Chapter 274: HUNTER’S ANGER

Simon Mark had disappeared. I could not reach him nor trace his whereabouts. Every time I would bring up the topic, Hunter would be so offended that it was causing a drift. Although we slept in the same bed, he would get up at night to the house fearing that Simon would come back.

Over the past few days, Hunter was too busy having calls with the pack matters as we worked to rebuild the Chugach prison. Regardless of his busy schedule he nagged me and hovered worried about my safety. I had no idea what he was planning but I knew something big was cooking because we could not trace Simon.

An hour before we left the office, the phone rang with a hidden number and I knew that it was Simon calling. I connected the call and spoke up " What do you want Simon?"

" I need a chance Tala’ He drawled.

" Cut the crap, Simon. You know that what you did is borderline psycho. If someone did the same to you, they would not be alive. You would put a bullet in between their eyes." I responded and he went mute on the phone. " Where are you? "

" Far away from the two of you. Hunter has been tracking me hence I have to lay low. I I know that he is pissed but he forgets we did all the dirty work for Lobo. What if I expose to the pack his secrets? The number of bodies he has buried? Money laundering and gold trafficking?" He laughed.

" He would do the same, ’’ I retorted. " Both of you are so alike, you just don’t see it "

" I am nothing like Hunter. You have never seen his true colors. That is why Lobo used him to do his dirty work."

" So what?" I snickered knowing well that I was being baited.

" You are mated, right? I heard that his family was rescued and is now in Chugach. What do you think his mother will say when I walk over and spill the beans? "

" I will beg for her forgiveness on his behalf. He is my mate after all" I pointed out hoping to drive Simon’s anger off the roof.

" Did you go mental?" Simon demanded " You used to be so rationale Tala"

" I got mated, " I answered honestly.

" His cock made you stupid? ’ Simon sarcastically responded

" I guess so," I laughed.

" Fuck you Tala" Simon disconnected the call.

I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration as I stared at the view. I went to the rooftop of the Golden Shifter pack building to pick up Hunter who had been hovering over me the whole day and it got on my nerves.

I turned around to leave and stopped short when I saw Hunter standing a few meters from me looking like he was about to bite my head off. He must have followed me and now he looked so angry that my wolf whined.

" I can explain," I whispered.

" I am all ears" He crossed his arm.

" Simon was our friend. I know that you think otherwise but if you were saved from Lobo’s clutches, I think he can be saved too " I whispered.

" He is hiding like a rat. You have no idea if Lobo sent him back or not" Hunter drawled.

" He said you have so many secrets that would put me in danger." I deflected.

" So what ?" Hunter scoffed " You would believe a word he says |

" You are keeping me in the dark!!" I scolded

" After talking to your old friend you want to judge me" Hunter seethed.

I stared at his arrogant face and whizzed past him. I walked down the stairs and headed to the washrooms on the top floor. I need to get away from an angry Hunter Hemming.

I walked in and banged the door behind me, walked to the sink, and opened the tap. I put my face under the running water and when I lifted it. Hunter was on standby behind me with a large roll of tissue. How the hell has he sneaked in without me hearing him?

I plucked the tissues from his hand and wiped my face. I walked to the bin and threw them away. " I just need to be alone for a while. Recollect my thoughts. You are not making it easy for me" I whispered.

" You are pushing me away because of what you heard. " he replied in anger, walking over to tower over me.

"Don’t even think about touching me, " I warned him.

His eyes flickered and I could see the hurt in them. He took a step back and laughed " I have spoilt you. No one in this world dares talk to me the way you do." He growled and left the washroom.

" What did I do? " I whispered as I leaned back on the cold washroom tiles recollecting my thoughts. I must admit Simon’s reckless statements had gotten to me. But I was on edge since he came back to Chugach.

I walked back to the office and shut myself in for the rest of the day. After finalizing the pending task and paperwork, the day ran by, and soon it was dusk. All this time Hunter has not contacted me and irked me even more.

It was close to nine p.m. when I left the office for home and decided to pick up a bottle of whiskey in the mall. When I arrived at our home, I found that Hunter had not arrived. I called his phone and it went unanswered.

I sent him a text message " Where the hell are you?" and sat in the car waiting for a response. The ding on my phone made me happy as I checked the response to the text

" Why are you looking for me?" was the response that I got.

This man was so childish it made me laugh. I got out of the car and I stared at the phone. I entered the house and closed the door behind me, glad that he responded. I took a shower, ate, and got into bed, as my last thought was that Hunter would come to me when he was calm.

Three days later!!!

He had not contacted me. I was already feeling annoyed and irritated. The last text before the day ended was " I will come to you only when you beg"

On the fourth day, Simon called again just as I finished dinner and walked up to sleep.

" Yes," I answered.

" It’s Simon." His voice sounded tired.

" Why are you calling me from a burner phone?" I scolded.

" I am at the airport. Am leaving Alaska" He stated.

" Good. You already caused me enough trouble" I responded.

" Hunter and I can’t be in the same country. He sent people to hunt me down. I am afraid of what he might do. " Simon said in a hushed tone.

"Will you at least tell me what is happening? I have no idea. I am in the dark " I responded in frustration.

" Hunter’s past with Lobo is so dark that I am a threat to him. If he finds me, he will kill me."

" Why the fuck would he do that ?" I scolded.

" Because he knows how your father died," Simon answered."

" What are you saying, Simon? Pa died of an illness after his accident " I yelled.

He was silent for a while and then he said " I should have told you sooner. But you mated with him and broke my heart. "

" Fuck off Simon. If you don’t tell me the truth I will never forgive you"

Simon laughed and retorted " When someone is in love, there is no room for reasoning. Hunter will kill and mutilate anyone who comes near you more sore anyone who speaks about his past and Lobo Aria "

Simon was right.

" I thought you were my friend. Why have all these secrets" I huffed as I felt tears lace my eyes.

" Take care of yourself Tala and heed my warning" He disconnected the call.

Hunter, what the fuck are you hiding? The fact that I missed him so much was driving me up the wall. I stared at my phone as I walked to the bed and sat down. He wanted me to beg? What about my pride? And how many secrets did he have? I thought of Pa’s death but then Hunter was only six years older than me. What could have to do with his death?

I lay down and closed my eyes, willing my body to rest. Hours later tossing and turning in bed gave me a headache. Getting out of bed, I resorted to drinking myself to sleep. I picked up the bottle of whiskey I had bought for Hunter, sat by the window of the bedroom, and drowned myself in it. In my drunken state, I kept dialing Hunter’s phone nonstop but he never picked up.

I sent the last text message before my eyes closed in exhaustion" Hunter you fucking bastard. Do you know how much I am hurting? Am begging you to come home"
