Chapter 152: SELECTIVE MEMORY LOSS
Chapter 152: Chapter 152: SELECTIVE MEMORY LOSS
Wellington was at a loss for words as he listened to Logan.
He never thought that he would hear someone very close to him talking about such an unbelievable incident.
They didn’t even do anything to her, and yet her memory was gone. However, listening to Logan as he narrated, he had a slight idea of what was happening. He couldn’t help but feel sorry for Briar.
Why was her life so unfortunate like that?
"I think I might know what’s wrong with her," Wellington, after analyzing certain clues, said to Logan as he tapped the desk with a solemn expression on his face.
When Logan heard that, he looked anticipatingly at Wellington, eager to understand what was wrong with Briar this time.
"Tell me and don’t keep me in suspense!" he urged.
Wellington smiled wryly upon seeing that and couldn’t help but wonder how Logan would react once he learnt of what might be wrong with Briar this time.
He took a deep breath, mustering all the courage he could have and broke the news, "She should be having a selective memory loss!"
"What?" Logan was dumbfounded when he heard that, his brows furrowed and eyes flashed with a confused glint.
Wellington, seeing that, explained further, "Her brain literally erased that particular memory from her mind. It usually happens when a person is hurt and doesn’t want to recall such memories. So, they forget whatever makes them feel pain. In Briar’s case, the gathering itself became such a painful memory. So, she forgot about it."
Logan slumped in the chair as his fist clenched, his mind gearing wildly. "Is that why she ..... so, whenever she tries to recall the memory, would she feel pain?"
Wellington nodded, a pitiful expression on his face as he lamented how tough Briar’s life was. When would she start enjoying her married life?
"Yep. So, unless she wants to recall those memories, don’t force her. If you do, you might end up opening more doors, which I know that none of us want to see happening," he answered seriously, his tone with a hint of warning.
No matter how much Logan loves Briar, forgetting that the brain of that woman upon provoked might recall deadly secrets, that would be deadly.
If she wasn’t important, she would have been dealt with already. Unfortunately, she was important. So, he could only remind.
When Logan heard that, he looked at Wellington with a dark gaze, but the other took it on pretty well without wavering.
There were sparks flying between the two and the tension was heavy, but none of the two seemed to be willing to give in.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
Thankfully, the office’s telephone rang, breaking apart that awkward atmosphere.
Logan, seeing that Wellington was about to get busy, rose to his feet as Wellington was still looking at him and said to him, "Help me find a way to pass the news to the others. Whenever they see her, let them not talk about yesterday, lest it brings back memories," and without waiting for Wellington to respond, he left the office without turning back.
Wellington shook his head with a helpless smile on his face, thinking to himself how possessive Logan was. He was like a dog protecting its owner. It was scary.
However, he didn’t regret what he did. As for what Logan would be thinking, that was his problem. He was only looking out for him and would always do. Wasn’t that what the both of them had been doing since day one?
****
Logan left Wellington’s office with a dark expression, his words on repeat reminding him of the ticking bomb that was inside Briar’s head.
What was he implying?
He didn’t even want to go any further lest he get angrier than he was.
"Mr. Meyer!"
On his way out, he heard someone calling his name, and it was a female. Wondering who that woman was, he turned his head in the direction the voice was coming from and when he saw the person calling him, he involuntarily let go of his anger.
"Doctor Bertha!" he returned the greeting, his tone respectful but not flattering as he came to a halt.
Doctor Bertha walked with a smile towards him and once she was several steps in front of him said, "It’s good that I just saw you. I couldn’t get through to your wife, and she promised to go with me to the banquet this weekend. When you go home, please remind her for me!" her hands clasped together.
Logan couldn’t help but smile when he heard that. Looking at how playful this stern woman was, he was reminded of Briar. No wonder why they clicked. Their personalities, at times, looked similar.
"Sure, I will pass on the message and please do take care of her this weekend!"
Bertha grinned as she looked at Logan and responded, "I will surely do so. Don’t worry!" promising to keep that troublemaker in place.
Logan and Bertha spoke for a short while before Logan excused himself. Bertha didn’t see him off but went her way after passing the message she wanted.
On her way to her office, a few nurses tagged along and asked curiously, "Doctor, do you know Mr. Meyer?"
Bertha frowned upon hearing that but shook her head, "Not really, but I am close to his wife!" a smile involuntarily plastering on her face, covering the frown.
When the nurses heard that, they all had mixed emotions in their eyes, and Bertha rolled her eyes before increasing her pace.
If it weren’t for these lustful women eyeing her friend’s man, she wouldn’t bother chatting with Logan at all. Unless Briar was hospitalized, and in a comma, she would never ignore their calls or messages. So how could it be possible for Briar to not answer her?
However, for the sake of spreading the gospel and letting everyone know that the man was taken, she couldn’t help but approach Logan.
As for those lustful individuals, they better rein their thoughts lest she and the other make a move. From what the troublemaker told them earlier a few hours ago, she seemed to have caused trouble for Raine. No wonder why Logan was at the hospital.
Thinking about that matter, Bertha excitedly fished her phone from her pocket and hurriedly made a call.
How could she not let Briar know of such interesting news?
