Chapter 213: Chapter 171: It Draws the _1

This time entering the swamp, the original plan was to prioritize rest during the first three nights and to search during the nights of the last two days if nothing was discovered during the initial period. The swamp is different at night from during the day, and there might be new discoveries to be made.

This was their third day in the swamp, and the previous two days hadn’t yielded much satisfaction. According to the plan, they would intensify the night search starting tomorrow evening.

The temperature was a bit cooler at night, but not cold. Feng Yi had originally thought that not many snakes would be active at these temperatures at night. However, it turned out his luck was good, and there were quite a few gluttonous pythons, with the owner of this particular scent being a giant glutton.

The trip was proving to be worthwhile.

The scent carried on the wind was a bit unfamiliar, but at the same time, Feng Yi was sure it was a snake, and a large python at that.

Maybe even bigger than any he had caught before.

If he could catch it, it would be a great achievement, and he could consider withdrawing from the competition early.

Although the scent was somewhat domineering, it wasn’t dangerous to Feng Yi. His instincts didn’t perceive any danger, and he even felt a bit excited, especially his stomach.

Having just eaten compressed biscuits and gulped down a bottle of water, he felt even hungrier, as if his appetite had opened up.

His teeth itched a bit too. He hadn’t ground his teeth since entering the swamp, and now in his state of excitement, they began to itch again.

Feng Yi shouldered his backpack.

After thinking it over, he decided not to call Steve.

He would only hinder him.

Some scenes shouldn’t be witnessed by others.

Following the scent, Feng Yi walked on, eating another piece of compressed biscuit out of boredom.

Eat more, to have the strength for the work ahead.

Nibbling on the compressed biscuit, he walked towards the direction from where the scent was coming. His demeanor was as if he was out for a leisurely stroll, presumably enjoying it greatly.

Over the past two days, Feng Yi and Steve had visited the Boze area and caught some pythons, but there were many crocodiles there that limited their movement. The place they had stopped tonight wasn’t far from Boze, and the plan tomorrow was to go somewhere else.

Lucky they hadn’t left.

If they had, they wouldn’t have encountered this big cutie tonight.

The swamp at night is when the large predators come out. It’s a dangerous time, especially near the water.

For the average person, Feng Yi’s current location was quite dangerous, close to where the crocodiles were. If attacked, there would be no time for rescue.

There were a lot of mosquitoes around.

They could be genetically modified, or not.

Whether they were genetically modified or not, these insects wouldn’t come too close to Feng Yi.

In the pitch-dark night, Feng Yi didn’t turn on his flashlight, which didn’t hinder his ability to see clearly all around him.

His pupils narrowed into slender lines, and his olfactory system was at work, making the whole world visible to him. Everything, whether exposed or hidden in corners, conveyed information with the evening breeze.

The mist grew thicker, which would normally be a signal for most people to turn back immediately and not proceed further. Staying away from the water’s edge would be the smart choice.

But Feng Yi wasn’t afraid.

He could sense some eyes watching him, but he didn’t pay them any attention.

Alligators surfaced, showing only their eyes and nostrils.

If Feng Yi now used his flashlight, it wouldn’t be hard to spot them.

Their eyes would reflect light.

Steve had tried it before; a shine of light and there were many pairs of glowing eyes on the water surface. The size of the crocodiles could be estimated from these shining eyes.

There were quite a few large crocodiles.

But these were just the ones floating on the surface, who knows what ELSE lay beneath the water.

After passing through dense undergrowth and skirting several water holes, there was a pond ahead.

There were crocodiles in the pond too. Without the need for a flashlight, Feng Yi could smell them and pinpoint their exact locations.

Feng Yi looked towards a spot where a crocodile was floating on the surface, and not far from it, a long figure was swimming towards it.

Feng Yi sped up, tossing his backpack aside and rushing towards the pond.

As he stepped into the pond, prepared to intercept the long figure, he slipped and plunged into the water.

Feng Yi: "..."

Shit!

He had stepped on something and lost his balance.

The water at the edge of the pond wasn’t too deep, and Feng Yi quickly stood up after falling, rapidly stripping off his boots and tossing them onto the bank.

The boots were not as practical as the scales on his feet.

And at the moment Feng Yi turned around, a figure suddenly shot out of the water.

While throwing his boots, Feng Yi had already sensed the rapidly approaching strong intent to attack and boundless malice.

Water sprayed, carrying the fishy smell of the pond and a chill, which in the darkness of the night seemed even more horrifying.

Underneath his scales, his muscles were like moving steel, confronting him with the oncoming menace.

Feng Yi reached out his hand, and grasped.

Remarkably, though his hand couldn’t fully encircle its neck, he managed to hold the massive head steady in front of him.

A gaping mouth capable of engulfing Feng Yi’s whole head opened just a palm’s width from him, its sharp teeth startlingly close.

The chilling hissing sound seemed especially sinister in the night.

Such a big breath!

Feng Yi stared at the python in front of him. He didn’t know which species it was, and judging by the scent, it was likely a hybrid python, not one documented by the research center.

It was highly aggressive and had a bit of a temper.

And judging by its size, it could swallow a normal adult whole.

A python over 6 meters was already a grave threat to an adult and could show signs of active aggression and intention to swallow.

And this one was definitely over six meters!
