Chapter 807: Chapter 808: Xiao Hong’s Request for Help

Seated in the military vehicle, they arrived at the gates of the Jinling Military Hospital. Ye Qiu and Wu Shuang stepped off the car, followed by the elderly Mr. Cao and Cao Ling. Now, Cao Ling stayed to accompany Mr. Cao for some imaging tests.

Ye Qiu and Wu Shuang waited outside.

About thirty minutes later, Mr. Cao completed the detailed imaging tests. A chief physician at the military hospital reviewed the chest X-rays and identified a faint shadow in the left lung. If Ye Qiu hadn’t pointed it out, the other doctors performing the tests on Mr. Cao likely wouldn’t have noticed it.

The shadow was visible upon closer inspection, but it was still unclear what it could be.

"Sir, I can’t say for sure what it is for now, but it does appear to be a solid mass."

The chief physician looked at the X-ray as he spoke.

This proved that Ye Qiu’s earlier diagnosis was likely correct.

"Grandpa, it seems Dr. Ye really wasn’t wrong."

When Cao Ling went outside to call Ye Qiu back, he came inside to take a look at the X-ray. As expected, it closely matched his findings from before.

"Mr. Cao, there’s no other option. Surgery is the only way to remove it and confirm what it is. Let’s see when the hospital can schedule the operation."

Although surgery inherently carried risks, with Ye Qiu’s presence, there was little to fear.

"I need to thoroughly consider this decision," Mr. Cao responded.

"In that case, I’ll head back for dinner," Ye Qiu said.

By now, it was already 8 PM, and he felt quite hungry.

Both Mr. Cao and Cao Ling suddenly realized they had kept Ye Qiu out with them for such a long time.

As Cao Ling personally escorted Ye Qiu downstairs with Wu Shuang in tow, she said, "Dr. Ye, how about I treat you to a meal?"

"Forget it. I’d rather go home and take a shower first. Wearing this military uniform all day has been uncomfortable."

After training for nearly two hours in military boxing that afternoon, Ye Qiu had worked up a sweat and now felt sticky all over. He’d been looking forward to a shower for quite some time and was eager to change into his regular clothes.

In the end, he asked the soldier to drive him back to Jinling University first.

Once Ye Qiu got into the vehicle, the soldier drove off in the direction of Jinling University.

Arriving at the south gate of Jin University, Ye Qiu stepped out of the car and walked toward his dormitory on foot.

When he returned to his dorm room, he saw Luo Yang and Zhou Shaohui playing games with another roommate. None of them had any idea where Ye Qiu had gone earlier.

"Qiu-ge, have you eaten?" Luo Yang asked excitedly upon seeing him return.

"Not yet. I just got back from the military hospital," Ye Qiu replied.

Changing out of his military uniform, he turned to Zhou Shaohui and added, "You three, take my uniform and wash it."

He had another set of military clothes, which he planned to wear the next day.

Now dressed back in casual wear, Ye Qiu grabbed the other uniform and left the dormitory, heading for Peach Blossom Source Villa Community.

Driving back to the entrance of Peach Blossom Spring Villa, Ye Qiu didn’t see any sign of his parents or sister at home. He guessed they were likely still at the Imperial Cuisine Restaurant.

Ye Qiu decided to shower first before heading there for dinner.

After returning upstairs, he picked out a fresh set of clothes and went into the bathroom. He took a long, relaxing shower, and when he came out to dry his hair in his room, he noticed his phone on the desk vibrating persistently.

Picking it up, he saw that the caller was Xiao Hong.

"Xiao Hong? Is that you?"

"Ye Qiu, where are you? I’ve been calling you non-stop—five or six times already—and you didn’t pick up!"

"I was in the shower and just finished. What’s the matter?" Ye Qiu asked.

Realizing he’d been showering, Xiao Hong explained, "Come quickly. Xiaxia and I might be in trouble. Remember the thugs from that village downtown? It looks like they’ve recovered from before and have been showing up in the area again. These past few days, Xiaxia and I have been getting followed by them on our way to work."

Ye Qiu recalled the last time he had dealt with those thugs, teaching them a lesson they wouldn’t forget. To think they had the audacity to stir up trouble again.

The real issue lay in Liu Xia’s insistence on continuing to live in that area, refusing to accept Ye Qiu’s help.

"Isn’t this the predicament you brought upon yourselves?" Ye Qiu asked coldly.

"Ye Qiu, I..." Xiao Hong hesitated. She knew Liu Xia’s pride was the reason she had rejected Ye Qiu’s help back then. After all, she and Ye Qiu were not a couple, so it was unseemly for her to accept the house he had offered.

But the constant harassment by thugs had left both Xiao Hong and Liu Xia frightened. Now, they didn’t even dare go to the market alone after work and had resorted to eating instant noodles in their rental or eating out before returning home.

"I’m not interested in dealing with your problems," Ye Qiu said coldly.

"Ye Qiu, I’m begging you," Xiao Hong pleaded.

In Jinling, she and Liu Xia had few friends. Their coworkers wouldn’t dare confront thugs either, leaving them with no other option but to turn to Ye Qiu for help.

Though Liu Xia sat beside Xiao Hong, she silently allowed her to seek Ye Qiu’s assistance.

Without another word, Ye Qiu hung up the phone.

Hearing the sudden disconnect, Xiao Hong stared at her phone, then at Liu Xia, uncertain whether Ye Qiu would truly refuse to help them this time.

To Xiao Hong’s surprise, Liu Xia seemed genuinely scared now.

In the past, when she was plagued by excessive body odor, she never feared situations like this. But after Ye Qiu cured her condition and transformed her into an undeniable beauty, she had inadvertently attracted unwanted attention from sleazy men.

"Xiaxia, looks like Ye Qiu is upset. What are we going to do now?" Xiao Hong asked nervously.

"We’ll stay in for now. If those thugs follow us again tomorrow, we’ll call the police," Liu Xia replied.

Of course, if they encountered the thugs again, they could only ask a coworker to drive them to work. But this wasn’t a sustainable solution—temporary fixes couldn’t solve a long-term problem, and owing such favors would become difficult to repay.

Regret began creeping into Liu Xia’s heart. Maybe she shouldn’t have been so adamant in the past.

"You regret it now, don’t you? Xiaxia, your stubbornness dragged me into this mess!" Xiao Hong glared at her.

They could have been living in a luxurious house, but now they were stuck in a shabby rental with safety concerns. Xiao Hong especially dreaded the nights, fearing an encounter with the thugs breaking into their home, leaving her sleepless with anxiety.

Finding a new place to live would be another ordeal. It wouldn’t happen overnight, and the process would take time.

Liu Xia didn’t respond to Xiao Hong’s complaints. Instead, she retreated to her own room.

She vividly remembered the last time Ye Qiu brushed her off when she ran into him at the car wash. It was clear that Ye Qiu no longer wanted to concern himself with her.

After all, Ye Qiu’s situation was such that he didn’t need to go out of his way to take care of any woman.

Looking at the missed call log from Xiao Hong, Ye Qiu shook his head.

Opening his closet, he pulled out two dresses he had bought for Liu Xia and Xiao Hong during his trip to France. The dresses were still unworn, sitting neatly in their packaging.

This time, since Xiao Hong had called to ask for help, it might as well be a chance to bring these over and give them to the two women.
