Closer to Revealing My True Self -
Chapter 319 - 239: Opening the Python Box_1
Chapter 319: Chapter 239: Opening the Python Box_1
Feng Yi made his choice so quickly that it surprised everyone.
Generally, after being informed of all the possibilities, guests would carefully consider and observe, analyzing various aspects such as the shape and color of the snake eggs before making their final choice.
Seeing everyone looking at him, Feng Yi said, "I had already visited the incubation room while Steve was recording the show."
Everyone understood then; since he had already visited the incubation room and observed these python eggs, making a quick decision now was not a problem.
The director gestured, and someone brought out the prepared questions to ask Feng Yi:
"Why did you choose this egg?"
Everyone thought that Feng Yi, the expert certified by the conservation association, would provide a detailed analysis based on the egg itself.
Then they heard:
"I touched it before."
"...You can recognize it just by touch? Their current arrangement isn’t the same as in the incubation room," a member of the production team said.
"Mm, I can recognize it."
"Out of several eggs in the box, why did you only touch that one?"
"Because it was the closest to my hand at that time."
The person who had taken Feng Yi to the incubation room recalled carefully: At that time, Feng Yi reached out his hand, hovered it over the eggs for a while, and then touched the one under his palm. That seemed to be the case, but something felt off.
However, whether Feng Yi’s choice was made for these reasons or not wasn’t important.
"Do you have a particular genetic lineage you like? What kind of color pattern do you hope to see when it hatches?"
Feng Yi thought about it, and he didn’t pursue these things - he just wanted to take this opportunity to try raising a snake. He had no preference for colors, and if pressed, he would opt for the natural color of wild snakes. He always thought those fancy patterns were too delicate.
He didn’t need to please anyone and said what he was thinking directly.
"I prefer the natural colors."
The zoo director, who had just finished dealing with some matters and rushed over, just caught Feng Yi’s words and his smile faltered slightly.
He didn’t care how many genes were stacked on a python, since no matter how many genes were added, they couldn’t be sold publicly and were only to be let loose in the zoo.
But!
The color must be distinctive! It has to be distinguishable to the layman!
Most visitors won’t be interested if it’s close to the natural color!
There are plenty of natural-colored reticulated pythons!
Size?
That would be a concern decades later!
For the current stage and for several years to come, what visitors look at is beauty! Distinctiveness! That uniqueness!
There are still more people afraid of snakes in the world, and their fear of the natural color series is deeper.
For example, put a six-meter reticulated python of the wild type natural pattern next to a leucistic golden reticulated python, which one do the general public find more acceptable?
Definitely the latter!
The former looks too fierce.
Moreover, this batch of eggs was bought back by him from the base, and he handpicked each one. It was painful enough that some couldn’t be hatched, and if there were more close to the natural color, it could make him cry from the loss!
No matter what everyone else was thinking, Feng Yi had made his choice, and he showed no willingness to change it.
The production team marked that egg.
Feng Yi stepped back, yielding his place.
It was Steve’s turn, but he wasn’t able to make a quick decision like Feng Yi.
No matter which egg, he looked at it with the eyes of a loving parent.
It was too hard!
Excluding the one Feng Yi had chosen, there were still five left!
He liked every single one!
"Ooh..."
A man well over a meter eighty, Steve showed his struggle even with a whimper.
But people’s hearts do lean in certain directions.
Only able to pick one out of five, Steve made his choice after careful observation and analysis.
"This one," he said.
Feng Yi gave him a thumbs-up.
As expected of an expert, his insight is strong!
The one Steve chose, it had the strongest life signals. Even without artificial aid like egg cutting, the little snake inside would hatch successfully.
When asked "Why did you choose this one?" Steve provided a more professional explanation.
"So, Steve, what kind of color pattern do you like?" asked the production staff member.
"I’m fine with anything! I don’t mind the genetic lineage, I think, on them, no matter what kind of genes, there’s a beautiful side, and in my eyes, there’s no such thing as ordinary or high-priced genes. I don’t pursue complex genes. To me, each one is unique in the world!"
Such words, if spoken by someone else, might seem hypocritical and contrived, but people who knew Steve understood that’s just the way he was.
Even the green anaconda, which looks terrifying to others, seemed cute and naive to him; his filter was thicker than city walls!
To Steve, every genetically-bred reticulated python was beautiful, no matter what genes it carried or what its color pattern was – he always found their beauty.
The production staff made a different mark on that egg.
"Alright, next we’ll ask the teacher from the zoo’s incubation room to come over for the ’Python Box Six-Unboxing’ segment!"
"Which one should we cut first?"
"Let’s start with the four unmarked ones. We’ll cut Feng Yi’s and Steve’s last."
The production team had already adjusted the cameras.
"Okay, shall we start?" The egg cutter looked toward the director, who was the real boss there.
"Begin," said the director.
If it weren’t for the filming of the show, they would have finished opening this batch of eggs yesterday.
The director was also nervous, silently praying: Please don’t be close to natural colors!
Steve was nervous as well.
He might find beauty in every snake, but when it comes to affection, it isn’t something one can control.
Could the emotional investment be the same for a snake he fed himself versus one fed by others?
He was only a common man after all.
