Chapter 622: Chapter 406: A Deity?_3
Sometimes, even the rocks under the grass or an inconspicuous depression, Feng Yi could discover and remind everyone to pay attention.
The village chief and his companions looked at Feng Yi with increasingly astonished and uncertain eyes, but their concern for their grandson’s safety was paramount, and they suppressed their urge to speak out.
As they were about to reach the forbidden area, the village chief was about to speak when Feng Yi suddenly stopped:
"Is that his item?"
Feng Yi’s flashlight beam pointed to a spot on the ground.
The village chief’s son hurried over and found a wooden whistle on the branches of the bushes ahead, exclaiming excitedly, "It’s his!"
As he spoke, he took out another wooden whistle and blew it rhythmically, sounding like some kind of bird call in the night.
As they had searched along the way, they would occasionally blow the whistle in this manner.
In the forest, they would not shout loudly but use some whistle signals that the villagers could understand to convey messages.
"No wonder we haven’t heard Sulayem’s whistle; it turns out he dropped it here!" a villager said.
Cai Bing walked up to Feng Yi and whispered a translation.
He then muttered, "Just ahead is the forbidden area they talked about, and who knows what condition that kid is in now."
Feng Yi discerned the scent carried by the evening breeze, "He’s still alive."
Cai Bing was about to ask for the basis for this assertion when he heard a shout in the distance, sounding like a child’s cry.
The villagers heard it too and took a few steps forward before looking at the village chief.
The village chief directed the two men carrying the pig to move ahead.
Hearing the child’s voice, the village chief and his party also breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that being able to call out meant he was still alive, at least there was a response.
But in this place, as long as the person had not been seen, they could not let down their guard.
The group quickened their pace towards the source of the sound.
The voice grew closer, and it seemed as if the child was calling out from a tree.
That made sense, the ground was too dangerous.
Just as they were walking, the village chief suddenly gestured for Feng Yi and the others to stop, signaling that they should not proceed any further.
Since the person had been found, indeed there was no need for Feng Yi and his group to go any further.
Cai Bing said to the village chief, "Alright, we will wait here."
Next, the village chief and his men, still carrying the pig, continued moving ahead but much more slowly. It wasn’t that they were not anxious but rather much more cautious, as if with each step they needed to be aware of what was underfoot, at their side, and nearby.
Cai Bing said, "Indeed, the rainforest is very dangerous. Even though we are not yet in the inner circle of the rainforest, it’s already quite eerie here, as if some ferocious beast has its eyes on us."
Feng Yi: "Mm. There’s a python over there, don’t get close."
This statement almost made Cai Bing jump, but he was somewhat prepared; after all, tropical rainforests are known for their abundance of snakes, including many large pythons.
He definitely wouldn’t get close, but curiosity got the better of him, "Where?"
"Over there." Feng Yi pointed with the beam of his flashlight.
There was some stagnant water among the grass and a mix of dead leaves and rotting wood.
Cai Bing almost popped his eyes out but still couldn’t find it, "Where?"
Feng Yi, impatiently, "There. Where the flashlight is pointing."
Cai Bing, nearly going blind from searching, "Isn’t that just leaves and wood?"
Feng Yi, annoyed, took big strides over and reached out to rummage through it.
"Here!"
A segment of a round body covered in patterns and scales was pulled from the chaotic backdrop.
It was thicker than Cai Bing’s thigh!
Cai Bing: !!!
"Ahhhhhh! *&%$"
This wasn’t Cai Bin yelling, but a villager who had come over to watch.
Yet this villager’s emotions were intense, and his expression exaggerated.
Feng Yi, "What’s he ranting about?"
Cai Bing, "He says you’ve desecrated their god!"
Feng Yi: ???
Feng Yi then shuffled the struggling section of the body in his hand again.
This thing?
A god?
