Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Vomiting Exactly What Was Eaten

"You... you... you have such a cruel heart!" Lin Hailan cried sharply, pointing at Qiao Rui and cursing, "What kind of thing are you to dare treat us like this?"

"I’m not a ’thing.’ I’m a person." Qiao Rui remained calm as ever. "Auntie, you’re the ’thing.’"

"Dad!" Lin Hailan trembled with anger, looking at Elder Qiao’s silence, both furious and anxious. "Say something!"

Elder Qiao finally spoke: "Enough, Qiao Rui!"

"Grandpa, whether it’s ’enough’ or not isn’t up to me. I don’t enjoy conflicts with others, but somehow people insist on causing trouble for me. I’m someone who particularly enjoys knocking down those who provoke me, so instead of advising me, you might as well advise your daughter-in-law instead." Qiao Rui showed no intention of giving Elder Qiao face.

Elder Qiao frowned and said, "Hailan, go back home."

"Dad, is that it?" Lin Hailan’s eyes widened as she stared at Elder Qiao in disbelief.

Elder Qiao nodded, saying, "If you think it’s not over, you can stay to listen and see how many years these pieces of evidence will land your husband in prison."

Lin Hailan was stunned again.

She had already known when she came today that some things were irreversible; she was merely grasping at straws.

But she hadn’t expected Elder Qiao to be so resolute.

"Dad, that’s your son!" Lin Hailan exclaimed in disbelief.

"Yes, he is indeed my son. If he weren’t my son, he’d have been sent away long ago," Elder Qiao replied firmly. "Your ruckus here won’t work. Go back and tell your husband to behave and not dream up any schemes. Especially letting women run interference for him—it won’t work either."

"Hmm, now that’s the kind of talk I enjoy hearing." Qiao Rui nodded earnestly.

"You enjoy hearing nonsense," Lin Hailan accidentally blurted out rudely. "It’s all your fault!"

"Auntie, how about I investigate you too?" Qiao Rui remained unfazed, even looking amused. "Perhaps I’ll just send your entire family of three inside."

"Huff, huff!" Lin Hailan was so enraged she nearly fainted. "You... you’re crazy!"

"Grandpa, she just insulted you," Qiao Rui turned to Elder Qiao. "Auntie said you’re crazy."

"When did I call Elder Qiao crazy?" Lin Hailan stomped her foot furiously.

"You called me crazy, so naturally Grandpa is the ’old crazy.’"

Lin Hailan was so incensed she collapsed into a chair, panting heavily and unable to speak.

Finally, there was some peace.

Qiao Rui glanced at Lin Hailan, then walked over to Elder Qiao and handed him documents. "Grandpa, these materials are more detailed than what you found. Take a look—over the past decade, Uncle has taken 3 billion from the Qiao Family."

"What?" Elder Qiao was stunned. "This much?"

"I figured you hadn’t uncovered the full extent," Qiao Rui sighed. "These appear in the Qiao Family accounts. There are additional sums not recorded, and those will require further investigation. I’ll also be diving into where Uncle diverted these funds."

Elder Qiao’s face darkened with a stormy mix of emotions.

Lin Hailan’s face also turned pale instantly. She stared dumbly at the information Qiao Rui presented, unable to utter a single word.

It was uncovered.

Uncovered so thoroughly, even the amounts were nearly exact.

Lin Hailan began to feel a mounting sense of danger toward Qiao Rui. Finally, she understood what her husband meant when he called her terrifying!

"Lin Hailan." Elder Qiao finally spoke. "Since you’re here, why don’t you tell us—where did the money go?"

"Dad, I... How would I know?" Lin Hailan’s eyes darted evasively, her tone filled with denial. "You can’t just assume everything Qiao Rui says is true!"

"Why don’t you say something then?" Qiao Rui chuckled. "You could refute me—maybe present evidence that proves I’m wrong."

"Shut up!" Lin Hailan snarled. "You’re the worst!"

"Auntie, don’t yell like a street hag. Let me tell you, I’ve seen plenty of them. The grandmas in the village can shout from the bridge for three whole days without repeating themselves. If you enjoy it, I’ll invite some grannies over to yell at you—with dances or songs, whatever you prefer. It’ll be sure to satisfy."

"You... you!" Lin Hailan was gasping in fury again.

Qiao Rui couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore.

Elder Qiao then asked, "Qiao Rui, what’s your plan?"

"Grandpa, three days—a deadline for Auntie to account for the 3 billion. Otherwise, in three days, I’ll file a lawsuit and lock him up." Qiao Rui’s tone was serious.

"No!" Lin Hailan screamed.

Elder Qiao nodded. "Alright, let’s do as you say."

"Dad!" Lin Hailan protested loudly. "You can’t do this. It’s bullying!"

"Go back and tell Uncle—3 billion is what he must return. I won’t demand the rest. But this amount, he must cough up," Qiao Rui said, tossing the documents at Lin Hailan. "Take these back."

Lin Hailan picked up the papers in a daze and became increasingly alarmed as she read through them.

Qiao Rui turned to Elder Qiao. "Grandpa, I’ll be heading back now. Tomorrow I need to inspect a project."

"Eat before you leave," Elder Qiao said.

Qiao Rui hesitated and asked Elder Qiao, "Vegetarian?"

Elder Qiao recalled the time she bought so much meat to mock the Qiao Family and got him terribly annoyed. Thinking about it now still made him furious.

"Meat."

"If it’s meat, then alright!" Qiao Rui replied cheerfully. "I’ll reluctantly stay then."

The ability to speak this infuriatingly could make anyone fume.

Lin Hailan left unsteadily.

In the living room, only the two of them remained.

Qiao Rui looked at Elder Qiao. "If I do end up sending your son to jail, you wouldn’t be so mad that you’d keel over, would you?"

"Your goal isn’t to send him to jail, right? It’s to recover the money," Elder Qiao countered. "This amount could revive the Qiao Family."

"I’m afraid your son might be the real problem—what if he squandered it all?"

"Where could it all go?" Elder Qiao replied. "This much money couldn’t possibly be spent even on indulgence."

"True," Qiao Rui nodded. "For starters, let Big Sis sell her villa—it’d fetch several tens of millions."

Elder Qiao furrowed his brows. "You just don’t like Qiao Xiang living next door to Pei Liyan, do you?"

Qiao Rui scoffed. "Why would I care? I’m just afraid Big Sis will get more twisted watching us as a loving couple. Her jealous streak might kill her."

"Then why not let her stay there and see if her jealousy does kill her?" Elder Qiao was clearly annoyed, recalling the headache of their buying of the house.

Qiao Rui responded indifferently, "If she sells the house and moves out, that’d only make her madder!"

"You!" Elder Qiao sighed in exasperation. "Why are you so good at riling people up?"

"Learned it."

"The grandmas in your village—can they really yell for three days?" Elder Qiao asked.

"Yes, Grandpa, for three days straight without repeating themselves. They’re fierce fighters. Should I introduce one to be your new wife?"

"Nonsense!" Elder Qiao’s beard twitched with anger.

"Hahaha!" Qiao Rui burst out laughing.

Elder Qiao finally said, "Too tired to argue with you. Tell me your plan."
