Chapter 842: Chapter 0842: Guessed Correctly
At exactly nine o’clock in the morning, the gates of Jinling’s Second Detention Center slowly opened. First, two police cars drove out in front, followed by two police cars carrying the bank robbers, and then another two police cars trailing behind.
The convoy left the Second Detention Center and headed along the main road toward the courthouse.
Along the way, the piercing ’wail wail’ of police sirens drew the attention of many vehicles and pedestrians on the road.
Ye Qiu and Zhao Ruxue finished their breakfast in a hurry and drove toward the Second Detention Center. When they arrived, they caught sight of the police convoy leaving the detention center and heading in the direction of the Jinling Intermediate Court.
However, Ye Qiu still hadn’t received a call from Cai Yong. It seemed that the men Cai Yong had sent out hadn’t found any suspicious individuals.
"Boss, target spotted!"
...
"Boss, the target is within 500 meters of our position!"
...
"Boss, less than 200 meters to the target!"
...
"Proceed as planned. Strike at the intersection ahead!"
Four sedans parked by the roadside at the intersection, their occupants fully aware that the police cars carrying Lao Jiu and his crew would soon arrive.
The eight people in the cars, wearing wireless earpieces, stared intently at the approaching police vehicles.
"Go now!"
Just as the two police cars at the front of the convoy cleared the way, other vehicles on the road either stopped or steered aside in deference to the flashing lights.
But unexpectedly, from the four directions of the intersection — east, south, west, and northwest — came four speeding vans that rammed straight into the leading and trailing police cars.
The vans were moving so fast that the drivers in the police cars barely had time to react before the collision occurred.
The windshield of one van shattered upon impact, but the rest of the vehicle seemed relatively unharmed.
"Lao Jiu, I’m here to get you out!"
The nine robbers in the police cars immediately guessed that their organization had sent people to rescue them as soon as they saw the vans ramming into the caravan.
Without hesitation, the rescuers climbed onto the two police cars and drove away in them.
The entire operation took less than fifteen minutes. By the time nearby police reinforcement units arrived, the robbers were already gone, speeding away in two commandeered police vehicles.
Ye Qiu and Zhao Ruxue, who had been discreetly trailing the convoy less than 100 meters behind, had sensed something was off moments before the ambush.
However, they never expected the attackers would be so ruthless, armed with AK-47s and automatic rifles.
If Ye Qiu and Zhao Ruxue had rushed in prematurely, it would have surely been a death sentence.
Even though Ye Qiu had the capability to incapacitate them temporarily, it would have required some time to execute.
"Ye Qiu, you were absolutely right!"
Zhao Ruxue said with admiration.
But being right wouldn’t change anything now.
Ye Qiu could only keep driving, chasing after the two police cars from behind, while Zhao Ruxue called the City Police Bureau to report the situation. She urgently informed them about the weapons the robbers had.
If they rushed in recklessly again, it would definitely lead to another disaster.
Under these circumstances, deploying military forces might be the only solution.
Up ahead, the two police cars sped forward, sirens blaring, weaving dangerously through city streets at speeds surpassing 100 km/h. The vehicles were now heading out of the city toward the rural outskirts.
Inside the commandeered police cars, the robbers threw out the law enforcement officers. They then freed their handcuffed comrades one by one.
"Boss, it’s so great to see you!"
Lao Jiu and his gang exclaimed excitedly.
"What’s the plan now?"
Daytime escape, even leaving the city, seemed nearly impossible.
"First, we get to the outskirts, then we split up to maximize our chances of getting away."
The robbers understood that if they continued driving the stolen police cars, they’d soon attract heavy police pursuit and blockades, making escape virtually impossible.
Yet, abandoning the cars immediately wasn’t an option either, as it would almost certainly result in their capture.
"Ye Qiu, they’re just ahead!"
Zhao Ruxue shouted.
They were the only ones chasing for now, while Zhao Ruxue had already informed the City Police Bureau, which was urgently planning its next move. For now, they just instructed Zhao Ruxue to keep pursuing the robbers.
"Don’t worry... It’s broad daylight. They won’t get far."
If it were nighttime, there might be a chance for the gang to escape.
But during daylight hours, Ye Qiu was confident they were at a disadvantage.
Unexpectedly, as the convoy reached the outskirts and headed toward rural roads, the two stolen police cars suddenly split up — one heading east and the other west.
"Ruxue, seems like they’re splitting up to escape!"
Understanding the diversion tactic, Ye Qiu knew he had no choice but to pick a direction to pursue. He hadn’t anticipated the complexity of their escape plans.
"We’ll have to pick one side!"
Ye Qiu said.
Initially, he planned to aid Zhao Ruxue in capturing all the robbers in one fell swoop, but now it seemed he could only chase down one group.
Even so, capturing one faction would likely earn Zhao Ruxue significant credit.
The stolen police car was impressive — a Toyota MPV model. Despite Ye Qiu driving a Mercedes-Benz in pursuit, the MPV’s engine power was formidable, making it difficult for Ye Qiu to keep pace.
