Chapter 396: Chapter 286 Zodiac Spending_2
After cleaning up the bits of grass he had gnawed off, Qian Feiyang continued,
"At first, when I saw it nibbling on the grass mat frequently, I thought there was a problem with its mouth. I suspected there might be something wrong with its teeth and took it to the pet hospital, but the doctor said it was fine. It might just be an individual specific behavior, a kind of fetish."
Saying this, Qian Feiyang somewhat relieved, "It seems it can still distinguish between people and the grass mat. When it bit you, it was just putting on a show to scare you; it didn’t really use force."
The superficial marks could be ignored.
Feng Yi: "...Uh-huh."
The two chatted about renting the apartment for a bit longer. A long-term rental wasn’t just a short-term stay, and even if they got along well, some things still needed to be made clear for both parties to feel at ease.
After reaching an agreement, Feng Yi said he’d go back and check to see if there was any material he had overlooked and not moved yet.
Feng Yi had planned to join in tidying up, but hearing that Feng Yi was looking for documents, Qian Feiyang suggested he would come over later. Documents were generally important files, relating to personal privacy; it was better to avoid them for the time being.
Leaving Qian Feiyang’s place, Feng Yi returned to his own high-rise apartment.
Of course, he wasn’t back to collect documents; the important ones had already been packed and moved elsewhere last year.
He was here now only to make some minor alterations.
After walking around the apartment, Feng Yi stopped at the entrance where the floor tiles were laid.
He crouched down, and the bones at the tips of his fingers transformed into claw-like shapes, leaving a long scratch on the floor tile.
He hadn’t controlled his strength properly and had scratched a bit too deeply.
Besides the entrance, Feng Yi left similar scratches in less noticeable places like the windowsill and balcony.
These claw marks carried certain information substances, which would last longer.
The information substance Feng Yi left behind was a warning message.
He wasn’t going to live here, renting it to Qian Feiyang, in case rats got in, so he did some rodent-proofing work.
It was like wild animals marking their territory, though he wasn’t sure how effective it would be.
Without any rats to test it on, whether it would keep them away was unclear.
However, Feng Yi believed that the "barrier" he had drawn today should be effective.
An hour later, Qian Feiyang came over to join Feng Yi in cleaning up the apartment and further discussed the details concerning the rental.
In fact, Feng Yi didn’t care much about the details; it was Qian Feiyang who was more concerned.
In the evening, Feng Yi, Wu Ji, and Qian Feiyang went out for dinner together at a newly opened restaurant not far from the residential area. Wu Ji and Qian Feiyang had eaten there before and said the food was good. It was close to home and there was no need to drive, so they could enjoy a little drink.
They booked a private room, ate, and chatted, discussing each other’s experiences and career developments throughout the year, talking about friends and family, and all sorts of miscellaneous gossip from the past and present, ranging from ecological environment to political economy, and from mundane life to international situations.
By the time the dinner ended, it was about ten o’clock at night.
"How did you get here?" Wu Ji, a bit tipsy, asked, then remembered, "Oh right, you rode your bike, cycling from Yue Mountain to downtown—you’re pretty awesome for that!"
Now that he had been drinking, it was even less possible to let Feng Yi cycle back.
Qian Feiyang offered to Feng Yi, "I’ll get you a rideshare."
Wu Ji waved his hand dismissively, "What do you need a rideshare for, just stay here overnight! I have a guest room at my place!"
Feng Yi laughed, "No need, I’ve called for a ride. You guys go ahead; my car will be here soon."
Staying over wasn’t an option; what if he got confused in his sleep and reverted to his original form? Not only would it scare people, but what if he got excited and cracked the floorboards?
Wu Ji and Qian Feiyang didn’t leave and stood by the roadside with Feng Yi, waiting for his ride.
As expected, within a short conversation, the car arrived.
Watching Feng Yi get into the car, Wu Ji glanced at the impressive stretch vehicle and muttered to Qian Feiyang beside him, "Are rideshares this fancy now?"
Qian Feiyang looked at him as if he were an idiot.
Wu Ji’s mind finally caught up, and he slapped his forehead, "Oh, it’s specially here to pick him up!"
But to send a person with such a vehicle? It felt more over the top than celebrity nanny vans on TV!
Were they here to pick someone up or to haul goods?
Alternatively, perhaps that was the only car Feng Yi had with him since he had just been on a mission in the mountains, and he must have carried a lot of stuff with him.
Yep, that had to be it!
Convinced they had figured it out, the two headed back to their residential area.
Meanwhile, Feng Yi was sitting in the back seat of the car.
Although he had drunk quite a lot that night, he wasn’t feeling drunk, or rather, any slight drunkenness he might have felt had subsided, and the alcohol was completely metabolized.
He opened the adjacent car window halfway.
The night breeze entered, bringing with it the various scents of living and non-living things from around the city.
Outside, the streetlights shone through, casting flickering shadows inside the vehicle as they were distorted by the changing angles of light and obstructions while the car moved.
Feng Yi looked out the window.
His pupils suddenly contracted to a point, and unseen information substances emitted from his body, flowing out of the window.
In the driver’s seat, Jia gripped the steering wheel tightly, and every hair on his body seemed to stand on end while a chill ran down his spine.
This sudden alertness was like having a ferocious prehistoric beast open its mouth next to him, revealing sharp fangs and a gaping maw.
Thankfully, this "prehistoric beast" merely yawned and didn’t show any real aggression.
Jia took a light, deep breath to settle his nerves and calm down.
He thought to himself: My goodness, what is the boss up to?
Was he revealing his emotions because of the alcohol?
He’s not going to suddenly change back into his original form, is he?!
Fortunately, the car they had taken was modified, so even if the boss transformed in the back seat, it could take it as long as he stayed quiet.
