Chapter 346: Chapter 346: The Second Meeting with Father-in-Law (4)
As a mother planning for her child, one tends to be a little more cautious and careful.
Gu Nuan nodded, "Mom, don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on things myself."
After the incident with Wa Zicong, she had already abandoned any unrealistic fantasies. Besides, even if their feelings for each other were genuine, they would have to carefully plan for their future life together.
Gu’s mother smiled across at her, looking quite satisfied with her words, as if she had no worries about them at all.
Gu Nuan knew that her mother was prepared; if anything happened to them, they could return to the Gu family, which would definitely welcome them with open arms.
"Alright. You two carry on. Contact me if anything comes up," Gu’s mother instructed.
"Are you going to stay here for a long time, Mom?" Gu Nuan asked.
"Impossible," her mother laughed. "I’m only staying a few nights at your aunt’s place; her son and daughter hardly ever come home."
Qiu Jiaxuan and Qiu Jiali despised the cramped rental, so they both stayed with friends.
Aunt Qiu was actually quite worried, mainly because her daughter was still young.
Gu’s mother understood a fellow mother’s concern, and now that she had seen her daughter and knew someone would take care of her, she decided to leave.
Gu Nuan felt truly relieved upon hearing this, as if her mother hadn’t noticed Ou Yanan’s presence.
After hanging up the phone, Gu’s mother held her mobile, furrowing her brows.
Aunt Qiu walked onto the balcony and, seeing her stand motionless as if she was about to die, was taken aback and asked, "What’s wrong? Did Nuannuan say something to you?"
"No," Gu’s mother shook her head, her spirits lifting as she regained her usual expression.
Aunt Qiu was puzzled. As soon as Gu’s mother walked away, she hurriedly called her own daughter Jiali.
After several attempts, Jiali didn’t answer the phone, which made her anxious. In truth, her urgency stemmed from not finding her daughter after school today. Instead, she had heard from Jiali’s classmates that Jiali had recently become infatuated with a man and ran to where the man was every day.
What man?
Aunt Qiu was scared. She planned to cultivate Jiali to marry a wealthy man in the big city, but Jiali was just a high school student, still young and lacking discernment. If by bad luck she fell into someone’s trap and was defiled, they’d be beyond consolation.
She had no choice but to make another call, this time to the classmate who had shared the news that afternoon.
"Auntie, the man that Jiali is infatuated with? It seems she’s not the only one—several girls from our school, and others, apparently rich girls, are all smitten," said the classmate.
"Who is he?"
"He’s said to be a poor guy."
Aunt Qiu’s heart sank. She wished she could grow wings and fly back to drag her daughter home by the ears.
Falling for a poor guy, the five million she had invested in her daughter might as well be thrown to the winds.
"Where is he?!" Aunt Qiu asked furiously.
"At the hospital," the other party explained, "The last time at our school, a guy playing basketball suddenly fainted. The young doctor came in an ambulance and saved him. He mesmerized many female students on the spot. Most of them watch comics, TV dramas, and idol dramas and think he looks like the male lead from TV."
Aunt Qiu cursed idol dramas for being deadly and asked for the name of the hospital, planning to storm over there.
"Mingxin, a third-level hospital. Jiali and the others went to see him but couldn’t get in; they have to register. Apparently, he’s on duty at the emergency room tonight, and they plan to pretend to be sick and go to the emergency room."
