Chapter 543: Chapter 356 Territory_2
Jia presented the opened food packages to Feng Yi.
Feng Yi smelled them and confirmed that there was indeed no smell of spoilage.
"Bing is already preparing the supplies, we can deal with these first, and later fill this space with food that has a more recent production date," Feng Yi said.
Jia: "...Okay."
He looked at the stored food and then at Feng Yi.
Feng Yi had already started nibbling on a freshly opened bag of compressed biscuits.
Jia thought to himself: The "we" in your earlier statement could be removed.
While eating the stored compressed biscuits, Feng Yi was slightly dissatisfied: "They taste of additives and are not as delicious as those Bing makes."
However, he could understand that some other ingredients would be added to extend the shelf-life of these emergency foods.
Feng Yi picked out several more packs and put them into a box to take back to his room, to snack on when he was hungry.
He continued to inspect the shelter here with Jia.
The main inspection was to see whether it was safe and sturdy. Some places that often suffer from hurricanes, for example, if the shelter isn’t well built or is too frail, a tornado could pass by, break down the door, and sweep away everyone inside.
Jia: "The door of the entrance and exit is very well sealed and incredibly sturdy."
Creak—
The door handle was twisted out of shape by Feng Yi.
"Indeed, it’s passable," Feng Yi said, as he twisted the deformed door handle back to its original shape.
His words were sincere; an average door wouldn’t withstand his grip and could easily snap off.
This one only deformed slightly, making it relatively sturdy.
Jia paused for a moment, but kept his composure and continued to check inside.
After all, they were well aware that ordinary standards did not apply to Feng Yi.
The shelter built here was intended for ordinary people, for whom a storm would be a disaster. But for Feng Yi, such storms wouldn’t even pose a life-threatening danger.
The shelters on the island were just for Jia and the accompanying staff.
Feng Yi and Jia inspected the shelter and its air circulation system.
Yi and Ding were cleaning some areas inside.
With no one else around, Ding looked through the window at the distant sea and leaned closer to whisper to Yi, "Could there be any terrifying sea monsters in these waters?"
As Yi was tidying up a cupboard and removing some of the previous owner’s belongings, he casually responded, "When it comes to being terrifying, who can compare to..."
Their conversation ended abruptly, and both of them silently focused on their tasks.
The next moment, the housekeeper passed by. Fortunately, he didn’t notice them.
Once the housekeeper was gone, Yi didn’t continue the earlier topic but just gave Ding a "you know what I mean" look.
While the housekeeper was present, there were certain adjectives and nouns they were not comfortable saying aloud.
Ding accurately caught the unspoken implication and pondered it.
After finishing tidying up the room, Ding left for a while and later came back to find Yi:
"I just went to check the boat over there, and took a dive to look around. There’s really not a single fish in the vicinity!"
Was this akin to how certain predators in nature marked their territory?
That’s pretty ferocious!
Ding felt relieved.
When it comes to being terrifying, what sea creature could compete with our guy here?
After thoroughly checking every place on the island, Feng Yi returned to the house.
Currently, they mainly resided in this larger house situated on higher ground, which had more space and more rooms, with some tools and equipment also stored here.
The island’s renovation would take some time before it could begin; it wasn’t something that could be done immediately. Regarding the design, the housekeeper took on the task with great enthusiasm.
Before the design plan was finalized, the facilities on the island were to remain in their original state.
Bing had flown back and forth several times, transporting the necessary supplies and basic equipment. They could live here for a while.
And as the days passed by, Feng Yi was ready to set off. He had to depart early to search for that small, drifting rock island in the sea.
He had purchased the island simply to facilitate his travels back and forth, and to indulge in the pleasure of free swimming. It could not serve as a place for his molting.
The disturbances caused by Feng Yi’s molting had become too great. When a storm whipped up, most small islands couldn’t withstand it—what if the island’s scenery was destroyed? And not to mention the presence of the caretaker and Jia among others, the island’s shelter wasn’t absolutely safe.
Madam Feng was a bit worried about leaving the caretaker and others behind while he molted. He had suggested that the caretaker and Jia return to Yang City first, and come back after a few days.
But the caretaker refused.
"I’m staying here to wait for someone," the caretaker said.
"Who?" Feng Yi was curious.
"Xin."
"What Xin... oh! You mean, Xin?" Feng Yi exclaimed with surprise.
When "Jia," "Yi," "Bing," "Ding," and others had appeared one after another, Feng Yi had also asked about the remaining individuals.
The caretaker explained that the remaining individuals were uncertain and would be contacted only when needed. The caretaker was merely a contact person, not a decision-maker.
The selection was the responsibility of Feng Yi’s great-grandmother.
Although Feng Yi was curious, he felt that when the time was right, the person would naturally come, and so he didn’t dwell too much on it.
Apart from matters involving his own secrets, all other affairs could be dealt with by hiring specialized personnel and teams. Over time, Feng Yi had almost forgotten that not all of his great-grandmother’s chosen individuals had arrived.
"Xin is coming? What kind of person is he? What is his specialty?" Feng Yi was curious.
He was genuinely curious. Jia and the others hadn’t mentioned this colleague, and even when Feng Yi had asked them, they didn’t know much either.
"As for Xin, I’m not very familiar with him either. He was saved by Madam Feng, and due to some experiences in his childhood, he suffered psychological trauma, acts in a rather solitary manner, and doesn’t like to associate with others," said the caretaker.
This could also explain why Jia and the others didn’t know much about this colleague.
"Moreover, my contact with him has been limited; even when I send him messages, he doesn’t necessarily reply. It was only after you purchased the island that I sent him a message again," the caretaker continued.
Hearing this, Feng Yi speculated about Xin’s identity, "So his job is related to the island?"
"Correct, he is very suitable for managing the island, and for him, it might also represent the kind of life he yearns for," the caretaker explained.
Feng Yi grew even more curious about this individual.
"How old is he?"
"About the same age as Jia and the others."
"Do you have a photo?"
"No, I haven’t seen him myself for several years. Madam Feng has visited him a few times. Apart from Madam Feng, his attitude towards others isn’t good, and he never replied to my messages before."
The caretaker wasn’t upset by these traits; on the contrary, he seemed quite pleased with Xin’s attitude.
"It was only after you bought the island that I had Bing send him an email I had prepared in advance. When Bing came to deliver supplies, he told me he had received a reply. I think Xin will be arriving soon," said the caretaker.
He explained this to Feng Yi as to why Xin was only being contacted now.
Because Xin didn’t respond to people!
Feng Yi listened to the caretaker’s words, his curiosity was piqued, but with the molting time approaching and his departure imminent, he couldn’t stay on the island any longer.
Seeing the look of regret on Feng Yi’s face, the caretaker consoled him, "You’ll meet him when you return."
"Hmm."
Although the caretaker’s descriptions suggested that Xin might not be easy to get along with and seemed somewhat aloof, since he was chosen by his great-grandmother, he should be a reliable person.
As for what kind of person he truly was in character and morality, Feng Yi would find out upon meeting him.
Feng Yi was good at discerning true emotions.
The day before his departure, Bing prepared a sumptuous meal for Feng Yi.
For the next while, Feng Yi might not get to enjoy any delicacies until he returned after completing his molting.
The caretaker wanted to prepare a backpack with food for Feng Yi, but he didn’t take it.
He was feasting voraciously these few days, storing up enough energy to sustain him through his molting.
Carrying a pack would also hinder his speed.
Without carrying anything or wearing anything, Feng Yi transformed into his true form and plunged into the sea, darting through the water like an arrow.
