Chapter 790: Chapter 0791: Reporting [Second Update]

Ye Qiu asked Li Qianqian to take Liu Lingxiu over to register first, while he brought Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming to register at the Independent Institute.

Since everything was basically split now, Ye Qiu decided to take the two of them to the Independent Institute first.

"Qianqian, you take Lingshow over to register first."

Li Qianqian didn’t say much, and together with Han Xiaowan, the two girls took Liu Lingxiu and Zhang Yuehong over. Ye Qiu then brought Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming along.

Looking at the flowers and greenery on Jin University’s campus, seeing the young students passing by, Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming were quite impressed.

"Brother Qiu, if it weren’t for you, we’d be working some odd jobs by now!"

Li Shen said.

He was truly grateful to Ye Qiu.

"You two are my only friends. Don’t say stuff like that."

In truth, Ye Qiu had already fully integrated into the role of the original Ye Qiu. Or perhaps, he was simply the same Ye Qiu as before.

That’s why he considered Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming to be two of his best friends.

As for Zhu Zhiming, his family was slightly better off, definitely better than Li Shen’s, but even so, without Ye Qiu’s help, it wouldn’t have made much difference.

Though Zhu Zhiming’s family lived a moderately comfortable middle-class life, from Ye Qiu’s perspective, that level of comfort was just slightly above basic survival. Encounter a major illness, and bankruptcy wasn’t far off—it’d quickly become utter poverty.

As they walked and chatted, the three headed toward the Independent Institute at Jinling University.

Arriving at the area for the Independent Institute, Ye Qiu saw some senior students outside the teaching building assisting freshmen with their registration.

Given that this was a Tier 3 program, which was almost below Tier 2 cutoffs, roughly two-thirds of students got admitted based on their own ability. The rest were likely admitted through family connections and money. For example, this time Ye Qiu had bought scores for the two of them, costing a couple thousand per point, plus the exorbitant tuition fees. Even a middle-class family like Zhu Zhiming’s probably wouldn’t be able to afford it.

So, around here, most of the students were either rich or well-connected.

"Hey, are you guys freshmen?"

A plain-looking senior girl saw Ye Qiu and the two others carrying their things over, assuming they were freshmen for this year.

"Yeah, we are,"

Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming replied.

"Then show me your admission notices."

The Independent Institute at Jinling University didn’t offer many majors—just some in computer software and economics management. Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming were enrolled in the software program.

Their other qualifications might not be strong, but they did have a bit of foundational knowledge in computers and software.

Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming each took out their admission notices. The senior girl checked them and confirmed they were real before asking, "What’s your score on the college entrance exam?"

She assumed the two had gotten in based on their abilities. After all, judging by their attire—and even Ye Qiu’s—that looked too plain to afford four years of tuition, let alone buy their way in.

"Do we need to write that down?"

Li Shen asked.

He’d already forgotten his exact score, just vaguely recalled it being under 200. He felt embarrassed to mention it.

"No need, I’m just asking out of curiosity,"

The senior girl replied.

"Oh, I scored over 500,"

Li Shen said with a grin.

"I got over 600,"

Zhu Zhiming chimed in, laughing.

Seeing the shocked expression on the plain-looking senior girl’s face, Li Shen added, "Nah, just kidding. We only scored a bit over 200."

When Li Shen said that, the senior girl didn’t seem convinced.

The point now was for her to register them and prepare their school ID rankings, as well as check who hadn’t shown up for enrollment after tracking their details.

There were also things like collecting the two’s phone numbers and new bank card details, which could all be sorted here. However, tuition payments and meal card setup weren’t done at this station.

"Your classroom is on the fifth floor, room 503. This afternoon, the counselor should hold a meeting there. Military training will likely begin officially tomorrow,"

The senior girl said.

"Thanks, Senior. We’ll go pay the tuition now,"

Li Shen replied.

After leaving the registration desk, Ye Qiu joined Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming to head to the tuition payment center, submitting the registration documents they’d just been given to pay directly.

Ye Qiu had Li Shen hand over his enrollment materials first. At the desk, the fee-processing teacher explained in detail what needed to be paid.

Besides the yearly tuition of 18,000 yuan, there was a dormitory fee of 2,800 yuan per year, an upfront book fee of 1,000 yuan (with adjustments based on actual usage), and military training expenses of 550 yuan. As for meal cards, they required self-funding topped up as needed.

Li Shen hadn’t realized that the total would be over 20,000 yuan. Combined with living expenses, the yearly cost was close to 30,000 yuan. He was utterly shocked.

"Got it?"

"Got it,"

Li Shen replied.

Of course, he didn’t have that kind of money. Ye Qiu handed over his bank card, saying, "Swipe it."

The fee-processing instructor glanced at Ye Qiu in surprise, thinking he might be Li Shen’s brother. They swiped the card, Ye Qiu entered the PIN, and with the payment successful, Li Shen’s fees were settled.

The teacher completed the fee receipt for tuition, books, dormitory, and military training, stamped it with the Independent Institute’s seal, and handed it over.

"Keep this duplicate yourself. The school might check it later,"

Li Shen quickly slipped it into his backpack.

Then it was Zhu Zhiming’s turn. Zhu Zhiming handed over his registration materials, and just like with Li Shen, his fees totaled over 20,000 yuan.

When Ye Qiu was about to pay for Zhu Zhiming, Zhu Zhiming said, "My dad gave me a bank card, and it should have tuition covered."

He was reluctant to trouble Ye Qiu further since he felt his family was better off compared to Li Shen’s.

So Zhu Zhiming handed his bank card to the fee-processing teacher, entered the PIN, and successfully paid. He gathered his receipts afterward.

As they stepped out of the payment office, with the fees settled, they headed toward the dormitory.

Though Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming had planned to live in the same dorm as Ye Qiu, the dorm arrangements were separated, and the two ended up in the boys’ dormitory exclusive to Independent Institute students. Their dormmates were likely classmates from the same program.

Paying 2,800 yuan a year for dormitories seemed pretty luxurious—there would probably be air conditioning, TVs, and more.

Arriving at the dormitory building the senior girl had mentioned earlier, they made their way to their room on the fourth floor.

After knocking on the door and entering, they saw four other boys already inside.
