Chapter 155: LYRA’S FRIENDS VISIT
Chapter 155: Chapter 155: LYRA’S FRIENDS VISIT
It’s been several days since the night when Briar had a confrontation with Raine and came out on top.
Ever since that night, she had been low and feeling a bit ill, so she was home resting and none of the Meyer family members made her life difficult.
What she liked about life in this period was how her relationship with her mother-in-law improved further. Perhaps afraid of what she might recall if she forced herself too much, the matriarch visited her at home and sat down with her.
Mother and daughter-in-law had a heart-to-heart talk, talked about life, and everything went well.
She didn’t bring up anything related to any unsettling matters before but simply talked about aspirations and other things.
In the same period, Briar met with Alice and there was something fishy about her sister-in-law she just couldn’t point out.
However, with Irene bringing up the matter of Moses being alive and all that, she forgot about the matter and didn’t ask Irene to look into what Alice had been doing lately.
With so much happening in those days, the weekend finally arrived, and it was the moment that she had been waiting for a while now.
But before getting to that, on a Friday night, Briar who had been spending most of her time indoors found herself standing at the front of the mansion with the kids in tow, a smile on her face as she looked at the cars which had arrived to drop Lyra’s friends for the weekend.
Lyra had invited her friends to stay at the mansion for the weekend. A matter that she had forgotten until Lyra reminded her that morning.
These girls had stayed at the mansion before, but things were different back then. She was just the nanny and her job was to make sure that they were taken care of, eat their food on time and nothing else.
But now, as the mother, she had to do more than that and host the kids on her children’s behalf even though these kids had other thoughts.
Of course, as a sick person, she wasn’t going to torture herself that much. Welcome the kids, smile at them, serve them dinner prepared by the chefs and excuse herself to get some rest. She was someone on medication.
Didn’t they come at the right time?
Without feeling as much pressure as before, she smiled generously, dressed in a plain dress which didn’t scream overbearing as she watched the girls alighting from the cars.
"You are here!" Lyra happily exclaimed as she trotted towards her friends.
Briar and Cade remained in place since the kids weren’t their friends. Besides, it wasn’t like they weren’t coming over.
Eugene beamed as she carried a bag over her shoulder. "I can’t miss this for anything in the world!" her words sounding as mysterious as ever.
Lyra ignored Eugene’s meaning and welcomed her other friends.
There were four of them and with Lyra included, they became five.
The five girls chatted happily as they made their way to where Briar and Cade were waiting for them.
Once they were closer, Eugene and the other three girls respectfully greeted Briar, like well-mannered kids, "Hello, auntie!" their smiles were perfect as if they liked her a lot.
Briar smiled in return, her eyes squinting in kindness and responded, "Hello girls! Welcome to our humble abode. I hope that you will enjoy this weekend!" her tone was very humble without any air of seniority.
The girls beamed upon hearing that.
"Thank you, auntie. We will definitely enjoy the weekend."
"I look forward to seeing that as well!" Briar said to them before looking at Lyra and said, "Lyra, bring your friends inside and settle them. Dinner will be served in an hour. Be ready before then!"
Lyra nodded with a smile before looking at her friends and said urgingly, "Let’s go inside!"
The girls smiled in return before looking at Briar and said, ’Auntie, we are going inside!"
"Um, see you later!"
After that, Briar and Cade watched as the five girls entered the mansion, chatting happily.
Cade nudged at Briar and she looked at him, puzzled as to what he was up to.
However, what he said surprised her a bit, "Second Mother, can I bring my friends for the weekend in the future as well?"
Briar looked at the future master of the Meyer family and suddenly found him cute and pleasing to the eyes.
Briar raised her hand and ruffled Cade’s hair with a teasing smile, amusement in her eyes as she saw how Cade was rolling his eyes, not wanting to be ruffled like that.
"This is your home; you can bring whoever you want. Remember that!"
Cade beamed upon hearing that and nodded, obviously loving what Briar had just said.
"If I am not around, then you tell your father and if I am here, just tell me. I will organize that everything is fine when they come, alight?"
Cade nodded, pleased with Briar’s words.
"I will have them come over when you are around!" he said, beamingly.
Letting his friends come when his father was there, and his second mother was not around. What would be the point?
His father was never around. If it wasn’t for the second mother being at home and now not feeling well, he was certain that his father wouldn’t give a damn or be concerned.
It would be better to wait until the second mother returns from her home village before inviting his friends.
Briar pinched the young boy’s cheek and teasingly said, "Then I will accept this honor when I return, right?"
Cade smiled helplessly as he let his second mother pinch him playfully like that. As long as she was happy. It wasn’t like that was the first time that she was doing it.
After the two played outside, they finally followed the girls inside, though by the time they entered the living room, the girls were nowhere to be seen.
Cade excused himself, leaving Briar to her devices.
As the host, she needed to make sure that the food would be ready before the time she set arrived.
As for Logan, he wasn’t returning home early, so there was no need to wait for him.
As long as he returned to her before midnight, Briar didn’t mind what he was up to or doing.
Other men could be suspected, but not Logan.
If he cheated on her, it would be with his work or friends and no women.
That man’s self-discipline was on point, and it made her love him more.
Besides, when a person starts having unnecessary thoughts, they tend to manifest in reality.
She wasn’t going to have a crow mouth and curse herself.
Having a pure mind, she went to the kitchen, where her voice could be heard now and then.
