Chapter 400: THE HEMMING’S GATHERING

HUNTER’S POV

" We are back’" Aspen’s voice reached my ears as he walked into my office late Friday afternoon.

" How was it ?" I leaned on the office chair and looked up at him.

" Lots of alcohol and partying" Aspen chuckled

" I bet. The Yakuza gang have always been extra " I responded as I stood up and walked towards Aspen and stood a few feet from him.

" Ma has invited all of us for dinner, " Aspen announced.

" I know" I responded and waited for him to speak up as Aspen was always straightforward and he had a reason to come to my office.

" Take a walk with me" Aspen suggested and I agreed as we walked out of the office. Everest met me at the exit of the pack office and after exchanging a few words, I left him in charge and walked with Aspen down to the town and we ended up in the pier.

" What bothered you that you decided to take a walk with me. ?" I asked once we stood by the pier staring out at the sea.

" Hunter, do you think Ma, will be disappointed that I am mated to the Battalion and will not give her grandkids?" Aspen asked.

" What the fuck are you on about " I raised one eyebrow and then added " Why are you worried about such nonsense?

" Addison is pregnant and will be due in months. And you and Tala will have a pup, that leaves me out of the equation. " Aspen responded.

" Tala and I are not ready to have a child " I voice my thoughts.

" Too late, she is already pregnant " Aspen announced and my jaw dropped in shock.

" What ?" My voice croaked.

" I just met her as I was entering the pack office and my wolf is never wrong. There is a life that is beating in her belly" Aspen smiled.

" Oh my " My legs gave way and I sat down on the pier as Aspen burst out in laughter.

" Congratulations brother, I bet Tala is not even aware " Aspen patted my shoulder and lowered himself next to me.

" I never expected it, " I whispered in Aspen.

" I came to the pack office to deliver the new paintings and talk to you about dinner. I have a gift for Ma. We bought one of the villas in Pier for her. "

" What ?" My eyes widened in shock.

" The Battalion felt that Ma needed a home where she could garden and retire " I explained.

" You do know that she is tied to the hip with Elder Zaya" I pulled Aspen down and he sat down with a thud.

" The house was specifically renovated and the interior was designed by Conri and Me. We worked hard to ensure that Ma and Elder Zaya would love it" I explained.

"You have matured so fast, Aspen. " My hushed response came as I felt emotional.

" Time has flown by. But I love that we are together at last" Aspen nodded in response.

" I never expected it or imagined that one day we shall be together. " I chuckled.

" Ma always encouraged us and never lost hope," Aspen informed me.

" Come on, you need to take me shopping. I had not prepared a gift for Ma" I stood up and pulled Aspen with me.

" I have something for you," Aspen smirked. " Drive me back home to pick it up."

" It seems I need to rely on you from now on" I placed an arm around his shoulders as walked back to the pack office to pick up the car. We drove to Aspen’s home and he took me to the backyard where he had set up his painting room. My eyes widened as I stared at the "gift" he had prepared for me.

My jaw dropped as words failed me as I stared at the painting before me. It was a picture of Tala, Aspen, Ma, Elder Zaya, Everest and Levy, Conri and Lucian, Commander Abram, Jerusha, Oliver, Graham, Keith and Addison, Benjamin and Luna, Luke and Lenora, Tizheruk and Haida. Aspen had captured everyone from the pack and included Tizheruk and Haida in the painting. My eyes watered immediately as I felt emotional as tears flowed freely from my eyes.

" Do you like it ?" Aspen asked.

" I love it " My voice croaked and the tears flowed freely down my cheeks.

" I can see " Aspen walked over and pulled me into a hug.

" Oh Aspen, Ma will love it " I responded as I returned the hug and we held each other.

When we stepped back, I stared down at him and said " You have grown into a fine young man. I always thought that I let you down by staying away from Sitka. But you proved me wrong when you went after your mates and came back to Chugach and settled down with them. "

" I know Hunter. It was not easy for you when we were separated. But I hoped that I would be able to make my big brother proud" Aspen responded.

" Hemming my wolf, is awed at your Alpha Gold wolf " I responded and wiped the tears with the back of my hand.

