Chapter 876: Chapter 0876: Military Training Ends
Ye Qiu drove to Jin University and immediately noticed today’s atmosphere was indeed different.
At the new students’ opening ceremony, the stage was set again, with school leaders and military officers seated up front, ready to assess the results of the freshmen’s half-month-long military training.
Unlike Ye Qiu’s class, which practiced military boxing, all other classes focused solely on formation drills, making them stand out from one another.
Still, basic movements like standing at attention and marching in place were required by everyone.
According to the assigned numbers, Ye Qiu’s class was eighth in line, meaning seven other classes would perform first before it was their turn.
The sun remained relentless, but they had no choice but to wait under its glare.
Ye Qiu, Luo Yang, and Ning Yun sat there, watching students from other classes perform their drills one by one in front of the main stage.
It was two hours later when it finally became their turn.
Wu Shuang led the team, with Ye Qiu, as the class monitor, playing an equally significant role.
"Company XX, Platoon XX, Class XX, instructor reporting!"
...
The initial procedures were similar to those of other classes, but the difference came next—while others performed marching drills, Ye Qiu’s class showcased military boxing.
After Ye Qiu and his classmates finished their military boxing routine, they marched out, finally able to sit down and rest while drinking water.
The final results wouldn’t be revealed until every class finished their performance. With so many students, it was expected to take until the afternoon.
Ye Qiu waited there along with his classmates.
By around 2 PM, the military training performances finally concluded. During the ceremony, rankings for the best performances, outstanding instructors, and exceptional students were announced, which took quite a bit of time.
At around 3 PM, when everyone was practically starving, the event was officially declared over.
As Ye Qiu prepared to leave, Wu Shuang pulled him aside, saying, "I might be reassigned as a squad leader for an anti-terror unit in the border regions, or I might stay here in Jinling Military Region as a squad leader for the Special Forces. If I do get sent to the border, it might be half a year before I come back!"
Ye Qiu hadn’t expected Wu Shuang to be reassigned so soon.
"Best wishes to you, Instructor Wu!"
Ye Qiu said.
After Wu Shuang left, Ye Qiu headed back to the male dormitory since, after lunch, he’d need to attend the class meeting.
A moment ago, their advisor Song Ying had already informed them.
With military training now over, all the freshmen could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
This year’s military training seemed similar to previous years, except for one notable incident: Ye Qiu had beaten up Instructor Zhang, deterring other instructors from harassing female students. That incident had a significant impact. Additionally, Ye Qiu, the top scorer of the college entrance exam, had become a standout figure on the campus popularity rankings.
However, in recent days, Ye Qiu had kept a much lower profile. Except for yesterday when he revived Su Luoluo, a highly-ranked campus beauty, momentarily boosting his fame on the popularity rankings, his name had once again slipped down.
Ye Qiu and Luo Yang went to shower and changed out of their uniforms, as those had to be returned to the Military Region later. Someone would come by to collect them.
"Brother Qiu, are we eating at the cafeteria?"
"Will there still be food at the cafeteria now?"
"There should be; today’s a special day."
The school’s cafeteria had received notice too, meaning they probably still had lunch available.
"Alright, then let’s eat at the cafeteria for now. After the class meeting, we can go out for hot pot tonight."
When they arrived at the cafeteria, and after finishing their meal, they headed to Building 11. By the time they reached the classroom, most of their classmates were already there.
Ye Qiu and Luo Yang found seats in the back row. Their advisor Song Ying entered, wearing a pretty dress. She sat at the front desk and waited for the rest of the class to gather before saying, "Your military training days in university have officially ended. Starting tomorrow, you’ll begin your regular classes. Here is your course schedule. Make sure to get a copy for each person or dorm and attend class on time."
Song Ying then touched on what life in university should entail after military training—what to be mindful of and what to avoid. As someone who had been through this herself, she was well aware of the challenges faced by freshmen.
"As for the election of class officers, it will begin tomorrow evening. If you’re interested, you can start preparing over the next couple of days."
"Also, at the moment, Ye Qiu is the only one from our class signed up to perform in tonight’s freshmen welcome party. Anyone else want to join? It’s still not too late to sign up!"
Upon hearing this, the other students immediately shook their heads, not wanting to perform anything themselves.
That said, they were particularly interested in tonight’s mask-themed party. A week ago, freshmen had already been instructed to prepare their masks for this event, where they could mingle and make friends while wearing their mysterious disguises.
"Alright, no more sign-ups then."
Song Ying appeared slightly disappointed, feeling her class lacked enthusiasm.
But she understood. Science students tended to behave this way.
If they were arts students—majoring in music, drama, or fine arts, for example—most would have already signed up.
"Alright then, that’s all. Meeting adjourned!"
Song Ying declared.
Upon hearing this, the classmates prepared to go buy masks.
Luo Yang, Zhou Shaohui, and Ning Yun had already bought theirs earlier, choosing ones like Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie.
"Brother Qiu, what kind of mask do you want?"
"I’m not picky!"
Ye Qiu replied.
Regarding tonight’s highlight event at the welcome party, it was likely the mask-themed gathering. With faces hidden behind masks, and since everyone was a newcomer, there was a chance to meet an attractive opposite-sex friend who could potentially become a romantic partner.
After leaving the classroom, Ye Qiu and Luo Yang returned to the dormitory. By around 5 PM, they were ready to head out to a nearby street for hot pot.
Ye Qiu called Li Shen, Zhu Zhiming, Liu Lingxiu, and Li Qianqian, asking them to join.
At the south gate, Ye Qiu discovered senior students had set up stalls selling masks. They weren’t expensive—ten yuan for a very pretty one.
Luo Yang and the others had bought their masks earlier and had gotten one for Ye Qiu too, though they didn’t know if he would like it.
When they reached the hot pot restaurant, they went inside, found a spacious private room, and notified Li Shen, Liu Lingxiu, and Li Qianqian to come over.
By the time everyone arrived, it was already 6 PM.
"You two had it easy, got to relax for half a month!"
Luo Yang remarked to Li Shen and Zhu Zhiming.
Everyone agreed the two had avoided military training altogether, leaving their skin fairer compared to the rest who, whether it was Luo Yang or Liu Lingxiu, had all tanned a bit.
"We couldn’t handle the hardship."
Li Shen replied.
When the server brought over the hot pot broth, along with the meat, vegetables, drinks, and beer they had ordered, it was finally time to dig in.
