Chapter 206: Chapter 168: You’ve Been Exposed_1
Steve and Feng Yi split up to search for pythons, but they kept in touch the whole time.
The target area was too vast, and the time they spent searching was uncertain. If they were lucky, they could find a python rather quickly; if not, they might search all day without success. They would traverse longer distances, which meant that if an emergency occurred, it wouldn’t be easy to immediately know the other’s situation. Besides, they had GPS and location sharing, so they could roughly tell where the other was.
"You could look for shed snake skin. If you find any, then the python is definitely nearby. I’m not having much luck over here, haven’t found any large python skin sheddings. How about you?" Steve asked.
"I haven’t made any significant discoveries here either," Feng Yi said nonchalantly, poking around the grass and branches with a stick in his hand.
He actually had no need for these tools, but he had to keep up appearances and not seem too out of the ordinary.
His backpack also contained a folded snake hook, which was for dealing with venomous snakes. Even though Feng Yi himself didn’t need it, he had to act the part, or lend it to someone else when necessary.
When no one else was around, these tools were nothing more than props.
Feng Yi walked barefoot, with his shoes in one hand and socks stuffed inside them, as his feet tread upon the grassy ground.
The branches around him grew freely and wildly without human trimming, not accommodating any clear paths. Hence, some people would bring knives or other tools to forge a way through.
Feng Yi rolled up his sleeves, letting the smooth or sharp branches scrape against his arms. His bare feet walked across the forest floor, and though the grass’s serrated margins sliced at the skin on his feet, they didn’t leave a scratch or even a mark.
The wild swamp was like a jungle where the plants seemed almost aggressive, potentially injuring any unprotected person who dared to intrude, causing them to bleed profusely. But for Feng Yi, this level of wildness was far from dangerous; it was more akin to a massage.
He walked forward leisurely under the sunshine.
Underneath the sunglasses, his pupils narrowed into fine lines then dilated again.
In Feng Yi’s vision, the world was split in two: one was the world as seen by ordinary people, and the other was a world composed of olfactory molecules and pheromones, among other things.
In this latter world, the scents given off by various organisms and inanimate objects were marked by different colors, filling every corner from the vast sky to the back of each leaf.
A world made up of vibrating particles of different colors; although it seemed chaotic, it vibrated with a vivacity that the most talented artist couldn’t replicate.
Feng Yi, who had entered this realm, was like a predator with a keen sense of smell and lethal prowess, searching for his target.
Steve’s voice came through again: "Hold on, I’ve found something! I’ll check it out and get back to you."
Feng Yi responded, "I’ve just found something here too."
Steve wanted to ask, "What exactly did you find?" but thought the question a bit redundant. Feng Yi had only mentioned a minor discovery, not confirmed finding something significant.
Moreover, with a major discovery on his hands, Steve was too excited to bother with much else; he knew Feng Yi could be unpredictable, but the young man could certainly take care of himself.
"Okay, just stay safe, and hit the emergency contact if you need to."
"Understood."
Feng Yi kept moving forward.
He caught a python that was hiding under the thick underbrush.
It had been sunbathing when it felt someone approaching, so it attempted to crawl toward the trees. Unfortunately, its escape was not swift enough, and eventually, Feng Yi pulled it out.
This python was much larger than the ones he had caught the previous day. Feng Yi estimated it was about 4 meters long, maybe just a bit less but not by much.
This length barely qualified as a giant python, far from the extreme specimens they were searching for.
But Feng Yi couldn’t just let it go to grow further.
While he was searching for this python, it was identified by its olfactory molecules as a Burmese python, not a hybrid.
Even if he took it back, it would be treated much better than the hybrids due to its relatively milder temperament and lack of strong aggressiveness. When it sensed someone approaching, its first reaction was to flee rather than remaining hidden in the undergrowth, ready to launch a surprise attack.
Holding the snake’s head, Feng Yi sat down on the grass and set his backpack down, pulling out a snake bag from it.
There were various sizes of bags, and Feng Yi only brought one of the largest size.
The capacity of the backpack was limited, so to avoid standing out, he carried as many tools as others did. However, once he transported the snake to the boat, he could take another large-sized bag from a storage box on board.
Warren’s boat served as their supply point, where they could replenish what they used up.
In reality, he could pack two more large-sized fabric bags if he wanted, but Feng Yi hadn’t brought that much spare space.
He filled all the leftover space with compressed biscuits.
When Feng Yi pulled out the cloth bag from his backpack, the snake he was holding had already wrapped its body around him.
For anyone else, they would have been strangled to the point of struggling to breathe, and the hand gripping the snake might not even have enough strength.
However, Feng Yi firmly held the snake’s head, with no change in his breathing rhythm. His other hand opened the bag then casually unwound the snake from his body and put it into the bag.