" I know that it comes as a surprise to everyone but my mates made me accept myself and helped me be who I am now. I can’t thank them enough" Aspen asserted.

" You will make a fine Alpha " I chuckled.

" No. I want to pain and live a peaceful life, travel the world, and spend time with my mates" Aspen confessed.

" I heard from Addison and Tala that you were giving out all the paintings for free. How will you earn a living if you keep doing that ?" I scolded him.

He chuckled and then seemed to blush as he informed me " Brother, all my mates gave me half of their wealth. I have a fat bank account, villas in eight countries, a shipping company, and a home in Russia"

I could only stare at Aspen and shake my head in disbelief.

It was late afternoon the next day when we all convened at Elder Zaya’s home for dinner. Tala and I, Ma, Elder Zaya, Everest and Levy, Conri and Lucian, Commander Abram, Jerusha, Oliver, Graham, Keith and Addison, Benjamin and Luna, Aurora, Lovita, Tharn, Toten and Uncle Cadman, Zeeb and Anisha were present. We all squeezed into the outdoor garden in the backyard. The mood was hearty and smiles filled the room as Tala and Luna served dinner.

" Where are the pups?" Everest asked Benjamin.

" At the Freki resort mansion with Luka," Benjamin responded.

" I miss them already, " Luna huffed.

" They will be fine " Benjamin assured her and rubbed her back affectionately.

"Thank you all for coming " Elder Zaya raised her voice and we turned to listen to her. " We must cherish moments like this when we have time to gather and eat together.

" Absolutely. I am blessed to have you all here. Thank you for coming." Ma added.

After dinner, the table was moved from the garden and we all sat down to enjoy a drink then Aspen winked at me and I knew it was time to give Ma the gifts.

" Ma, we have something for you" I spoke up and everyone around us watched as Aspen walked forward and then took Ma’s hand and handed her the key.

" My mates and I bought a house for you and Elder Zaya. Conri and I spent time on the interior design while Everest built the backyard together with Levy, Keith, and Addison. We want you to spend the rest of your lives enjoying the view of the sea. " Aspen informed her and we watched as she beamed and Elder Zaya laced her arm around Ma.

" Thank you so much " Elder Zaya smiled with joy as Ma sniffed and held back her tears.

" Thank you so much. You are wonderful children" Ma nodded.

I walked to the table where I had placed the painting, picked it up, hid the front as I walked to Ma, and beckoned Tala to join me.

" Ma, I have something for you. Your new house will need a wonderful picture. " I smiled and it

"What did you have your brother do ?" Ma’s scolding voice rose.

I presented the painting and I noted the pin-drop silence around us. I could read the emotions around as I felt the intake of breaths from everyone.

" Wow" It was Conri who spoke up first.

" Thank you Hunter and Aspen" Ma nodded as tears rolled down her cheeks and Addison bit back a sob.

"You are most welcome. We are all family " I nodded.

" You wanted to make us cry " Tala sobbed and Luna rushed over to her and they embraced each other.

" He did, " Anisha sniffed and Zeeb chucked in response.

"Did you tell her?" Aspen whispered to me.

" What are you whispering about ?" Lucian asked.

By the way Aspen sparkled, I knew he was about to spill the beans and hence I rushed to speak up " I have some good news. Tala is pregnant"

" What?" Ma, Luna, Anisha, and Elder Zaya yelled.

" I am?" Tala responded in shock as her eyes widened at me.

" She is" Conri affirmed and Luna laughed in happiness as she stood beside Mrs. Hemming and Elder Zaya.

" Aspen found out yesterday" I confessed and pulled Tala into my arms. " His Alpha Gold wolf felt it "

" That is the best news. You have made today worthwhile." Mrs. Hemming stated.

"Congratulations Tala and Hunter" Everyone in the room piped as Tala beamed and raised herself and pressed her lips to mine.

" Oh Hunter, you have made me so happy," Tala declared.

The celebration went on for hours and everyone left one by one just after two pm.

" Hunter, thank you so much for today" Ma whispered as she embraced me.

" I would not be here if you had not held on. Thank you Ma, I owe you so much" I responded.

" You are befitting to be the head of the Hemming family. " Ma declared.
