Contract Marriage: Billionaire and His Deaf Wife -
Chapter 24 The Profligate Son
Chapter 24: Chapter 24 The Profligate Son
That person? Which person?
Gu Nuan followed the direction Su Yixia pointed and turned her head to look.
She saw two young men sitting face to face at a dining table, just in the neighboring milk tea shop.
Both appeared to be in their twenties or thirties. One who looked a bit younger was wearing a grey suit, with the buttons undone to reveal a sky-blue shirt underneath. His naturally handsome features and healthy complexion were accentuated by his slightly curled, linen-colored fringe. At a glance, anyone could tell he was more likely from a big city rather than a local yokel from a small county town.
His eyebrows were long and finely shaped like willow leaves, adding a touch of femininity, yet he had a baby face with small dimples at the corners of his mouth that gathered smiles like fine wine.
It seemed that he noticed Gu Nuan looking his way and he smiled at her, a smile that seemed like a greeting. However, it could also be that he just had that kind of smile for everyone. Anyway, Gu Nuan couldn’t be sure. She just felt once more that this man being in the county town’s milk tea shop was like a corporate salesperson on a rural assignment, similar to someone like Li Sitong who negotiated on behalf of the boss in Aunt Qiu’s house.
But Su Yixia asked, "Does he know you?"
"Who?" Gu Nuan was utterly baffled.
She didn’t know either of the two men at all.
Not to mention the earlier polite smile she received from the baby-faced man with his back to her. The other man, even less likely to be someone Gu Nuan would know.
The other man was wearing a colorful shirt and an exaggeratedly large pair of sunglasses that could completely cover half his face. His long, slender legs were dressed in trendy white trousers, just like a male model on the Paris Fashion Week runway, casually crossing his legs to show off the white leather shoes on his feet.
His hair was like an oil painting, as black and shiny as if it were dripping with ink, glowing under the slanting sun, like the male protagonist in a novel.
Basically, he looked like a spendthrift, a wastrel. A stereotypical rich kid with all the hallmarks of a second-generation heir.
It was strange, what would bring such a person to an obscure milk tea shop in a county town?
If these people were here to sightsee in the county town, having stopped by due to thirst to grab a milk tea, wouldn’t this person find the place too dirty?
As far as Gu Nuan knew, the milk tea shop near her home had been open for twelve years, and she had never seen such clients before. Just one intersection away, there were half a dozen proper Western restaurants with pleasant environments, all located along that one street.
The sunglass-wearing man, with fingers as beautiful as jade, obviously never having done any heavy work, pushed on his sunglasses, and upon meeting Gu Nuan’s gaze, tilted his chin up slightly.
Gu Nuan quickly retracted her gaze, blaming Su Yixia for the awkward situation. Great, now they must think she was ogling them. Otherwise, why would she bother looking at a rich and powerful wastrel?
He had the air of a wastrel, but a face as beautiful as a flower, and a charm that even sunglasses could not hide.
As she thought this, Gu Nuan took a sip of the free Kuding tea provided by the food stall, and her taste buds were immediately met with a bitter taste.
Yet Su Yixia felt that the two men really seemed to know Gu Nuan. Look, they definitely had a reaction when Gu Nuan looked over. However, when other passersby curiously glanced at the two men, they were cold as ice, with no expression or reaction at all. It was as if they were landlords sitting there, scrutinizing a group of slaves.
Such a grand presence and arrogance.
Su Yixia shrugged her beautiful shoulders and said to Gu Nuan, "Anyway, he doesn’t seem like he’s from your county town."
"Stop joking. Our place is just a backwater, and even if a nouveau riche wanted to play poor, he really couldn’t play it to this extent." Gu Nuan revealed the secret in a single sentence. Despite the two men’s rather stylish dress, it was clear they had a different essence from those typical upstarts; they had the genuine quality and presence of wealth.
Reminded by her, Su Yixia gave a special glance at the white leather shoes on the man’s feet: "No wonder he looked familiar. I think I saw them in the fashion magazine I just bought last week, a new design for the year by a Paris designer."
Upon hearing this, Gu Nuan laughed, "So, you judge people by their shoes?"
Su Yixia felt slightly embarrassed: "I genuinely thought he looked kind the first time I saw him, but of course, I couldn’t tell who he was. Now that I think about it, his style, it’s very much like the sons of the wealthy that are featured in the newspapers."
"He’s definitely a rich second generation. But, this kind of person might hit it off with you, they’re certainly not my type," Gu Nuan said casually.
There were also rich second-generations strolling around the university. Of those who pursued a great beauty like Su Yixia, there were quite a few.
Su Yixia let out a snicker: "I can guarantee, those in our university who think they’re rich probably aren’t as wealthy as that man."
Only Gu Nuan could detect the underlying meaning in her laughter, covering her mouth as she kept laughing. What Su Yixia was implying was that the man seemed to unwittingly act as though he didn’t know others were aware of his wealth, and almost seemed to flaunt it. It was unclear whether it was just his nature to show off his wealth.
The two women across the way were laughing and talking as if they had immersed themselves in their own world and were no longer paying attention to them.
Xiao Yebai gently took off his sunglasses and carefully scanned the back of Gu Nuan’s white blouse, and as he traced the path to her ponytail swinging left and right with her laughter, he felt as if the setting sun’s light was dancing on her inky ponytail, like a group of sprites at play.
"Do you think they’re making fun of us?"
When Zang Xiaolian heard him ask that, he was taken aback. He was closer to Gu Nuan’s group and seemed to have heard some comments about the opulent nouveau riche.
"I don’t know, brother," Zang Xiaolian said.
Xiao Yebai’s gaze sharply swept over him: "Are you deaf?"
Zang Xiaolian swallowed the loss in silence. Since you heard it, why ask him?
"Laugh at me for showing off my wealth here?"
Zang Xiaolian looked up and observed that he didn’t seem to be angry. That was also true; there were people who had said worse things to him, and he was never seen taking offense or getting upset.
To put it plainly, this man never played by the rules.
Over there, Su Yixia suddenly lowered her voice and said to Gu Nuan: "I’m sorry. I thought you might have noticed something. I didn’t expect that he would deceive you to this extent."
Gu Nuan seemed to guess what she was about to say, her expression unchanged, "That person, do I know him or not?"
"Actually, I’m not quite sure myself. You know, he knows that you and I are on good terms, so he would avoid letting me spill anything to you. Later on, I did a little digging for you. It seems, it’s really the case. It’s Lin Yishan."
