Chapter 388: Chapter 366 Awakening

In Shell Street, K city, Boss Xiao Yu slowly opened his eyes, feeling sore all over, his head as if filled with paste. As he became more lucid, what followed was an intense thirst.

"Water..." he moaned weakly.

There was no response.

Then, he seemed to feel his hand touching something... Influenced by numerous similar scenes from movies and comics, the image naturally popped into his head that Jingjing or Xiao Nan, or maybe his cousin, exhausted from work, had fallen asleep next to his bed.

So, he propped up his body with effort and turned his gaze to the side. Then... "Huh?"

To his surprise, he found himself not on a bed at all, but lying on the ground, with an overturned trash can next to him, and some mineral water bottles scattered at his feet.

This sight swiftly brought him to full alert. He looked around and realized this appeared to be his cousin’s rented apartment, and he was lying on the living room floor with a simple blanket underneath him. The doors on both sides were locked, and the clock on the wall showed it was eight o’clock, with sunlight coming through the gaps in the curtains, undoubtedly indicating it was morning.

"Uh-ah—" Boss Xiao Yu knocked his dizzy head, stood up, and, supporting himself against the wall, made his way to the fridge and guzzled down a bottle of water.

And at that moment.

"Creak..."

A nearby door opened, and Xiao Yu, with wide eyes, saw his cousin, sleepy-eyed, exit the room. The two stared at each other for about 2 seconds...

"Ah————"

A woman’s scream.

"Pfft————"

The sound of water being spat out.

"Ding, clang, ah————"

Beatings, impacts, a man’s cries of pain.

...

...

minutes later, in the living room

Boss Xiao Yu sat on a stool, one cheek slightly swollen, his nose stuffed with tissue paper, faint traces of blood seeping through.

"So... I was unconscious for three days?" he asked in a somewhat strange voice, likely due to accidentally biting his tongue during the recent beating.

"Yeah." His cousin leaned back on the sofa across from him, with two young girls comforting her on each side... Though, it seemed she wasn’t particularly scared and continued to snack while answering.

Xiao Yu couldn’t stand it any longer: "Hey, hey, I’m the one who got the scare, why are you two comforting her?"

"What’s the matter? I wasn’t scared, you know. With all the girls in the house, and you, a man, sneakily getting up early to steal snacks, do you think that’s reasonable?" his cousin immediately retorted righteously.

"But... you guys were the ones who put me in the living room!" Xiao Yu also yelled back.

"We told you to lie down in the living room, who asked you to get up! Look at you, with your ’destined-to-be-fat-otaku’ appearance, in a blink, you can be associated with stalkers and peeping Toms. I’m still somewhat familiar with you, but if it were someone else, they’d have knocked you out and called the police already, okay!"

The cousin ranted, perhaps due to a sliver of blood relation, so she didn’t back down in her retorts at all. The two little ones beside also nodded in agreement, and as if nothing was the matter, they too started munching on snacks.

Xiao Yu took a deep breath, realizing that it was foolish to continue discussing with these three creatures who should be scared, so he prepared to steer the conversation back on track, "Alright, let’s not talk about that, I just want to know why I was dumped in the living room."

"Because none of us wanted you sleeping in our beds," Xiao Nan replied very seriously.

"..." A pause of silence, "No, that’s not what I’m asking. I mean, why did you guys move me to the living room, I was unconscious, for all you know I could have died from that!"

"Correction, you were not unconscious!" Jingjing said coldly.

"Yeah, we found you collapsed behind the bar, so we rushed you to the hospital right away... then, after all the examinations, the doctor said you were perfectly normal. As for why you ended up like this, his explanation was... you might have fallen asleep," the cousin said, her glasses vacant.

"What? Fallen asleep!!" Boss Xiao Yu exclaimed in shock, "What kind of sleep makes one not wake up no matter how much they’re called? Did you guys get a Tarot card reader from the next street to cast a random fortune for me and then just left me to my fate?" Xiao Yu grumbled resentfully, and had his face not been swollen, he would have outright shouted.

"Of course not, but then again, at first the doctor also found it incredible and very responsibly had you stay for observation. It wasn’t until you started grinding your teeth, farting, and snoring, and after receiving complaints from everyone in the ward, that we had no choice but to bring you back. In fact, aside from us, everyone else thought you had a mental problem."

"Huh?" Xiao Yu furrowed his brow, "How could that be..."

"Who knows? After that, we tried many ways to wake you up, but to no avail. Finally, we had no other choice but to leave you here, planning to try another hospital after you got up today, but you woke up on your own."

"That... do the ’various methods’ you mentioned have anything to do with why I feel pain all over my body?"

"Maybe a little bit," the cousin said nonchalantly, "it’s just that in the end when I threatened to burn your figurines in front of you, you were completely unresponsive, so we gave up."

"What!!" Xiao Yu yelled, ignoring the pain as he slapped the chair and stood up.

"Oh, oh, didn’t really burn them, just wanted to scare you, but seeing your reaction, it seems your brain hasn’t been affected," the cousin reassured, pressing her hand down, "so tell me, do you not remember how you suddenly lost consciousness?"

Xiao Yu pondered for a while, then abruptly, it seemed he remembered something.

"Oh, right, that old man... sitting in front of the bar, he said some odd things, then... I just passed out."

"An old man?" Xiao Nan and Jingjing seemed to become instantly alert, "What did he look like?"

Xiao Yu didn’t notice their change in demeanor, still rummaging through his memory, "Hmm... at least 60 years old or more, dressed like a wealthy person... and then, he said he was going to give me something."

"What, you’ve been watching too many anime and movies," the cousin said with a disdainful look, "I think you’re just staying up late every night in your tiny room, watching all sorts of weird stuff, and got yourself sick to the point of not waking up. And now you’re using this kind of excuse to try and bluff your way through?"

"Hey hey, what do you mean ’no restraint’? Don’t just spout nonsense in front of the kids, okay..."

And so, the siblings began to argue back and forth.

Meanwhile, the two little girls who had been enjoying the commotion kept silent, their faces filled with concerns.
