Chapter 623: Chapter 407: Offbeat_1
In the dark and sinister tropical rainforest.
Where the flashlight’s beam landed, the color of the plants seemed particularly gloomy.
The climate outside human comfort zones, if endured for too long, could give rise to irritation and anxiety.
Both the outsiders like Cai Bing and his company, and the locals who were quite familiar with the place, were eager to leave at this moment.
Except for Feng Yi.
He was fiddling with a segment of the giant python’s body that had just been fished out of a puddle, mulling over the words Cai Bing had translated.
A deity?!
That’s way off mark!
What kind of perception would consider a python as a deity?
The villagers looked pretty normal on any other day! What was wrong?
This python seemed like a typical wild pattern python, nothing as eye-catching as those fancy gene breeds in the zoos.
Its appearance...
Although only its middle section was visible and its head unseen, these wild pattern pythons all looked similar, and certainly not distinctively elegant.
Its size...
It was of the extreme individual size category, but not unique—captive ones could grow this large too.
Certainly rarer in the wild.
But, if this really was the one worshipped by the villagers, its size was justifiable.
This python was somewhat chubby, and upon closer sniff, there was still a hint of pig scent—fed by the villagers.
The pigs the villagers carried into the forest earlier must have been for feeding it.
That’s just absurd!
Feng Yi inspected the snake from all angles but couldn’t see anything special about it.
The villager who accused Feng Yi of desecrating their deity was still shouting. His emotional signals didn’t carry aggression, just some anxiety.
Rustling sounds came from not far off, the villagers who went to rescue people were heading this way. Judging from the scent, they had already saved someone and were moving with the group, and would soon arrive here.
Feng Yi wasn’t flustered.
The more critical the situation, the less one should act rashly. He looked at Cai Bing.
Cai Bing opened his mouth but didn’t translate in detail, instead he pointed with a somewhat headache-ridden expression at the other villagers who had arrived, and said, "He’s calling for people."
The other villagers who had arrived were also shocked at the scene, especially the village chief, who looked as though he was about to charge over and start a fight.
To prevent Feng Yi from being attacked by the villagers, Jia and Ding immediately stepped in front of him.
At this moment, both sides were in a standoff.
One side with unfriendly expressions, the other vigilant and defensive.
Cai Bing, seeing this state of affairs, was also tense and whispered softly, "Be careful! They might engage in some rash actions!"
Never underestimate native tribes—some villagers’ houses still display ancient skulls, the trophies of their youth in combat, serving as both decoration and bragging rights, and also as a deterrent to outsiders.
Although it’s now a peaceful era, when driven by impulse, no one knows what they might do.
Cai Bing hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from the villagers. Feng Yi just fished a python out of a puddle, and did nothing else, yet the villagers reacted this way!
Cai Bing had never imagined that this village’s so-called deity would be a python!
Aren’t these creatures common in tropical rainforests?!
The python Feng Yi was handling, apart from being a bit large, had no other notable features.
But regardless, the situation at hand was certainly not in their favor.
Cai Bing’s expression was serious as he pondered a solution.
Feng Yi, watching this unfold, gestured to Jia and Ding to stand aside, and then asked Cai Bing to translate that he had something to say.
Feng Yi said to the villagers, "Please don’t misunderstand, I have no other intentions, I mean no offense, and certainly no desecration of your deity."
He touched the segment of the python’s body he had in his hands, gently placing it back down.
During this process, as he turned his back and out of everyone’s sight, Feng Yi’s eyes fixated on the python’s, and his pupils changed abruptly, the sharp ellipse bearing an invisible deterrence, dispersing unseen informational substance.
It was only a brief moment, one or two breaths in time, but Feng Yi had performed simple communication and guidance with the python.
Turning back around, Feng Yi reverted to his previous demeanor, with the same friendly smile as before, as if nothing had happened.
"Please don’t misunderstand, I was just making a friendly greeting to it."
As Feng Yi spoke, he took another step forward, distancing himself from the others, facilitating the next move.
On the side.
Whoosh—
The sound of water wasn’t loud, but at this time, when everything was very quiet and no one was making any moves, it was particularly clear.
The dead leaves and broken branches crunched feebly under the immense bulk.
In such an atmosphere, one could only feel a chill emanating from the surroundings.
