Chapter 134 - 134 130 Unknown Task End
Chapter 134: Chapter 130 Unknown Task End Chapter 134: Chapter 130 Unknown Task End “Fresh air?” Qiu Mujin roared, raising her hand and giving a heavy slap to the back of the other person’s head, knocking their baseball cap right off. “Such a bold move, transferring in broad daylight, and with four people, no less. Are you afraid the Foundation’s satellites won’t be able to track you down?”
The man wearing the baseball cap had a fierce look, the type that seemed at home on the tough streets year-round. But now, he appeared like a child caught misbehaving, head bowed, not daring even to pick his cap up.
Seeing the man remain silent, Qiu Mujin sighed helplessly. She had no time to waste on these street rats; she cast a fierce glare at the four of them and pushed open the office door.
…
Judging by the structure and style of the office, the area outside should have been a hallway or conference room of an office building. However, when Qiu Mujin opened the door, what met her eyes was a scene that was rare even in science fiction movies.
It was a vast square space, about half the size of a soccer field, its walls metallic, a bluish-white tinged with many large and small cracks. Blue lights flickered intermittently through the crevices.
Along the bottom of the walls, at intervals of about ten meters, there were doors of all kinds—wooden doors, metal doors, glass doors, electronic doors… all awkwardly set into the walls, each topped with a different number sign, with a key hanging next to it.
In the center of this immense platform stood a towering mechanical column, its top reaching out of sight into the space above. Miscellaneous parts stuck out from it at all angles, making it resemble something built from heaps of discarded machinery. In addition to this, bundles of cables stretched out around the mechanical tower, folding and twisting at various angles like numerous tentacles, that improbably condensed into a single thin black wire, connected to…
…the nape of a boy’s neck.
…
The boy looked to be about 15, bald, wearing a white garment several sizes too large for him. He appeared even smaller in front of the colossal machinery. At the moment, he was sitting on the ground, staring blankly at the floor as if seeing something only visible to him.
Qiu Mujin didn’t linger on the surreal scene before her, instead casually closing the door behind her and hanging the key from her pocket next to the sign on the door.
The sign read “55”.
Afterward, she tugged at the door to ensure it was shut tight, then quickly walked over to the boy’s side.
“How much longer?” she asked with some urgency.
…
No sooner had the words left her mouth than a three-dimensional image appeared out of nowhere in the air before Qiu Mujin.
The screen offered a bird’s eye view from a high angle overlooking an underground parking lot. In the center of the image, a boy was screaming and stumbling towards a strangely-dressed man in purple clothes. Standing in a corner was a tall figure, quietly observing, seemingly disinterested in disturbing the other two.
“According to calculations, it should have been over two minutes ago — that field agent in purple clothes carries a gun, with enough destructive power to destroy the load-bearing layer above the parking lot exit, sealing it off completely. Even if he didn’t want to cause such a big scene, wrecking that car would be easy for him, but he hasn’t done it. I don’t know what he’s thinking, so the variables are just too great. Even the fuzzy algorithm is showing a significant deviation…” the boy said blandly, his voice still youthful but his tone oddly mature, as if he had experiences far beyond his years.
Qiu Mujin’s frown deepened… She watched as the child in the screen, clutching an object similar to an awl, frantically attacked the other man, who desperately shielded his vital areas with his purple suit, running around in utter disarray. The man was clearly covered in blood, yet his mouth was stretched wide in a grin, as though laughing maniacally while fending off the assault…
“Madman…” she murmured softly… and then, it seemed she suddenly thought of something…
“Can you see the physical condition of the target?” Qiu Mujin asked.
“Theirs, or ours?” the boy still asked in a faint tone.
Qiu Mujin fell silent for a moment, then responded, “Theirs!”
The boy slowly closed his eyes, and from the outside, one could see his eyeballs rapidly rotating beneath his eyelids.
“Order Foundation abnormal item C-207, right shoulder end dislocated, complete rupture of radial tendons in the wrist, severe damage to muscles throughout the body, bleeding in the major joints, bilateral Achilles tendon tear, lactic acid accumulation toxicity exceeding the normal human limit by twice, he can’t possibly stand up again… unless…”
“Unless he’s in self-hypnosis…” Qiu Mujin took over and then asked, “How much longer until the threshold?”
“He can hold on for at most 30 seconds…” the boy answered with his eyes open, and continued to say, “After 30 seconds, he will fall, and according to the process in the Order Foundation’s database, he will first be escorted to the C-level containment area of the K City Abnormal Biology Research Center. One day later, personnel from the Asian branch will come to take over… accompanied by two C-level field agents and three guards. I can access the profiles of the personnel and the transfer route…”
Qiu Mujin shook her head, signaling for him not to continue.
“You don’t have to try to persuade me; I know what I’m doing!”
After hearing her words, the boy helplessly shrugged and said, “I’m not trying to persuade you. I know the K City Abnormal Biology Research Center is just a small checkpoint, but it’s still a branch of the Order Foundation, is it worth it?”
Qiu Mujin lightly raised an eyebrow, “To get you out, I dared to break into the Asian branch. Not to mention a place as small as this.” She spoke as if talking about something very ordinary.
“Then why not strike on the escort route, which would be much simpler?” the boy asked again.
Qiu Mujin smiled, “Because this time it’s not just about snatching the kid, I also want to see him again…”
As she spoke, she looked at the holographic image in front of her.
At that moment, the image showed the child finally unable to sustain the collapse of his body, collapsing onto the ground with a “thud,” and the man in purple laughed even more unbridled upon seeing the other fall. He ran over, swung his head madly with his mouth wide open, and then kicked, without any grace, the motionless body of the child, lying on the ground like mud…
Qiu Mujin’s gaze focused on the manic laughing man.
“Such an interesting event… Can you really hold yourself back?”
