Contractually Yours: The Billionaire's Unlikely Bride -
Chapter 107: PANDORA’S BOX
Chapter 107: Chapter 107: PANDORA’S BOX
Rather than feeling sad and inferior simply because other women out there could sit in an office with men and discuss face to face about business matters and be received, that didn’t make people who didn’t take that path useless.
She used to be a nanny, but didn’t she do a good job?
She raised three children and took care of the love of her life so that he didn’t get sick but grew healthily. Wasn’t that something great?
Even a person who works tirelessly in an office still needs to be healthy at the end of the day to enjoy the fruits of the harvest.
Besides, why feel inferior when he still wants and desires her like this?
With that revelation, she became relaxed and waited for Logan to finish talking to the secretary. Thankfully, the call didn’t last for a long time however, Logan didn’t look good at all. In other words, her happy moment was squashed, and there wouldn’t be any indulging again.
She found it a pity; however, work prevails. Without him working hard for the family, how could she sleep peacefully?
At the end of the day, the fact that money was important as well, apart from love, was a reality.
So, when he looked at her apologetically and said to her, "Dear, I am afraid that I might have to meet with some managers. Something urgent happened!"
When she heard that, an understanding smile appeared on her face and she replied virtuously to him, "It’s fine. You can continue with your work. I will wait for you at home."
A smile appeared on his face when she said that.
"Um. I will see you at home," he repeated her words, making her blush shyly.
Knowing that Logan was about to get serious, Briar didn’t dare linger for a long time in the office. Her food bag had already been packed, so she stood on her feet and rushed to the restroom where she checked her make-up. Luckily, she had checked herself otherwise, she might have lost face.
Briar retouched her make-up and made sure that everything was in place before returning to the office.
When she got there, Logan was putting on his suit jacket, ready to go out.
The couple moments later left together the office and before they went their separate ways, Briar couldn’t help herself but say to him, "Hubby! I have never cheated and won’t dare do something like that to you!"
As for whether he would understand what she was saying, that was another matter.
Of course, Logan understood what she was saying, and he felt warmth coursing through his body.
Although he trusted her, having her explain and clear any misunderstandings, though she didn’t do it cryptically, he still felt touched.
So, when he arrived in the conference room, he didn’t carry that scary aura. The subordinates, seeing him like that, felt at ease and saw the light.
Meanwhile, Briar left the office with a smile on her face. She had always been a friendly person, and those who knew her at work were very fond of her.
The few who knew about her madam identity found her more pleasing. Despite the upgrade, she still continued to carry herself humbly. How could they not like her?
After leaving the office, Briar left in the limo she had taken. Since she planned to pick up the kids, then the limo was a must.
It was already past two, with roughly two hours or so before Tiana finished her studies for the day.
She didn’t have anywhere to go in such a short time, so she simply let the chauffeur take her to the nearby park, closer to Tiana’s school.
When they got there, it was almost around 3 pm and Briar decided to take a walk while searching for any interesting things to buy.
As she walked around, cooling her head from the intimacy of earlier, her phone started ringing.
She took it out of her bag and when she saw the caller ID, a smile blossomed on her face. She tapped on the earbud and answered the call while she returned the phone back into the bag.
"Hello, brother!" she answered happily, her eyes squinting.
It’s been a while since she last talked with Benjamin and hearing his voice, she couldn’t help but be happy.
[Um, are you doing well?] his tone was laced with concern and anticipation.
When she heard that, a smile blossomed on her face as she responded, "Um. Everything is well. In fact, it’s better!" recalling how things had gotten better after the accident.
Benjamin’s sigh of relief sounded throughout the speaker, making Briar feel emotional. She could guess what her brother was thinking. She felt touched when she thought about that.
[That’s good. Remember, if things aren’t good, you still have me here. I might not have much, but I will do my best to make you live well!]
Briar’s eyes pooled with tears when her brother said that. Her brother was struggling already and hearing him making such a promise, she couldn’t help but feel loved. At least in that family, there was still someone who loved her despite all the mistakes and crimes she committed in the past.
"Don’t worry, brother. I am doing fine. My husband and children love me so much. So, you won’t hear me complaining!" not wanting her brother to think that she wasn’t living well, she hurriedly defended her family.
Benjamin chuckled lightly when he heard her defending them like that.
[Okay, since you are saying that, then I will believe you.]
Briar sighed with relief when she heard that.
"Hehe, that’s good. So, brother, how is your health? Is everything fine?"
[Couldn’t be any better. I can now walk on my own. In a matter of time, I should be starting to work!]
Briar was surprised when she heard the working part and not the walking part. She had paid the hospital and caregiver a lot of money. Wouldn’t it be weird if he didn’t get better?
"That’s good, brother, but aren’t you starting to work a bit too early? Have you already found a job?"
[Don’t worry about that. Your brother has connections. I found something to do.]
Upon hearing that, Briar didn’t ask anything again. Men have pride. If she continues to ask unnecessary questions, wouldn’t that make her brother upset and perhaps look unworthy?
"I am happy for you," she said sincerely from her heart.
[Hehe, I knew that you would be happy for me.]
Her eyes squinted, and a smile blossomed on her face.
"I will always support you, no matter what. Thank goodness you called. I have some news for you!" she said excitedly, recalling another important thing that she hadn’t yet shared with anyone except Mammy Adonai.
[Oh~ tell me, what is it? Could it be I will be an uncle soon?] Benjamin excitedly asked, his tone filled with anticipation.
When she heard that, a sad smile appeared on her face before she forced a smile on her face, answering, "Hehe, brother. Don’t talk like that. We just got married. How could we rush to have babies?"
[Oh! I guess I can still wait. So, what is it? This brother of yours happens to have some good news for you as well!]
Briar’s eyes lit up when she heard that. However, she didn’t ask Benjamin first since she wanted to share her piece of good news before listening to her brother’s.
"Brother, um .... next month, umm, I will be going to the village to get a ceremony done!" she hesitatingly said, not knowing how to breach the matter once she had started.
[Um! Ceremony? Which ceremony are you having again? I thought you already did the marriage initiation ceremony!] Benjamin sounded confused, which was very normal.
There were a few ceremonies that women from their village went through. The first was the marriage initiation ceremony, which showed that a girl had grown up and had become a woman.
The second would happen when she gives birth, and the child is one month old. Of course, there were certain ceremonies like weddings, but in Briar’s case, Benjamin didn’t think that there would be a wedding which would follow their customs. There would be no way that rich husband of hers would do something like that.
So, what kind of ceremony was she trying to have and in November, on top of that?
[Briar, you ..... it can’t be that ..... it’s not .....] Benjamin’s voice rang again since Briar wasn’t responding and when she heard her brother having difficulties talking about that matter, a grim expression appeared on her face as a glint of iciness flashed across her eyes.
"Brother, it’s not about that matter, but since you have raised the point. Back then, it was just the two of us, right?" she asked nervously, trying to recall matters of that day.
There was some silence on the other side for a moment before a response came. [Briar, could there be an issue concerning that matter? Did it get exposed?]
"No, it hasn’t. Just that I have an inkling that it might come up one day. So, I want to know in advance if there is anything that happened back then that I don’t know!"
[Phew .... You nearly scared me there. It was just the two of us and no one saw us. However, if there is anything that we need to be wary of since you have such an inkling, then there is one!]
That response came as a huge blow to her as soon as she heard it. She stopped in her tracks, her body trembling at the thought of having a third party knowing such a matter.
"Brother .... You tell me. What happened?" she asked anxiously, her voice shaking.
