Chapter 461: Chapter 317: Are You Still Choosing People?_1
The tea merchant guest didn’t stay at Mute Uncle’s for too long. It seemed like he was there to catch up on old times, but he also came with a bit of probing.
Feng Yi guessed that if there were any kind of deity statues to worship here, the tea merchant would probably have not hesitated to perform a devout ritual.
But the tea merchant knew the ways of the world. Seeing that Mute Uncle did not appreciate that, he didn’t mention it further and quickly changed the subject.
After chatting about the current market and complaining about the weather this year, when a pot of tea was finished, the tea merchant left.
Looking at the empty teapot, Mute Uncle curled his lip.
If Feng Yi hadn’t come over today, he would’ve just dealt with the tea merchant with any old bottle of mineral water. Offer Xiao Feng Mountain’s spring water? Dream on!
As for business acquaintances, they could only be considered average, just to the extent of sitting down and having a few words, not yet to the point of such generosity.
Having dealt with one visitor, Mute Uncle then turned his gaze towards Feng Yi, signaling with his eyes, "What brings you here?"
Feng Yi said, "Nothing special, just had some free time today and came to see you."
Mute Uncle had a look of being sickened by the sweetness.
Then he typed on his phone, "I am very well!"
After speaking, he added, "There’s food in the kitchen; help yourself!"
Feng Yi wasn’t shy and went straight to the kitchen, where he saw two dinner plates and a bamboo basket on the table.
Feng Yi lifted the cover protecting the food from mosquitoes and insects and checked the items. The plates were filled with various pancakes, and the bamboo basket contained bowl cakes. These were local homemade pastries, which even the elderly could bite into without much effort.
The food was very fresh and must have been brought back by Mute Uncle in the morning.
Feng Yi took a new plate, used bamboo tongs to pick up some food from each dish, and carried the plate out, planning to share with Mute Uncle.
Mute Uncle waved his hand, indicating that Feng Yi should just eat on his own. He wasn’t like Feng Yi — he couldn’t eat that much!
Mute Uncle typed on his phone, "Went out to play cards this morning, my card-playing buddies gave these to me. I’m not interested in this stuff; you just clear the plate."
As he said that, he also brewed a pot of tea with spring water and placed it on the nearby tea table for Feng Yi to drink and eat at his leisure.
Then Mute Uncle settled back into his recliner and took out his phone to play games.
Feng Yi was long accustomed to Mute Uncle’s temperament, so he didn’t feel awkward. He comfortably held a plate of pastries, munching on them while strolling around the courtyard.
The mansion retained scents of other people, and Feng Yi was able to deduce past events that happened here from these aromas.
Knowing that relatives had come here to cause trouble, although Feng Yi had been watching this place, he was still worried there might be things he hadn’t noticed.
However, judging from the scents here, Mute Uncle was not short of help, and people often came to do work for them.
Mute Uncle had money and was generous with his payments. The youngsters living up on Xiao Feng Mountain and in the nearby foothills were particularly willing to take on jobs from Mute Uncle.
With Mute Uncle living alone in such a large estate, going out to play mahjong and often gaming at home, the mansion was very clean. It was evident that people often tended to it. It wasn’t likely that Mute Uncle was doing it all by himself; getting people in to tidy up was routine.
Feng Yi had once been in that well-hidden chamber and there was no need to worry about someone coming in to clean and discovering something they shouldn’t. After the Feng Family shrine in Yang City was moved, due to the renovation and maintenance here, there were always people coming and going. But precisely because Mute Uncle often hired help to maintain the house, this attitude actually made others less suspicious that there were any other secrets here.
While analyzing the scent information of the place, Feng Yi didn’t stop eating. Since Mute Uncle knew his secret and was aware of his appetite, there was no need for him to hold back here.
The flowerbeds in the courtyard weren’t arranged with any particular ambiance in mind, but the plants weren’t left to grow wildly either. Some of the space was used for growing vegetables, and the row of onions was doing quite well.
Having finished the food on his plate, Feng Yi was about to return to the kitchen to take care of the rest, fulfilling Mute Uncle’s request to clear the plate, but he took a few steps then turned back.
Feng Yi looked at a stone staircase on the side of the courtyard.
It was just a staircase built from various stones combined with concrete.
He hadn’t noticed it on his previous visits, but this time Feng Yi spotted a small detail on the staircase.
Among those stones making up the steps, there was one "outsider."
A meteorite?
Because that stone was not very large and stone steps were common around there, nobody would pay attention to anything unusual about that stone.
Only after Feng Yi had purchased a meteorite at an auction and then researched information related to meteorites, combined with his ability to differentiate substances, was he able to discern the slight differences. This stone was either from a long time ago or had recently fallen from the sky.
However, unlike the meteorite he auctioned, this one did not contain any energy substances.
Feng Yi looked towards Mute Uncle.
While Mute Uncle was gaming, his mouth hadn’t stopped moving. Feng Yi suspected that if Mute Uncle could speak, he’d probably be cursing all the way through the game.
Just as he finished another round and looked up to see Feng Yi standing in the courtyard,
His expression read, "Oh, you’re here. I almost forgot about you."
Feng Yi: "..."
Seeing Mute Uncle about to start a new game, Feng Yi quickly spoke up, "Uncle, is that stone a meteorite?"
Mute Uncle, upon hearing this, looked towards where Feng Yi was pointing at the steps, thought for a moment, and nodded.
Then he typed on his phone, "It is a meteorite, been there for many years. Suddenly fell from the sky and smashed my chicken coop. I’m not interested in stones, I wanted to hand it over, but it was deemed of no scientific value after appraisal, so I used it as a step in the staircase."