The python that Feng Yi had lowered was twisting its muscular body. They had only seen a section of it earlier and had no idea where its head was, but now as it slowly slithered out, it became visible.
Just as Feng Yi had thought, it was a wild-type, original color patterned python, which had nothing to do with "delicate beauty."
The others focused their attention on the python.
Compared to Jia and Ding’s calmness, Cai Bing and Feng Shou were extremely panicked at this moment.
They had never been so close to a giant python in the wild before!
Even when they did encounter one in the wild before, they would not approach it. With a creature like a python, as long as you stay away, you are safe.
At this distance, well... they could still run if they needed to, which would be safer than Feng Yi’s situation.
The villagers’ nerves were stretched tight, the village chief’s old face even beginning to twitch.
Anger, anxiety, but ultimately, for the greater good and to prevent a potentially fatal event, the village chief suppressed his dissatisfaction and hissed towards Feng Yi, "Get away quickly!"
Remembering that Feng Yi didn’t understand their language, the village chief urged Cai Bing, "Bring him over here, quickly!"
Cai Bing... Cai Bing was at a loss too!
He knew who Feng Yi was, which only made him even more uncertain about what to do.
Looking at Jia and Ding who had already retreated to one side, Cai Bing took a deep breath and decided to continue watching!
These two assistants definitely knew Feng Yi better; all he had to do as the interpreter was follow their lead.
Amid the tense atmosphere, the python had turned back, its massive body not allowing it to move as swiftly as smaller snakes, but no one dared to underestimate its close-range burst attack power and constriction force!
Feng Yi was right within its effective attack range!
The python flicked its tongue out, sensing the breath of everything around it, its blotched snake face looking all the more ferocious.
It slowly approached Feng Yi, closing the already short distance even further.
Seeing this, the others couldn’t help but breathe more quietly.
A villager with a knife raised his hand slightly, but considering the meaning of this python to their village, and then comparing it to the unfamiliar outsider... his hand fell back down.
Feng Yi could clearly sense everyone’s emotions but wasn’t concerned about those at the moment.
The giant python, now at his feet, seemed hesitant and didn’t move.
Feng Yi decided to help it out.
Bending down, he reached out, lifting the python to provide it with support.
The python crawled up to Feng Yi’s shoulder, winding around the back of his neck, resembling a huge, heavy, decorative scarf draped over him, with a significant length trailing on the ground.
Wearing this "scarf," Feng Yi seemed to struggle a bit but eventually stood firm, facing the villagers and revealing a friendly smile:
"Love, and peace."
Feng Yi’s action was simply to prove his earlier words to the villagers that he meant "no offense, just a friendly greeting."
Upon witnessing this, the villagers’ faces were filled with dumbfounded amazement.
Although it was a brief moment, it felt as though something beyond their understanding had occurred.
Oh, they still didn’t understand now!
But regardless, this scene unfolded before all of them, without any deception or forgery!
So, could Feng Yi also be considered a friend of their deities?
The villagers were greatly impressed; their earlier anger and dissatisfaction quickly dissipated, and their eyes turned increasingly fervent towards Feng Yi. They were subtly shifting from one extreme to another.
Compared to the villagers’ abrupt change in attitude, Cai Bing was in much greater turmoil inside!
Are the pythons of the tropical rainforest this gentle?!
Cai Bing, who considered himself well-traveled, was wide-eyed in disbelief.
If anyone had told him before that wild pythons could be gentle, he would have spat in their face!
Wasn’t this snake known for being vicious, with actual records of it consuming humans?
Could this be an individual difference?
Had they encountered a mild-tempered one today?
No matter what the truth was, at least the python seemed far less dangerous than usual. Cai Bing’s tension eased a bit, and his gaze shifted back to the python’s size.
A glance and Cai Bing almost sprayed his saliva in excitement: "This... has to be ten meters, right?!"
Feng Yi: "Seven meters, I’d say."
Cai Bing’s first reaction: "Impossible!"
It looked so big; how could it be only seven meters!
Feng Yi said, "It’s really not that exaggerated. These large pythons are visually deceptive; you might think they’re eight to ten meters, but they’re actually just about six or seven meters, maybe even less than six. This one should be able to reach seven meters—it looks quite plump, probably from eating pigs."
