapter 176: GOING BACK HOME 3

Briar didn’t stop there; she purchased some blankets for temporary use, which she planned for her brother to bring back home once this short vacation was done.

It’s been ages since they lived in their village home.

Who knows when the blankets were last washed?

With everything purchased, the siblings stopped by a restaurant for a hot meal and that concluded their activities in the city.

Once they were done, Briar added fuel to the tank, bought some snacks and drove away from Ascot.

The drive from the city to the home village was quite there, but as long as they sped enough, they would indeed reach the village in time.

On the way home, the siblings were busy sharing about their lives during the period that they hadn’t seen each other.

"How is he treating you?"

"He is the best man I can ever ask for!" Briar’s eyes were shining as she talked about her husband.

Benjamin was relieved when he heard that, however, he couldn’t help but worry when he thought about the thing of the past, the Pandora’s Box that couldn’t be opened.

"Did he ..... did he find out anything? Are you safe? Will it leak?" since Briar was his sister, he asked directly, showing his concern without hiding.

Briar, who was driving, clenched the steering wheel tightly as her eyes narrowed, recalling about that matter.

She knew that Benjamin was very worried about that matter and so was she. She didn’t want him to worry but at the same time, she wanted him to know that she was handling everything. That way, if someone ever come in the future regarding that matter, he wouldn’t let anything slip.

She looked to the front without looking at him and responded, "he hasn’t found out anything yet but it’s just a matter of days!"

"What?" Benjamin exclaimed in shock, nearly jumping out of his seat, and she was startled. The car veered off for a moment before she got her bearings back.

She looked at Benjamin, whose eyes were filled with panic and suddenly felt warmth coursing through her body.

"Brother, you_"

"Briar, you ..... did you perhaps leak it?" he asked worriedly, his teeth gritted and fists clenched as he looked at her with unease.

Briar chuckled helplessly seeing his reaction and hurriedly explained, "how can I do something stupid like that? its ..." giving out all the details without hiding anything.

Benjamin was silent after hearing the gist of the story. He was busy digesting the whole thing and felt scared the more he made sense of what was happening.

"I just don’t understand why you are letting it get exposed!"

"It should come out! It’s more of hitting two birds with one stone. I will refute whatever happened back then with peace of mind and get rid of the greatest competitor I could have. I don’t want to lose him, brother. He is my world."

"But ... this is dangerous. If he doesn’t believe you, then wouldn’t you be doomed?"

Briar chuckled as her eyes darkened and said to her brother, "Brother, from day one, I have prepared for this moment. Besides, you told me back then that you dealt with that problem smoothly, right?" she reminded as she looked at her brother with a piercing gaze.

Benjamin hurriedly nodded, recalling that particular problem seriously. "It was perfect without any mistake!"

Briar grinned when she heard that and nodded. "Then everything is fine. Brother, you just need to pretend like you know nothing. I never did anything and you know nothing. Just remember that!"

Benjamin deflated as he listened to that, but he knew that it was the only way for the two of them to survive.

"Don’t worry. I know what to do. Just make sure to be safe."

"I have always played it safe. Besides, I am now a spiritualist, unless those people’s ancestors are stronger than mine, they won’t be able to expose me!" pride in her voice as she said that.

Benjamin sighed with relief when he heard that. He smiled, thinking to himself that Briar would indeed become powerful. Spiritualists were very powerful, and the most feared. They have the power to kill and heal. They were not meant to be provoked lest you end up buried six feet down.

The siblings talked about that matter all the way to the village and were both on the same page.

When they entered the village, it was already dark. The dogs were barking, and the chimneys were emitting smoke. Everyone was busy, but all inside.

With the arrival of a car at night, there were some who were curious and stood in their yards, but the siblings didn’t bother with them and just headed to the other side of the village where Mammy Adonai lived.

With the headlights on, Briar could see perfectly well where she was going. When she arrived at Mammy Adonai’s house, a smile appeared on her face as she spotted the old lady already waiting in the yard, wearing a white dress with her face and hands painted.

She looked like a ghost from a distance and her appearance looked very funny to her but to her brother. His legs were trembling.

"Brother, she doesn’t bite!" Briar teased as she parked the car on the other side of the yard, a smile on her face.

Benjamin rolled his eyes when he heard that and thought to himself, ’Just because she treated you like an ancestor while growing up. Who doesn’t fear her?’

There were scary people in the village, but none of them were scarier than Mammy Adonai. Maybe it was the way she dressed and all those markings on her body which tend to look scary whenever they were looked at.

Perhaps it was the fact that at her home, one would find all sorts of unexplainable things; animal skulls, blood and so forth.

Who could get used to that?

However, now that his sister was going to become the same person, he could only suppress that fear. After all, no matter what Briar was, she still remained the only relative he cared most about.

He couldn’t lose her, and she couldn’t lose him.
