Chapter 306: Chapter 293: The Murderer (Part 5)
In the room on the second floor of the factory.
"Mr. Bill... Mr. Bill, I now very much believe in your theory about the mutated kind, so I think, maybe we should call the police?"
"Call the police?" Bill turned his head and stared at the thug, "Are you insulting me?"
"Of course not, it’s just that... uhh... look, that clerk just broke metal screws with his bare hands, so..."
"Are you scared??"
"Uhh... I just feel like I suddenly don’t hate them that much anymore."
Bill spat contemptuously, not even bothering to respond to the thug’s suggestion. He stared again at the surveillance screen, his cheeks bulging while his eyes emitted a strange brilliance. Truth be told, he was indeed incredibly surprised—after all, seeing the kind of scenes that only appeared in comic novels was astonishing to anyone. But more than that, he was thrilled. Watching a group of legendary beings struggle to survive in the cage he had designed was an indescribable pleasure.
In any case... Bill was not afraid.
He had no reason to be afraid.
Because his position was very far from the basement, belonging to two separate areas, completely sealed off from one another with no passages. Circumventing to his location would take at least half an hour, and the path was covered by surveillance cameras. All he needed to do was turn around, go downstairs, and he could drive away. Unless these people could fly, they would never be able to reach him. The most crucial part was, they wouldn’t know where he was. Everything they did was just like a live-action movie. No matter how terrifying the characters in the movies were, to the audience, they were just entertainment.
Even if he entertained the thought that these people actually knew where he was and found the route to this area, and at the same time his car suddenly broke down and he couldn’t leave, Bill had a contingency for that scenario—he had already planted bombs on the only road to this place!!! With just a light press of his finger, these people would be turned to ash. And the aftermath would be handled by those involved in dark dealings; he would face no danger whatsoever.
"Heh... no matter how formidable the prey, it can only strut around in the cage. Let’s see how much amusement you can provide me," Bill muttered to himself with an excited, almost perverse expression.
...
Meanwhile, on the other side,
Owner Xiao Yu blankly stared at the girl Jingjing in front of him, swallowing his saliva. Then he quietly leaned towards Chen Xiao.
"Listen, besides walking out of mirrors, are there any other abilities you haven’t told me about?" he whispered.
Chen Xiao slumped his face, "Ah? Didn’t I tell you? I might have forgotten, it’s nothing, she’s just very strong..."
Xiao Yu felt like crying but had no grounds to throw a fit, so he continued in a hushed voice, "Very strong? She bent those metal bars! Just snapping them, like opening a package. Is ’very strong’ adequate to describe that? Also, what do you mean by ’might have forgotten’? I complained to her when she was making cakes before. What if she accidentally kills me?"
"Oh, stop being so sensitive, it’s just killing you. She’s killed so many people, what’s one more?" Chen Xiao murmured dismissively.
"..." Xiao Yu was sweating now. He felt increasingly uneasy the more he asked, but he felt even more clueless if he didn’t ask, so he hesitated and then questioned, "What... what do you mean, she has killed people before?"
"Oh, it’s not a big deal—just some patients and doctors from a hospital, along with some police and a bunch of forensics officers, just dozens of them. She didn’t mean to do it; just forgive her,"
Xiao Yu wished he could slap himself for asking such needless questions and then glanced at Chen Xiao’s nonchalant demeanor, "Damn it!! Are you all anti-human? How can you be so casual about this kind of thing!!"
Chen Xia seemed slightly displeased and pouted as he complained, "Oh, why are you so fussy? Can’t you even accept the actions of your own employee? Xiao Nan even summoned a horde of monsters that massacred a town before. Some things are bound to happen in this world, whether it’s Jingjing, Xiao Nan, or someone else. We are just the pitiful puppets chosen by these fateful events, and no one can escape."
"But... but how can I accept that they’ve killed people, so many people, and they’re still just kids!"
Chen Xiao again casually placed his hands in his pockets, "Fate put you in that spot, so don’t complain. All you can do is follow what you believe. Just like now, whether you choose to flee alone or to help others, everyone here won’t blame you, even if Xiao Nan is gnawed to bones by rats, Jingjing is torn apart, your cousin dies tragically here, including any random way I might die, we won’t hold it against you. We’re not here expecting moral comfort; all judgments of good and evil towards others are the least useful, because they are merely comical restraints among our kind—like every breath you take, every piece of meat you eat, the ongoing wars, our cruel alteration of this planet. Don’t you see it’s all absurdly ridiculous, just not happening before your eyes? The world is like this, whether you want to be a Demon King or a Savior, it’s neither right nor wrong, so... you just need to do it... ugh!"
As he spoke, Chen Xiao uncomfortably patted his head, "It’s so annoying, every time I talk about this, my head feels uncomfortable, definitely that bastard laughing inside, what a freak. Hehehe..." he suddenly started muttering to himself.
Xiao Yu, however, didn’t notice Chen Xiao’s strange behavior. His mouth hung open slightly as those words seemed both comprehensible and not. This strange, indescribable feeling was something he had experienced while watching some animations, but this time it was even more intense. His heart felt bewildered, anxious, and somewhat restless, of course, without understanding what it meant.
Suddenly...
"Hey! What are you two doing there, hurry up, there’s still a sister to be saved, it’s almost dawn, don’t you want to open for business today?!"
Xiao Nan shouted from ahead.
Xiao Yu suddenly snapped back to reality, "Oh, I’m coming!" he responded and hurriedly followed.
Yes, after all, the coffee shop can’t just not open for business... right?
