Chapter 1016: Chapter 1016: Descendants of Lai Buyi
The fire burned through the entire second half of the night. By the morning, when the sun came up, the wild grass and trees around the abandoned buildings were mostly burned away.
The taller trees now only had scorched trunks remaining.
However, after the wild grass around the abandoned buildings was burned away, the area looked much better, except for the leftover structures of the abandoned buildings; there wasn’t much else.
Last night, those excavators and similar machinery suddenly all stopped working, and the lights wouldn’t turn on. The drivers, who spent the whole night trying to fix them, still couldn’t get them to work.
In the daytime, strangely enough, all those excavators started working again, and the lights were operable.
This left the drivers and repair staff utterly baffled.
However, the head of the construction team, along with several foremen, were busy all night and still dared not relax because today, the chairman of Su Group, Su Wen, and the heads of its subsidiary real estate company, as well as the boss of the above construction team, would come to visit.
So, after instructing the construction team members to have breakfast, they continued clearing out the debris within the abandoned buildings and the remaining burned trees.
"Boss, I have a strange feeling about this place."
The speaker, a young man from the north, was full of energy, having recently retired from the military. He followed his fellow villagers to work in construction, and now he was speaking to his boss.
This boss was one of the foremen of the construction team here.
The foreman was chubby but had a tanned complexion from years of working with the construction team. He was wearing a hard hat and giving directions.
He didn’t expect this young man to come over and talk to him about such matters.
"What’s strange about it?"
"I felt like something was moving around last night!"
"Could it have been mice?"
This vast area of abandoned buildings, covering nearly 200,000 square meters, had been vacant for so long that it’s certain to host wild birds, mice, and snakes as well.
The fire broke out so suddenly last night that it’s possible these small animals couldn’t escape in time and were burned to death.
"How could it be mice?"
As a retired military man, if he couldn’t distinguish mice, his years in the army would have been for nothing.
"Then what do you think it was?"
The foreman asked curiously.
Now, during breakfast, he had time to chat with the young man, but once breakfast was over, there wouldn’t be time for conversation.
Time was precious. When Chairman Su arrived, they needed to ensure everything was in order.
"I can’t say for sure, it just didn’t feel like normal small animals."
"You said you were in the army?"
"I was indeed in the army. My strength comes from training in the military."
"Then you’re too timid."
...
After finishing breakfast, the construction team members continued working, clearing away debris from the abandoned buildings. Many items were carried away by dump trucks.
At nine in the morning, after a brief meeting at the Su Group Building with Lin, the secretary, and the relevant heads of the Su Group’s real estate company, Su Wen prepared to head to the abandoned site.
They wanted to inspect the condition of the abandoned buildings.
Even though they had seen the presentations many times and reviewed a lot of information, Su Wen had never been there in person.
"Have you found someone?"
Su Wen asked softly.
Yesterday, Su Wen had asked Secretary Lin to find a Feng Shui Master and a geomancer to accompany them to the site today.
In a big city like Jinling, there had always been many Feng Shui masters, even some who served as state preceptors in ancient times.
As for fortune-tellers like Master Yan, they are basically low-level Feng Shui men swindling money with little real skill.
But for genuine Feng Shui masters and geomancers, money was not the main issue. Ultimately, it was all about the people involved.
Secretary Lin had searched all over Jinling for skilled Feng Shui masters and geomancers but when they learned about visiting the abandoned buildings, they all immediately refused.
It wasn’t about the money. They knew about the place and understood they shouldn’t go there.
Finally, Secretary Lin found a highly regarded feng shui geomancer willing to go, rumored to be a descendant of Lai Buyi, well-versed in Feng Shui.
"Chairman, I found many yesterday, but they all refused outright. However, I’ve found one who’s very famous, a descendant of Lai Buyi."
"Where is he?"
"In my office right now."
"Let’s go meet him first."
Su Wen and Secretary Lin first went to Lin’s office.
As Su Wen’s secretary, Lin had his own office where he dealt with company affairs most of the time.
In Lin’s office, an elderly man dressed in a black long gown, wearing a hat, and sturdy reading glasses, along with a young man in a suit, were waiting.
The elderly man was a descendant of Lai Buyi, already in the 35th generation. He could tell fortunes and practice Feng Shui, mostly serving the wealthy by providing fortune-telling and Feng Shui consultations.
Yesterday, when Secretary Lin approached him about Su Group’s auctioned property and their request for him to visit, he knew what it was about.
He was familiar with the situation of those abandoned buildings and the old real estate company from years ago.
Nevertheless, with so many years passed, he hadn’t expected the Su Family and Su Group to acquire it through auction.
Initially intent on refusing, he was persuaded by Secretary Lin.
He also found a big red envelope on his desk, placed there by Lin’s disciple unbeknownst to him, so he felt compelled to go.
Ultimately, he knew he had to see for himself to understand the current situation.
"Hello, Mr. Lai, my name is Su Wen."
Upon entering, Su Wen greeted the elderly man.
"Chairman Su, although I’m a descendant of the esteemed Lai Buyi, my surname is not Lai, but Yang."
"My apologies, Master Yang, thank you for coming."
"Chairman Su, that place is well-known among the people of Jinling, and as a Feng Shui master, I know a bit about it. However, I’m unsure if it can be improved; I’ll need to see it first."
Seeing the Feng Shui master’s cautious demeanor, Su Wen couldn’t help but feel worried.
"No time like the present, let’s head over there now."
As they left Lin’s office, Master Yang’s disciple assisted in carrying a box, but the Compass, Master Yang carried himself.
