Chapter 31: Chapter 31 Second Confrontation (2)
His fair hand was tucked in his trouser pocket while the other held a white coffee cup.
In that pose, compared to yesterday’s sunglasses-wearing swagger, he seemed to add a hint of a business elite’s aura.
Gu Nuan’s brows furrowed slightly, clearly not taking a favorable first impression of this man, these people. Perhaps it was because they were rivals, or perhaps these people didn’t make a good first impression on her to begin with.
"Please, Miss Gu," Li Sitong gestured to her with marked politeness.
Gu Nuan distinctly felt a stark difference in the way she was treated and looked at compared to yesterday. Yesterday, these people undoubtedly didn’t take her seriously, but today, things had completely changed.
It wasn’t necessarily a good thing that these people didn’t look down on her, Gu Nuan, as a naive young girl. No, it wasn’t a good thing at all. It was as if she, Gu Nuan, hadn’t taken their contempt to heart at all yesterday. She even felt somewhat glad they had looked down on her. In business negotiations, the more the opponent underestimated her, the more advantageous it was for her—it allowed her to catch them off guard.
Now, Li Sitong’s equal treatment actually carried a caution typical among peers in the field, signaling he was ready to confront her with full combat readiness.
Gu Nuan braced herself against the pressure that came her way. Li Sitong was older than her, and in all appearances, he seemed like a seasoned player with abundant social experience, implying extensive business acumen as well.
In terms of real business negotiations, she, Gu Nuan, was a student and had never truly entered this battlefield. This was her first time, and the pressure was naturally immense. Yesterday, their underestimation had given her the best latitude to perform. Today, she didn’t seem to have the same luck.
Upon entering the living room, she wasn’t invited to sit, but instead was led upstairs to the third floor. They were going to meet the legendary Mr. Qiao, the debauchee she had seen yesterday.
After today’s brief encounter, was this man really just a wastrel? She, Gu Nuan, dared not underestimate him.
To underestimate the opponent meant yesterday’s failure on their part could very well befall her today.
When Xiao Yebai saw her approaching, he noticed that the closer she got, the more one could sense a sharp aura emanating from this woman.
She was truly a compelling woman. Plainly dressed, with a ponytail like that of a country girl, should she have been borne from a rustic background like that of a village girl? And yet, had she, for some reason, undergone a complete metamorphosis?
"Please sit, Miss Gu," he said, as Gu Nuan looked up, he caught a glimmer in her eyes, and his eyebrows lifted, "I think, you won’t need to read what I’m saying. You know what I’m saying."
His words left Li Sitong and Zang Xiaolian in a state of surprise.
Gu Nuan’s gaze followed the man as he put down the white coffee cup onto the glass table, and after settling into a comfortable recliner, he crossed his legs.
With his hands clasped together, his slightly raised chin, and his intriguing gaze fixated on her, he said, "You can read lips, Miss Gu. Look at my lips; you’ll know what I’m saying. Starting now, I’ll speak slowly, word by word for you. Feel free to read my lips."
Can read lips? Li Sitong was taken aback.
Zang Xiaolian snapped his fingers, seemingly wanting to smack his forehead.
What does it mean to focus on this man’s lips? Did he think his lips were that attractive?
Gu Nuan suddenly realized she was clenched one hand unwittingly, the corners of her mouth slightly raised: Surely, this was a man not to be underestimated, with deep and unfathomable schemes.
