Chapter 462: Chapter 317: Are We Still Choosing People?_2
Mute Uncle then asked Feng Yi, "Like meteorites? Then pry it out."
Feng Yi: "I’m just a bit interested, wouldn’t say I like them. You should let this one stay here."
Something occurred to Mute Uncle. He put down his cell phone, made a gesture to Feng Yi to wait, then went into his room.
When he came out a moment later, he was holding a palm-sized square box, which he casually tossed to Feng Yi.
The moment Feng Yi caught the box, he sensed something special about the item inside.
He opened the box to find a beaded hand chain.
"Beads made of iron meteorite?"
The raw material for this hand chain wasn’t particularly remarkable and it didn’t contain any energetic substances, but Feng Yi was all too familiar with the protective layer on its surface.
"Did your grandmother make this?" Feng Yi asked.
Mute Uncle typed on his phone: "I made it, but asked her to help with the protective layer."
Feng Yi understood. Mute Uncle knew about the protective layer.
Because of this layer, the natural pattern of the meteorite became more subtle, and the original luster was less metallic and cold.
Indeed, due to the alteration caused by this layer, those familiar with iron meteorites might not recognize the material of the hand chain at first glance.
Mute Uncle: "Take it and play!"
Feng Yi: "Thank you, Uncle."
Knowing Mute Uncle’s temperament, Feng Yi did not refuse.
After examining the hand chain, he intended to put it back in the box, but noticing Mute Uncle’s eyes fixed on him, seemingly dissatisfied with this action, he paused.
Feng Yi then slipped the hand chain onto his wrist.
Mute Uncle nodded in satisfaction and turned his gaze away.
While Feng Yi continued his clearing up, Mute Uncle received a message from his game-playing buddies, inviting him to watch a performance.
Upon hearing this, Feng Yi didn’t linger. He left two pieces of cake for Jia and helped tidy up the teacups and plates before saying goodbye to Mute Uncle.
Before leaving, Feng Yi asked Mute Uncle if he needed a lift. Mute Uncle declined.
After Feng Yi left, Mute Uncle sat at the tea table, glanced at his wrist, and reminisced about some past events.
The iron meteorite hand chain was indeed made by him. There was a fad for meteorite accessories for a while, so he crafted some beads and had them coated with a layer to reduce their magnetism, protect them from external factors, and serve a decorative purpose.
Back then, he thought the hand chain was the epitome of cool and would often show it off.
Later, as trends and aesthetic tastes changed, he began to find the hand chain ugly and cumbersome, interfering with his mahjong games, so he put it away to gather dust in a corner.
Had it not been for Feng Yi’s mention of meteorites, he would have completely forgotten about his hand chain.
Still, something felt off.
He thought it was ugly and never wore it.
The same was true now. On its own, he still found it exceedingly unattractive!
Yet, why did it look quite nice when Feng Yi wore it?
Does this damn thing pick its wearer?
When Feng Yi got home, the butler immediately noticed the hand chain on his wrist. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, and a look of disdain flashed through his eyes, but then he seemed to think of something, and the frown smoothed out as the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
As if giving a casual reminder, the butler said, "You should start preparing the attire and accessories for the event, right?"
Feng Yi: "I’ll leave the clothing to you, but no need for accessories, I already have plenty!"
For a high-profile entertainment event, the wardrobe would definitely require careful selection, and Feng Yi knew the butler had better taste than him, so he felt assured entrusting this matter to him.
His current income could support the butler’s high standards!
Regarding accessories, Feng Yi remembered the box Jia had brought out on Dragon Boat Festival, filled with various men’s accessories prepared by the butler, suitable for all occasions, so there was no need for the butler to trouble himself further.
What mattered most was that Feng Yi didn’t place much importance on the event.
Right now, Feng Yi was more concerned about his mid-year review results.
Although confident and feeling that his performance was decent, there was still a bit of anxiety until the results were out.
This subtle anxiety lasted until the day the results were released.
As the "Excellent" rating appeared on the screen, Feng Yi finally relaxed.
The appraisal at the Joint Protection Bureau wasn’t merely about handling a multitude of tasks—the final score wouldn’t be high just for that.
If one undertook many tasks but failed to achieve impressive actual results, the overall score would only be considered average.
In a few expert exchange groups related to the appraisal, there was discussion. Feng Yi didn’t show off his own excellent rating, well aware that achieving a high score was due to an advantage—failing to produce results would waste this ancestral ability!
The first thing after checking the score—
"Bing! Prepare more provisions for my trip!"
"The results are out?" the butler quickly approached and asked.
"Yes, the mid-year review is in, got an ’Excellent’!" Feng Yi said with a smile.
"Very good!" the butler exclaimed verbally, though his expression seemed to say it was to be expected.
He then started to get things ready for Feng Yi, including clothes and essential personal items.
Knowing Feng Yi was heading to Jing City for the event, the butler had already begun his preparations.
This trip to the bustling Jing City was different from accompanying the Joint Protection Bureau’s patrol team to remote mountains and forests, so the items to bring were of course not the same.
A large water jug like a bucket was one such item that wasn’t necessary this time around.
