Chapter 156: LYRA’S FRIENDS VISIT 2

Chapter 156: Chapter 156: LYRA’S FRIENDS VISIT 2

Inside Lyra’s room, the girls who had left their bags in the other rooms they had been given were all sitting on top of Lyra’s bed, talking animatedly.

"Girl, why didn’t you explain or elaborate that your mother was truly sick?" Eugene was the first to bring that matter to the surface.

Lyra rolled her eyes at Eugene, who only believes what she sees and none of what she hears.

"You ..... didn’t I say that when she fell sick?"

"But ..... I thought that she was just ill and not that ill!"

"Then what’s the difference?"

Eugene shook her head as melancholy filled her eyes.

"If hadn’t seen your second mother before, I would have thought that she was faking it. With how plainly dressed she is tonight; I would have thought that she was fooling around!" Eugene said righteously.

She had seen quite a lot of interesting things in society and as a lover of dramas and novels, she understood these stepmothers a lot.

That was why, despite how many good things she heard from Lyra, she wanted to see for herself. Only then would she be at ease.

She wanted to see how much Briar could pretend. But who would have thought that a sick person would welcome her?

Although she tried to hide it, something about her complexion screamed sick.

Lyra shook her head helplessly and said to Eugene, or rather her friends, "Girls, anyone can fake it but not her," recalling how real Briar had been from day one.

Of course, it was surprising to learn about her love for their father, but when she recalled the past and how her second mother acted whenever their father was around, it all fell into place.

If only she acted the right way other women always acted when they were around the men they liked, perhaps they would have caught onto it. But Briar was different. She kept her distance. The only time she was close to their father was probably when he returned from work and she welcomed him.

Of course, that had never been an issue since she started doing it even when their biological mother was still alive.

Every single night, the second mother would take their father’s briefcase and suit jacket. She would serve him warm food and when he was at home, she would bring coffee and other snacks. She had never acted inappropriately. She dressed conservatively and knew her place.

Even when they learnt that their father had married Briar, their nanny as the second mother, it was unbelievable, but it was even worse when they learnt about her love for their father. To think that she had been in love with him for over a decade, now that was something else.

She had a strange way of expressing her love, but definitely not fake.

"You are sure about that?"

"One thousand percent sure. Trust me," Lyra assured her friends before sharing what happened to Briar before she fell ill.

When the four heard the story, they were simply dumbfounded.

"Kyra, just how fragile is she?" Mercy, the other friend, asked, stunned by the revelation.

Eugene also chuckled, reluctant to believe that there were people like that.

Seeing them not believing her, Lyra revealed how at some point they made her cry, and it took a while to coax her.

"Eugene, you shouldn’t think ill of her, to be honest. She is just like a child in her heart. If there is anyone to be suspected, then it should be my father. He is an old cow eating young grass!" Lyra hatefully said as she recalled certain things that she couldn’t even answer.

How could that cold man who only cared about work get such a woman who loved him so much like that?

It was a waste of feelings, but what can be done?

At least Briar was better than any other woman out there. They would rather lock her in this cage than let her go.

The friends, hearing about the wonderful and funny things that had happened in the mansion, couldn’t help but laugh and started to ease in a bit.

Time quickly flew, and before they knew it, it was time for dinner.

Lyra received a call from the butler and she urged her friends to go downstairs.

"What have you cooked?’ Eugene asked curiously as she followed Lyra to take the stairs downstairs rather than the elevator.

Lyra’s eyes lit with a mysterious glint and playfully responded, "You will see it when you get there!" how could she spoil the surprise?

Thinking about that night’s dinner, a smile blossomed on her face.

’Second mother surely doesn’t disappoint!’ she thought excitedly, looking forward to how the girls would have endless things to chat about the topic in the future.

The four friends, unaware of what Lyra was planning for them, changed the topic and chatted merrily until they were in the dining room.

"Tiana, if you don’t sit down, I swear that I will confiscate your next week’s allowance!"

When they got there, Briar’s threat welcomed them and that got the four girls very curious about how Briar treated her stepchildren.

On the other hand, when Lyra heard that, her eyes went straight to the mother and daughter, curious about what kind of games the little one had played again.

Cade was already seated and watching the drama with glee.

"Mother!" Tiana exclaimed pitifully, pouting her lips as she sulkily pulled the chair next to Briar. "How could you be so .... Don’t you feel pity for me?"

The girls watched this drama with open mouths, wowed by how shameless Tiana could be at times. They couldn’t help but look at Briar, curious about her response, and Lyra was looking forward to this drama as well.

Briar rolled her eyes at Tiana, not giving her any face before making another threat, "Perhaps this old lady should just stay home for a very long time! After all, I can’t even make my youngest listen to me right now!" her face expressionless and the little girl’s eyes widen in panic.
