Chapter 180: Chapter 150: Snake’s Nest_1

Although he did not know the composition of the venom, looking at those two chickens, it was likely not heavy metal poisoning. If heavy metals accumulated in the bones, they would have turned significantly black, but while the two chickens were darker, they weren’t the kind of black associated with heavy metal poisoning. The specific active components and the performance of the venom would have to be discussed after the doctor arrived. For the time being, Feng Yi dared not take any risks experimenting further.

Seeing Bing’s cautious manner when cooking, Feng Yi feared inadvertently harming others. Just as Bing had said, without an antidote, being poisoned would be the end.

As for the texture of the meat, Bing mentioned that the cooking process was the same as before, but the chicken turned out excessively tender. The vastly experienced Bing did not need to taste it; just by picking it up with chopsticks, he could tell.

Bing felt it was due to improper cooking techniques and told Feng Yi that he would make adjustments the next time they cooked chicken poisoned like this.

However, Feng Yi thought that regardless of the adjustments, the chicken meat cooked with the venom would always end up much softer than that cooked with ordinary methods.

Besides killing prey, venom has another function—digestion.

In nature, some poisonous snakes, after biting their prey and successfully injecting venom, if the prey escapes, the digestive enzymes in their venom start to work inside the prey’s body as they follow the scent to track it down.

Reflecting on the texture of those two chickens, it was clear to Feng Yi that his own venom also had a certain digestive function and even more so, he felt that the longer the chickens had been poisoned, the softer and mushier their flesh became.

Continuing this train of thought, if his digestive functions were poor, might he one day evolve venom with a stronger digestive ability?

Even to the point of turning food into a puddle of mush?

Feng Yi wore a somber expression.

It would be better not to evolve this function excessively—it was rather terrifying.

Putting aside the issue of the venom for the moment, Feng Yi made a list of plans for himself. It was urgent to improve the laboratory and bring over the doctor as soon as possible for safety, to develop an antidote. Otherwise, those around him, including Bing, Zhou San, and the butler, lived with a daily risk. Even if they were not afraid, Feng Yi was worried. What if he accidentally injured them?

Of course, he must continue to save his daily venom.

Didn’t the research he looked up say so? With technological advancements, snake venom zipped past snake gallbladders, its research value now surpassing that of gold!

While Feng Yi was browsing through a catalog provided by an equipment company, his phone received a new message. Bai Lu had left him a message on the chat software, asking if Feng Yi would be home tomorrow and if he had the time. If Feng Yi was free, Bai Lu wanted to bring over a few new dishes from his family’s restaurant and also take a look at the fish in Feng Yi’s koi pond.

Feng Yi was aware that Bai Lu was interested in the koi. If it hadn’t been too late on the day they went fishing, Bai Lu would have wanted to see them, having them on his mind ever since.

Feng Yi replied that he would be home and invited him to come over.

Shortly after, Bai Lu replied that he would come with Mo Xiaoguang, who also wanted to catch a couple of koi to keep.

Whether one person or two was coming made no difference to Feng Yi. Once here, they would only have access to certain areas, and allowing them upstairs was out of the question.

After replying to Bai Lu, Feng Yi notified the others in the house to make some preparations, particularly Bing. Some things in the kitchen were not to be seen by outsiders, such as the gas masks that looked like they were for protection against biochemical weapons. It was better to hide those, lest they raise suspicions about them doing something illegal at home.

Guests might not go into the kitchen, but being cautious was always good. They also needed to tidy up the rest of the house.

But as for areas outside the kitchen, those were under the butler’s care, which Feng Yi did not need to worry about. The old man was very reliable.

The next day, Bai Lu and Mo Xiaoguang arrived around noon. In the morning, Bai Lu had sent Feng Yi a message saying they had some matters to attend to and would be a bit late, but they would make it for lunch.

The new dishes from Bai Lu’s family restaurant were sent over before they arrived.

When Bai Lu and Mo Xiaoguang arrived, Feng Yi noticed that Mo Xiaoguang looked much more haggard than he had two days before, with deep dark circles under his eyes as if he were suffering from severe sleep deprivation, though he still appeared to be in good spirits.

Concerned, Feng Yi asked, "What’s the matter? Didn’t sleep well?"

"Ah, don’t even mention it."

Mo Xiaoguang wiped his face, took the teacup Bing handed him, and gulped down two sips before continuing, "Ever since that midnight python encounter while fishing at the resort, to the snakes I saw at Tang Kui’s factory, my fear hasn’t diminished—in fact, it’s gotten worse! I tried to confront the psychological shadow, but the fear clings too tightly."

Mo Xiaoguang had enjoyed fishing during the day, but lying in bed at night, it wasn’t the scenes of fishing that came to mind but those venomous snakes at Tang Kui’s! The frightening creatures called ’Zhou San’ Cobras!

Mo Xiaoguang didn’t understand why he could vividly recall the patterns of those snakes in his mind—they kept replaying!

Even though he had not made any effort to remember them!

He was afraid to even look at them more than once!

The mind, it always retains what shouldn’t be remembered!

The things we fear the most are what we remember the clearest!

That night, Mo Xiaoguang wore headphones and listened to upbeat music, struggling for an hour or two to fall asleep, and finally dozed off in a daze. But still!
