Chapter 370: Chapter 370: A Crocodile That Has Been Hungry for Three Days

Qiao Rui felt a bit strange, "Ignore him."

"No, it’s just that I overheard him mentioning your name to someone, so I paid extra attention. He didn’t engage with me, but I feel you should still be cautious." He Lan warned, "I can’t shake the feeling that he’s plotting against you."

"It’s perfectly normal for him to target me. If he weren’t plotting against me, *that* would be abnormal." Qiao Rui had always been very clear-headed about this.

"As long as you’re aware. I have only two things to say: teach me some martial arts and be wary of Qiao Junxian." He Lan reminded her.

"Understood, thanks." Qiao Rui replied, "Once this project wraps up, I’ll teach you. I’ve got no time these days."

"Alright, take care of yourself then." He Lan didn’t say anything further and just ended the call.

Qiao Rui continued munching on her chips. When she raised her eyes, she happened to see Pei Liyan watching her.

She furrowed her brows slightly and asked, "What’s the matter?"

"Qiao Junxian might really be looking for someone to deal with you." Pei Liyan thought He Lan’s warning was worth paying attention to.

"That’s obvious." Qiao Rui had no doubt. "Him scheming against me is perfectly normal—what’s there to make a fuss about?"

"Better safe than sorry." Pei Liyan said worriedly.

"Sometimes it’s not something you can anticipate. He’s going to act against me anyway, and I can’t stop him. Might as well counter each move as it comes." Qiao Rui thought Qiao Junxian was probably finding things much harder right now—after all, her threats were indeed formidable.

"Why do I feel like you’re actually quite excited?" Liyan looked at her relaxed and unconcerned demeanor, growing a little uneasy.

"I’m eating delicious snacks; of course I’m excited." Qiao Rui said, "Why don’t you have some snacks too? Guarantee you’ll feel thrilled as well."

"I’d be more thrilled eating something else. Snacks aren’t my thing." He spoke with pointed intent.

Qiao Rui pretended not to catch his meaning. "Well, you clearly don’t know how to enjoy good food."

Pei Liyan frowned and picked up his phone, calling Fang Mo. "Check into who Qiao Junxian has been meeting with."

Qiao Rui glanced at him. "Isn’t that unnecessary?"

"Being proactive helps prevent trouble later." Liyan replied, "Forewarned is forearmed."

"Qiao Junxian can’t stir up too much of a storm." Qiao Rui remarked, "If he were capable of creating waves, the Qiao Family would’ve flourished under his leadership long ago."

"Underestimating your enemy is a critical mistake." Liyan said gravely.

Qiao Rui gave him a look and suddenly laughed, "I understand, relax."

She wouldn’t tell him that everything was already under her control, and there was absolutely no need for his people to investigate—she had planned ahead long ago.

It was precisely because everything was well in hand that she wasn’t nervous.

Seeing her confidence, Liyan figured she must have her own arrangements.

He said, "Looking at your current state, I feel assured. Snacks finished?"

Qiao Rui nodded, "Pretty much, but now it’s time for me to head back to my room."

"You’re doing this on purpose?" Liyan raised a brow.

Qiao Rui spread her hands, "My slippers and phone are in my room. If anything happens, I might miss it."

"I’ll get them for you." He said seriously.

Qiao Rui shrugged, "Fine, I’ll trouble Mr. Pei then."

Liyan went to her room and brought back her phone and slippers. As he entered, he said, "Move to my room. Let’s live together."

"No way, I’m not used to that." Qiao Rui replied, "I still want to apply for my own room."

Liyan said, "This room will be shared by us. Use it however you like—I won’t interfere."

"Let’s forget it; I’d still like a separate room."

"I want us to stay in the same room." Liyan insisted once again.

"Fine, it’s just sleeping together, isn’t it? After sleeping, I’ll return to my room." Qiao Rui said.

"Why?" Liyan asked. "Isn’t it good to stay in the same room as me?"

"Definitely not." Qiao Rui glanced at him and unabashedly complained, "Sleeping in the same room with you—won’t I be exhausted? Your insatiable eagerness is terrifying."

Liyan sat on the edge of the bed, placed her phone on the bedside table, and held her hand. "You’re avoiding me on purpose because you know I have needs, aren’t you?"

Qiao Rui froze, blinked, and said, "I just want to rest properly. I need to work hard right now."

"Your refusal doesn’t count; I’m just informing you—you *must* sleep with me." Liyan said, smiling faintly.

Qiao Rui tilted her head, "Mr. Pei, the way you’re behaving is called forcing someone against their will."

Liyan frowned, "Sleeping with my own wife—how is that forcing anyone?"

Qiao Rui blinked and smirked, "You were the one who suggested separate rooms at the start, weren’t you?"

Liyan frowned slightly.

"I remember you making that whole three-rule agreement at the beginning—it was because I was so ugly then that you couldn’t bring yourself to touch me. Now that I’m pretty and attractive, you can’t wait to pounce on me. Talk about how times change!"

Liyan bit back his irritation at her teasing, frowning further, unable to retort.

Seeing him stay quiet and proper, Rui stopped teasing him.

"Nothing else to say, huh?" she asked.

"No." Liyan replied.

"Alright, let’s sleep then." Rui turned and lay down. "I think I ate without brushing my teeth."

"Brush later." Liyan said.

He turned off the light and pulled Rui close. "Just ate? Time for some exercise to help digestion."

Rui murmured, "I’m too tired; I don’t want to exercise."

"I’ll take care of it; you don’t need to do anything." He tasted her lips and frowned slightly. "Chips flavor—barbecue?"

Rui chuckled, "Next time I’ll eat something with the distinctive flavor of fold-ear root. Let’s see if you dare kiss me then."

"Even if you eat something that smells like stinky salted fish, I’ll still kiss you." Liyan replied.

Rui’s cheeks flushed. "Then clearly, you have a heavy taste."

Liyan’s lips curved with amusement. "It’s your taste that’s heavy."

Rui huffed lightly, "Say another word and we’re done. I’ll head to my room, alright?"

"Alright, I won’t say it anymore." Liyan said, smiling.

The night was, naturally, wonderful.

Early the next morning, Qiao Rui, full of energy, went onsite to investigate the project.

The project itself was a water-based venture. Projects involving water pollution were challenging to profit from.

From the beginning, this project seemed doomed.

The car set off for Qingcheng Reservoir. Qiao Rui and Gai Yin boarded a boat and traveled across the reservoir to the opposite shore.

At that moment, Pei Liyan received a call.

"President, Madam visited Qingcheng Reservoir for inspection. It’s rumored Qiao Junxian secretly released a crocodile into the reservoir to target Madam."

"A crocodile?" Liyan was startled. "Are you sure about this information?"

"The person Junxian met last night raises crocodiles. A crocodile that hasn’t been fed for three days was transported, most likely aimed at Madam."

"Dammit." Liyan immediately instructed, "Prepare a car—head to the reservoir now!"
