Chapter 356: Chapter 260 Is it poison?_2
After handing those two over to the law enforcement officers, Feng Yi didn’t inquire further. The investigation was a matter for the relevant law enforcement agents and the Joint Security Bureau, and all he needed to do was wait for the results.
In the intervals of cooperating with the investigation, Feng Yi took the time to continue writing his report.
The "Little Koi" was placed by him into a clean box, simply waiting for the zoo director to come and retrieve it.
Over at the Yang City sub-bureau of the Joint Security Bureau, Wei Hongxun and another investigator were dispatched.
When Wei Hongxun arrived, Feng Yi was staring at his computer with a gloomy expression.
As they were all acquainted, Wei Hongxun did not put on the formal, stern face he usually wore.
"What’s going on here?" Wei Hongxun asked with a smile as he approached.
"Grinding out a mission report," Feng Yi closed his computer, "So, how is it going, have you figured out the situation yet?"
"We have a preliminary understanding," Wei Hongxun nodded, "You mentioned that Wen Suolin might be involved in some major cases?"
Feng Yi: "You know I’m very sensitive to the smell of snakes, and he had the scent of a python on him, an adult one."
Wei Hongxun: "The evidence isn’t sufficient. He is, after all, a python researcher, so it’s reasonable for him to carry the scent of pythons."
Feng Yi: "No, it’s not a good scent, a personal intuition. You can use this incident to thoroughly check him out."
Knowing Feng Yi’s talent in such matters, Wei Hongxun did not think Feng Yi was speaking nonsense.
"Alright, we will investigate further."
"Oh, I almost forgot." Feng Yi slapped his forehead.
He almost forgot one piece of evidence that he meant to report.
"This is a recording I made after I confronted Wen Suolin. It’s not very clear, but make do and listen."
Feng Yi played the audio recorded on his phone for Wei Hongxun.
It contained Wen Suolin’s words when he tried to bribe and flip him.
Wei Hongxun’s expression turned serious.
"There’s no need for doubts now, he’s definitely involved in some major cases. Send me this recording, and I’ll have someone retrieve and analyze it."
Wei Hongxun originally wanted to praise Feng Yi for resisting the allure of money, but as he was about to speak, he recalled Feng Yi’s words in the recording "I’m quite wealthy," and his face twitched, causing him to keep the commendation to himself.
After securing the recording, he intended to share it with other law enforcement officers investigating this case.
Wei Hongxun suspected that Wen Suolin, this individual, might well be involved with an illegal breeding organization.
The person caught previously by Feng Yi, who attempted to flee with the money, revealed their intended delivery location to them. That place was situated near the border, indeed a sensitive location. They planned to combine all gathered information and collaborate with the border investigation team for an in-depth inquiry.
"When law enforcement went to check the rented house after receiving your message, they found a seriously ill and comatose person. He was the accomplice of the man you previously captured, and the two of them planned this python theft," Wei Hongxun said.
"Mm," Feng Yi responded, waiting for the rest of Wei Hongxun’s story.
"The patient has now been admitted to the hospital for treatment and is still in a coma. We learned that he fell into a coma after being bitten by a snake, specifically this little python." Wei Hongxun pointed to the translucent box holding the python next to him.
Feng Yi raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Are you saying it’s poisonous?"
Wei Hongxun spread his hands, "At first we didn’t believe it either, but then the law enforcement officers traced it to Wen Suolin’s bodyguard, who was also bitten by this little python, and he is currently being treated, in a state of confusion. He received timely medical attention, so there is no life-threatening danger, but from the wound on his hand, it’s almost certain that he was bitten by this little python."
Feng Yi was genuinely surprised, "Has it mutated to develop poison glands?"
Wei Hongxun shook his head, "It’s not an issue of poison glands or venom, but rather a bacterial infection, possibly its... mouth isn’t very clean."
Feng Yi recalled. When he found the little python, he hadn’t noticed whether its teeth were clean; he only remembered it flicking its tongue out happily.
Wei Hongxun: "According to our information, this little python was taken from Yang City Zoo, and throughout the entire process, it wasn’t fed anything and was kept in a box."
Feng Yi: "Are you suggesting it picked up some sort of bacteria at the zoo?"
Wei Hongxun: "Just a suspicion, we need to wait for the investigation results to know for sure."
----
"It’s absolutely impossible!"
The Zoo Director insisted emphatically upon arrival at the small county town:
"Our zoo’s reptile house would never feed it unclean food!"
