Chapter 365: Chapter 352: Meeting Again
A group of people, guided by a map sent by Amin, quickly ran to the A area.
Area A was not isolated from the other areas—the corridors and such were much the same as before, with the only difference being that the signs were all marked with "A". The doors around them looked virtually the same, standing silently, yet everyone knew that what was contained behind any door could potentially cause a massive disaster.
Since most of the items here were in long-term containment and did not require much experimentation, there were no guards at all... After all, if there were people, they would need to eat, drink, and relieve themselves, and if they accidentally came into contact with any infectious items, the guards would not only be ineffective, but they would also add complications; thus, all the protective measures here were electronically controlled, and most were inside the containment rooms, which is why Chen Xiao and the others encountered no obstacles along the way.
However, because there were many defensive measures in place, Reina was consuming a significant amount of energy, and she was already sweating profusely... "I can only hold on for half an hour more!" she gritted her teeth and said.
"We’ll make it!" Amin’s voice came through the earpiece.
Without further ado, they quickly reached a sealed door marked with a string of numbers: "A-083". If the Foundation’s numbering of each item was indeed based on the order of containment, 083 would suggest it was one of the more recent items to be contained. After all, there were not many A-level anomalies to begin with, let alone those that could be contained. Thus, Chen Xiao didn’t complain too much about the group not rescuing the old man who ate memories in Area C first, as he was also curious about what this A-level anomaly was.
To save time, Locksmith didn’t drill through the wall this time but pulled out a handle instead, sticking it to the door to open it.
By now, Chen Xiao was used to this method of opening doors, and he seemed more concerned about what was behind the door, still craning his neck to look inside.
He watched as Locksmith struggled to open the door... The view inside the containment room gradually came into his sight, and then... "What the hell???" he exclaimed reflexively.
The containment room wasn’t large and aside from the walls, there was nothing inside, not even a bed or a chair. However, the walls were currently covered with dense symbols that were indecipherable, and by the smell and color, it was clear they were painted with blood. In the corner of the room was an... eye with two arms! At first glance, it looked like one of the Evil God’s Messengers from mythological stories.
Indeed, the creature confined within was an eyeball, Mister!
It was unclear whether it had been asleep or dazed because it had no eyelids to show, but when the door opened, it remained motionless on the ground. Only when Chen Xiao shouted did it suddenly "gurgle" and turn around, its large eyeball staring straight at the group, with bloodshot veins and two exceptionally jarring arms—an image truly deserving of the word "terrifying".
"What is that thing?" the nurse stepped back uncomfortably behind Bai Xiong, not having known what they were going to steal this time. Even if she had been told beforehand, seeing a monster appearing like this at first glance would not evoke any fondness. The others hadn’t seen Mister Eyeball before either, so they all frowned unanimously, and Locksmith even took a fighting stance outright.
Then, seeing Chen Xiao, Mister Eyeball immediately propped itself up with its hands and "stood" up with a swish, seeming excitedly bouncy before joyfully running toward the group.
Of course, this was all from Chen Xiao’s perspective. To everyone else, it clearly looked like an A-level monster charging at them.
Everyone was on high alert, Bai Xiong grabbed Locksmith in front of him and stepped forward to shield everyone, while Locksmith raised his fist, charging directly at Mister Eyeball.
Then... with a thud, Locksmith’s body hit the slick surface of Mister Eyeball and was outright bounced aside.
Bai Xiong was shocked. He had used his authority to check Locksmith’s capabilities long ago. Although only a B-level item, at the same speed, the kinetic energy produced was dozens of times what one might expect under normal concepts; essentially, just starting to run made him like a charging rhino, and every part of his body was the same, such as swinging a fist, which could produce a tremendously powerful effect. Yet even so, he was still knocked flying by this eyeball...
This meant the monster, in terms of bodily strength and power, was even above the fully sprinting Locksmith!
At this point, Bai Xiong had no time to think further. He quickly pushed the nurse and Locksmith behind him to clear some space, planted his feet firmly on the ground, powered up his waist, and prepared to face this creature in a life-or-death fight relying on his and the nurse’s healing abilities.
Then... "thud", Mister Eyeball stumbled.
...At this moment, it seemed only to have eyes for Chen Xiao, foolishly rushing straight toward him, ignoring Bai Xiong completely. It covered the ground in three large strides to reach Chen Xiao, half "crouching" down, propping itself up with its hands and rubbing its face against Chen Xiao’s... If it had a tongue, it probably would have licked him.
"Hey, hey—stop freaking rubbing!" Chen Xiao yanked at his neck, shouting as he desperately pushed Mister Eyeball away: "What are you doing here?"
Mister Eyeball, having no mouth, could only wobble in place for a few rounds.
"Hmm... how do I even begin to understand that?" Chen Xiao muttered.
By this time, the others were already staring at Chen Xiao with disbelieving faces, their expressions similar to when they had looked at Mister Eyeball.
"You... know it?" the nurse hesitated, cautiously asking.
Chen Xiao wiped the sticky liquid Mister Eyeball had rubbed on him: "Met a few times, not very familiar though."
"But, it seems very affectionate with you!" Locksmith interjected somewhat painfully.
"Maybe it’s been confined too long. It’s always happy to be let out." Chen Xiao replied.
Just then, Reina suddenly swayed, nearly falling to the ground.
"Can’t hold on anymore, hurry to Area C, I’m losing strength!"
She said weakly.
