Just as everyone expected, arriving in a C-level zone meant a significant increase in mission bonuses. Accordingly, the risks were definitely much higher than those in D-level zones. As for Chen Xiao,

…he was, naturally, even more thrilled.

He dashed across the street, making a beeline for a man standing next to a police car in front of the hospital.

He had spotted the man from across the street, the same “team leader” he had met during his mission concerning “bugs.”

At the moment, the “Team Leader Uncle” was facing his officers, loudly chiding them about something. With his own loud voice and the surrounding traffic, he didn’t notice Chen Xiao had already approached him from behind.

Chen Xiao didn’t bother with formalities and simply tapped the man on the shoulder.

The uncle turned around, looking at Chen Xiao with displeasure…

“What do you want?” he barked irritably.

Chen Xiao paused for a moment, as if he suddenly remembered something, then took off his mask. He tilted his head and stared straight at the man. Then, thinking it might be impolite, he grinned, revealing a very “brilliant” smile.

The uncle’s expression changed instantly; he looked at Chen Xiao’s face, first with surprise, then a mix of feelings—grievance, misery, and annoyance—merged on his face.

“Why is it you…” the uncle asked with a grimace. Normally, C-level missions in K City were carried out by a woman.

Although he had only met Chen Xiao once, the impact this guy had left on him was genuinely profound; the expression he wore while blowing up a villa was utterly antisocial, undeniably beyond correction. If he hadn’t known that the man was part of the field team, he would have arrested him on the spot.

Chen Xiao picked up on the man’s confusion and cheerfully said, “Oh, I’m getting promoted to C-level.”

While saying this, he swayed back and forth, like he was waiting for a compliment.

“Oh… congratulations…” the uncle said with a sobbing tone, his expression as if he were surrounded and pinned down by a group of landlord-like old ladies, over and over again.

K City Central Hospital was quite large, and Chen Xiao and “Team Leader Uncle” took the elevator to the 17th floor. On the way, the uncle briefly explained to Chen Xiao that around 9 o’clock last night, almost simultaneously, two “murder cases” occurred. Of course, everyone knew it wasn’t simply a case of “human killing human.” The cause of death and the method used were definitely not “normal phenomena”; otherwise, the field team wouldn’t have been called out.

“Ding-dong,” the 17th floor was reached.

The two stepped out of the elevator.

This level was the “high care ward,” where each room housed a single patient, unlike the regular wards where several patients shared a room. The nursing and medical equipment here were also somewhat more complete and, of course, the daily cost was much more expensive.

Just stepping out of the elevator, Chen Xiao saw that the corridor directly in front of them was cordoned off with police tape, and occasionally, several police officers passed within view.

“Wow, is the whole floor sealed off?” he asked, somewhat astonished.

Given the large volume of patients in this hospital, directly sealing an entire floor was very against the Foundation’s usual style of “hide if possible.”

The uncle nodded and passed the police tape with Chen Xiao.

The police officers inside greeted the uncle courteously, then their gazes swept over Chen Xiao’s face, hesitated briefly, then quickly disguised their reactions and went back to their duties.

“Hey, hey, you, bring over the photos,” the uncle called to a man with a camera up ahead.

Soon, the man handed over several photos.

The uncle handed them to Chen Xiao and said, “Fang Rui, 40 years old, doctor. Last night at 9:10 PM, after examining a patient, he went to the washroom in the ward to wash his hands and then did not come out until much later. The family found it odd, checked on him, and found him like this.”

The first photo showed a man lying in a pool of blood. Describing him as a man was only possible from his build and the style of his white lab coat, as his entire head was missing. From the appearance of the skin at the neck, it was forcibly ripped off by an extraordinarily large force.

Chen Xiao then looked at the second photo, which showed a head lying in a corner with a section of the spine attached. The floor below was stained with blood to such an extent that its original color was indiscernible. In the bottom left corner of the photo, a small part of the “headless corpse’s” white lab coat was still visible.

“This is it!” the uncle’s voice came through.

Chen Xiao continued to stare at the photos, then followed the voice into the ward.

Since it was a single room, the entire ward was quite spacious. Two beds were lined up in the middle, but now the bedding was piled up haphazardly on the beds, and the floor was cluttered with all sorts of debris. One could imagine, with such an incident, this family would have gone as far away as possible as quickly as possible, and of course, according to the Foundation’s style, probably underwent some “special handling.”

At the moment, Chen Xiao stood at the doorway, and to his right was the washroom, not more than 10 square meters in size, a washbasin, a mirror, a toilet, and a small hook on the wall beside the toilet for hanging IV bags, all tiled in white—this was visible through the gaps between the blood splatters covering the walls.

An outline of a body lying on the floor was drawn in white lines, and opposite the door in the corner, a small, irregular circle was also drawn. Due to the excessive amount of blood, many areas already covered the white lines.

“As there were quite a few eyewitnesses, the body had to be moved first. No suspicious fingerprints, no weapon, the door was closed, and there was definitely nobody else in the washroom from the time Doctor Fang entered until the family noticed something was wrong. It took 5 minutes, during which the sound of water running from the tap lasted for 20 seconds, then it was turned off. The family had no suspicions and no strange mechanisms or secret passages were found. In short, other than the bizarre nature of this death, everything else was without question,” explained the uncle.

Chen Xiao nodded. He just stood at the door, looked around the washroom, then glanced at the ceiling where the bloodstains had mostly dried up. He pondered for a moment, then directly asked,

What about the second scene?

After hearing this, “Team Leader Uncle” inexplicably chuckled, as if he had thought of something very helpless and absurd.

“The second one, oh… come with me…”