"’Little Koi,’ the one living in the glass enclosure, was monitored by cameras. Its living environment and every feeding session are all recorded by the cameras!"
"Moreover, the feeder mice it eats are supplied by a reliable vendor, and the other little pythons eat the same. There’s another one with a temperamental disposition who bit a staff member not long ago. That minor injury wasn’t even given any attention by the staff, who treated it simply and was completely fine! It certainly wouldn’t lead to serious illness as you’ve described!"
The Zoo Director cleared the name of his establishment.
Wei Hongxun: "Whether it is or isn’t, since this fact exists, an investigation will definitely be conducted."
They will investigate the living environment of the python at the zoo, its diet, and they will also take samples from its mouth to analyze those bacteria that cause wound infection and increase the difficulty of treatment.
While Wei Hongxun was saying this, he was also giving Feng Yi and the people at the zoo a heads-up to be careful not to get bitten when handling "Little Koi."
If bitten, send for medical attention immediately.
"Little Koi" was finally brought back to Yang City Zoo.
However, it wasn’t immediately placed back into its previous location.
No matter if it’s poisonous or not, being taken out and brought back requires quarantine isolation.
To prevent transmitting parasites or some diseases to other snakes.
When Steve came to the news, "Little Koi" in quarantine was swallowing a pinkie mouse.
Seeing it gobble down food, Steve said with a distressed look on his face,
"The wee one has suffered! Just look at how hungry it was outside!"
Feng Yi thought: It’s only been taken out for a day, with the snake’s feeding frequency and its ability to withstand hunger, how much could it possibly suffer?
Speaking of the mastermind behind this python theft incident, Steve said indignantly, "I’ve always felt that Wen Suolin was no good! Yet others always accuse me of being jealous of my senior!"
The case is still under investigation, and as an expert from the Joint Preservation Bureau, Steve requested and was permitted to visit Wen Suolin in prison.
Steve mainly wanted to scold him.
He couldn’t get it out of his system unless he gave him a good scolding!
Over the years, whenever he ran into Wen Suolin, his attitude was never that good.
But Wen Suolin was a senior with a reputation in research circles.
Therefore, to others, every time Steve showed him a cold shoulder, they thought Steve was too arrogant, showing no respect for an elder.
Having felt wronged for so many years, Wen Suolin finally exposed his true nature!
Upon seeing Wen Suolin, Steve let loose a barrage of insults and also expressed his disdain for Wen Suolin’s hiring someone to steal the python.
Wen Suolin insisted that he did no wrong: "In my hands, it will realize its greatest value! And not just be a mere ornamental pet in a zoo!"
Steve: "In your eyes, is the ultimate value breeding continuously and then being flayed and dissected?"
Steve knew that the organizations that breed illegally for genetic research were incredibly cruel to pythons.
He disapproved of Wen Suolin’s methods. The thought of so many innocent little creatures losing their lives made him all the more heartbroken.
Luckily, Feng Yi caught the guy!
Then, Steve started praising Feng Yi profusely, stepping all over Wen Suolin.
Wen Suolin looked at Steve with a strange gaze and then chuckled lowly, "Do you think Feng Yi is really a good person?"
Steve didn’t like to hear him speak ill of Feng Yi.
Sure, the young man had his shortcomings, but in Steve’s eyes, Feng Yi had already done exceptionally well.
Wen Suolin: "You say I lack compassion and care for the snakes? Heh, does Feng Yi have any?"
Steve: "Feng Yi is a good kid!"
Wen Suolin: "What gave you such a false impression? I tell you, Feng Yi is terrifying! I guarantee it with my decades of experience!"
Steve didn’t believe him; he thought his intuition was still very reliable.
For instance, his first impression of Wen Suolin years ago was that he didn’t like him at all, he had an innate aversion, and felt that the man exuded an aura that was repulsive to him.
But his first impression of Feng Yi was one of closeness and joy, and hence, he took extra care of this junior.
Steve thought, Wen Suolin is really despicable, already locked up and still trying to smear Feng Yi.
"Isn’t it just because Feng Yi was the one who sent you here? You spiteful thing!"
Wen Suolin: "...Idiot! Brains full of shit!"
Steve argued with him for a while longer, then returned to the zoo. Just in time, he saw Feng Yi helping to move a sea snake and was even laughing and chatting with the staff at the reptile house.
Steve couldn’t help but smile.
Such a fine young man!
Wen Suolin not doing any good himself yet slandering Feng Yi, what a filthy heart!
