Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 429 - 429: Worry
Anastasia looked into her husband's eyes. For some reason, she sensed danger in those beautiful eyes. So, she slowly revealed why she came to see him in such a hurry, "Umm… I was really missing Tilla. So, I was wondering if I could go to the Warmane Mansion and spend the day there."
It was not an unreasonable request from Anastasia. However, Caspian seemed reluctant. He turned around and got back inside the tub again. And without giving any response to his wife, he began rubbing his arms. It looked as though he was lost in some deep thoughts.
Anastasia felt her cheeks and ears flushing with warm blood. She wasn't expecting Caspian to act that way at all.
"Did I say something wrong?" she asked in a calculative manner.
Caspian immediately shook his head. Then he proposed an alternative to his Queen, "Can't you ask Vincent to bring Tilla here? I heard that she has recovered pretty well."
"I don't think it is good for her to travel in a carriage just yet," Anastasia replied with a sad look on her face.
Caspian dipped his body until the water came to his neck. And he suggested again, "Then maybe Vincent can carry her and run. It's smoother than the carriage ride."
Anastasia frowned. She didn't understand why Caspian was reluctant to let her leave the castle. 'Is he afraid that someone will cause harm to me?' she wondered.
And she quickly gave a solution to ease Caspian's mind, "If you're worried about my safety then might I remind you that you've assigned guards for me? Maybe some more of your men can follow my carriage if you are still concerned."
Caspian didn't really wish to let Anastasia leave the safety of the castle walls. The frequency of the protests from Bartholomew's lackeys was increasing more and more. And he didn't want Anastasia's carriage to accidentally get caught up in the middle of the protests.
He took a dip in the tub and then cleaned all the foam from his body. He swiftly got out of the tub and then said while drying himself with a towel, "Then I am coming with you."
Anastasia wasn't aware of the protests that were happening outside the wall. So, she scoffed and rubbed her face in frustration. And then she asked him, "Why are you so afraid to let me go alone? I am sure that nobody is waiting out there just so they to kill me."
She was startled when Caspian suddenly stood in front of her with his index finger pressed over her lips. She was afraid that he was going to scold her.
However, Caspian looked at her with concern all over his face and then said softly, "Don't ever say such things so casually. You aren't allowed to talk about deaths. Do you understand me?"
Anastasia's heart began to drum inside her chest when Caspian said that she wasn't allowed to talk about deaths.
She gulped while staring at his concerned face. And then she thought to herself, 'But I have to talk about it soon… I would already have done so if I had found my courage…'
For now, she heaved a sigh and then held Caspian's palm. She placed it over her heart and then softly spoke to him, "I didn't mean to scare you or anything. I just… I just don't want you to leave all of your important meetings just so you could tag along with me."
Caspian looked down and pouted.
Anastasia could tell that he was still thinking about abandoning all of his tasks so that he could follow her.
So, she gently placed her palm over his chest and then said, "I promise I will be fine, Caspian. You know how capable your guards are. They will guard me well."
Caspian let out a quivering breath and then took a step forward. He wrapped Anastasia in his arms and rested his chin on her shoulder.
And he thought to himself, 'I think I am being overly cautious. I mean, what are the chances of her encountering those pests on such a short journey?'
Other than being worried about Anastasia's safety, he was also worried that she would get mad at him if he didn't allow her freedom.
Thus, he decided to put his trust in his guards and looked at her. "Alright. I will arrange some more guards for you. But make sure to return before it gets dark." He firmly held Anastasia by her arms and said once more, "Be home before it's dark, okay?"
Anastasia nodded her head and said with a smile, "I won't be late. So, don't worry too much about me."
She then wrapped her arms around his chest and rested the side of her face over his heart. She could hear a very subtle heartbeat. She wondered if it was because Caspian was afraid at the moment.
She looked up at his face and caught him quickly changing his expression from being worried to smiling. She also smiled back at him and said consolingly, "I will be back home before you even know it."
Anastasia then let go of her hold on him and said somewhat jokingly, "Now now, don't just stare at me. You will be late if you get lost in my pretty face."
Caspian chuckled and leaned down to give a kiss on his wife's forehead. He took a deep breath and warned her again, "And don't open the window during your travel. I will ask the maids to spray my perfume on you and the carriage so that if you encounter someone on the road, they will think I am with you."
"That is great thinking, My King," Anastasia said in a bubbly voice and pretended to bow to her husband. "I will keep your advice in mind."
Caspian laughed and shook his head at that pretentious behavior of his wife. "Alright. You should go and get ready then. I will instruct Percy before I leave for the meeting."
He then cupped his wife's cheeks and gave a kiss on her lips before leading her out of the bathroom. "See you later, wife," he said while waving his hand at his wife.
Anastasia happily smiled and waved back, "See you soon."
