Chapter 386: Chapter 364: Death Five
Villages like this one along the coast usually relied on seafood for a living. Lacking large vessels, they could only fish along the migratory routes of the fish schools, which meant the distance between villages wouldn’t be too far. In less than two hours, the group of five arrived at the next village... However, unfortunately, it seemed to have just been attacked.
"We’re too late..." Abraham said with a hint of regret.
"No, we’re not," Nolr responded calmly. He then walked up to a pool of blood nearby, bent over, and dipped his finger in it: "It’s not dry. And... the bloodstains at the previous place were cleaned up, but here, a pool remains."
"Why is that?" Ziliang ambled over and asked.
"He left in a hurry... There was no time for a proper cleanup. These bloodstains definitely won’t be more than half an hour old, as if... he knew we were coming."
"Does he have surveillance equipment?" Qingniao put away the game console.
Abraham shrugged, "He shouldn’t have any. If there were detection signals scanning me, I should have noticed."
That’s when Nolr seemed to think of something, he reached out his hand: "Give me that blob of meat!" he shouted.
"Oh," Abraham complied, though he didn’t know what the other wanted to do, he didn’t ask. After all, it was best to do what Nolr said, and soon he took out the glass container. To his surprise, he found the small meat blob inside writhing wildly, ramming against the glass in one direction as if trying to break free.
"Is this... a product of the Dark Realm?" Chiyuki looked at the disgusting meatball, frowning uncomfortably, but more puzzled: "How did this thing end up here?"
"Don’t know yet, but anyway, this little guy seems to be able to lead us to something," Nolr said indifferently: "Keep the terrain and thermal imaging up. Ziliang, go ahead. Qingniao, stop playing, there might be danger ahead."
Having said that, he walked in the direction indicated by the little meat blob. The casually lax demeanor of the others vanished in an instant. Ziliang and Chiyuki moved to the front of the team, Qingniao and Nolr walked side by side, and Abraham brought up the rear, his body bristling with various devices, looking like a humanoid armored vehicle.
Like the previous places, the village had turned into ruins, only here the dust and stench of blood had not yet dissipated, and the bloodstains on the ground were not cleaned up. With Abraham’s support, the group was not afraid of any traps or ’terrain kills’. They quickly arrived in front of a large warehouse. The small meat blob in Nolr’s hand seemed to sense a strong call, increasingly eager to break through the barrier and return to its origin.
"There’s something inside," Nolr said mildly.
"I’ll take a look..." Ziliang said nonchalantly, since typically such tasks ended up being his responsibility anyway. He then casually pushed open the warehouse door and strode in.
It was damp inside, with a fishy smell from the seafood, but nothing else seemed to be visible. Ziliang wandered around the warehouse like he was on a post-dinner stroll, flipping and looking around. After a while, he called out to the people outside the door, "There’s nothing in here!"
Nolr hesitated for a moment: "Let’s go in and look."
With that, the remaining four entered the warehouse.
But the moment everyone entered the warehouse, there was a clang, and the door behind them closed. Immediately following, a mass of flesh and blood tissue, emerging from nowhere, covered the door. At the same time, it also covered all the surrounding walls and ceiling. The ground began to crack open, and like boiling water starting to bubble, countless tentacles emerged from the floor... Concurrently, the surrounding tissue began to contract, transforming into a shrinking cage that encased everyone in the middle.
Meanwhile, outside the warehouse, Dos’s figure slowly became visible. A slight smile lingered on his lips, "Heh, getting accustomed to your way of thinking, it seems that setting you up isn’t such a difficult task."
As he spoke, he urged more aberrations to swarm toward the warehouse, enveloping it in multiple layers. He did not rush to crush everyone, but rather rapidly narrowed the encompassing area, preventing Abraham from recklessly using wide-area attacks for fear of injuring his teammates. As long as he didn’t activate the reactor, the remaining people’s attacks seemed inadequate to outpace the regenerative speed of the aberrations. In such a narrow space, with five people, the air would almost be exhausted within tens of seconds... Anyway, even if he started the reactor, it was no issue; he could simply take his time playing with the others who would be severely wounded.
Dos thought to himself, at this moment the enveloping flesh walls had already reached nearly three meters in thickness and more flesh was frantically piling up, seemingly reaching the height of several floors.
Suddenly, Dos frowned, finally noticing that something was amiss. Inside the flesh walls, he couldn’t feel even a hint of life.
"Are you trying to kill us?"
Suddenly, Chiyuki’s voice came from behind Dos.
He was taken aback, turned around, and there, where there had been nobody just moments before, several figures slowly emerged like wraiths. Then, those who should have been trapped appeared before his eyes.
Dos was silent for a while... "Heh, indeed, when it comes to scheming, I truly can’t compare with you."
"You were too obvious. It was clear that thing was trying to lure us in," he said, pointing at the small flesh ball in his hand, which now lay quietly inside a glass cover, wriggling to itself, no longer possessing the madness it had before.
"What about those who just went in...?" Dos asked, confused.
"Holographic projection," Nolr replied indifferently, "None of that matters. What exactly happened to you?"
Dos shook his head, "There’s no need for you to know, because you can’t help me."
"You have to tell us! I know you must be in pain right now, but if you don’t speak up, we’ll never be able to help you!" Chiyuki exclaimed anxiously, pushing Ziliang out of the way, her voice reflecting a profound commitment to friendship, perhaps because of her family background.
Seeing Miss Chiyuki’s demeanor, Dos fell silent for a short while... and then, with a "Pfft~," he burst into laughter, "Ha ha ha—what’s that about, as if you know me so well. Do you think I am in pain right now? Ha-ha, let me tell you, I’m incredibly excited. I haven’t felt this exhilarated in many years!"
He laughed menacingly, slowly spreading his arms, as the giant flesh and blood body behind him began to twist wildly. Then, it split open to reveal a gap, resembling a gaping maw.
"Perhaps you still don’t understand, now you’re no longer my teammates... but food."
