LUCIAN’S POV

On Christmas Eve the family converged at the Freki Mansion gardens for the celebration and dinner. The only people who were missing were Tizheruk and Haida. I could tell that Conri seemed sad about it but we could do nothing as they bore the responsibility of being in Sitka. I had listened to a conversation between Conri and Tizheruk earlier as Conri informed him that everyone had come for the dinner party and Elder Zaya was missing him.

" I hope to see you in the new year " Conri ended the call as I beckoned to the dinner.

Anisha had set up a round table at the garden and we went all out on the decor.

" You outdid yourself this time " I leaned down to whisper to her as she sat on my left shoulder while Conri sat on my right. Elder Zaya was seated at the head of the table and Mrs. Hemming was seated at her right side. The rest of the family, Hunter and Tala, Addison and Keith, Aspen, Everest, and Levy, Luna, and Benjamin plus Levy had smiles on their faces as they chatted along. Elanor and Luke had already retired to sleep since it was headed to midnight as Luke had spent the better part of the evening swimming.

" Thank you all for coming " Elder Zaya’s strong and sound voice interrupted our small chitchats with each other. " I must say that I never expected to have such warmth surrounding all of us one year later. The appearance of Lucian at the Golden Shifter annual dinner made everything worthwhile. Conri got off the mountains and he is now the pack Alpha. This has always been my dream and it finally came true. I must say your parents are happy in the moon’s heaven as they watch how great you have become. "

" Thank you, Godmother," Conri nodded at her.

" Lucian my child, what would I do without you? You are such a ray of sunshine that brought so many changes in Chugach. Your influence on everyone is the kind of attitude and changes we need within ourselves and the pack. We are forever grateful for you"

" It was my pleasure" I responded to her.

She then turned to Luna" What more can I say about the changes? I am happy to see you grow and now expecting pups. Benjamin, you are so lucky to have Luna as your mate. Be good to her for the rest of your life."

" Thank you Zaya, " Benjamin and Luna piped.

" My dear Anisha. You are like a daughter to me. You have been steadfast and loyal even though the pack rumors surrounded you for years. But I am glad that you never broke down and soldiered on. Zeeb, you must protect Anisha for the rest of your life. She is a precious gem and deserves happiness" Elder Zaya’s eyes bore Zeeb.

Zeeb took Anisha’s hand in his and said " I will. That is a promise"

" Everest, my ever-loyal friend," Elder Zaya beamed at him." You are the one who believed that Conri would be Alpha. You never for a second doubted that he would get off the mountains and make it this far. And I know Ralph Isla is happy to see that his son has such a good man beside him"

" Thank you Zaya Dolf. I never doubted for once that Conri would become the Alpha of the Golden shifter pack " Everest responded with confidence and Levy beamed at him.

" Hunter and Tala. You have been through so much and I bet that you are loyal to each other and would defend each other’s lives. I say this because I know how much trouble Lobo put you through. But your hearts and souls are wonderful and in the end, you stood strong on the right side. You are meant for each other and I know Conri has the best of the two of you"

" Thank you Elder Zaya" Hunter and Tala responded.

" Mrs. Hemming. I am so glad my dear boy Bering rescued you. He has given me a good friend that I can rely on. We have been through so much and I pray we leave long enough to see our grandchildren"

" That is true Zaya. Thank you for taking me" Mrs. Hemming had tears in her eyes.

Elder Zaya then turned to Addison and Keith" I know that you plan to renovate your father’s house, Keith. But I discussed with Mrs. Hemming and I bought the two of you a house. I want you to start your life on a clean slate"

" What ?" Keith and Addison gasped

" There is a new apartment condo near the pier. That house now belongs to the two of you. One side of the condo will be occupied by Aspen too" Elder Zaya pointed out.

" Wow," Aspen’s jaw dropped.

"That is true. We made this decision together. We hope that you can now have your lives like normal pack members. " Mrs Hemming added.

" Thank you Ma" Addison beamed and Keith nodded.

" My own house?" Aspen whispered emotionally.

" Yes. And you will join Lucian at Due Corporation from the beginning of next year. You will be trained by Anisha to replace John Tharn who will be leaving for the pearl farm." Elder Zaya announced.

"Thank you so much, " Aspen nodded excitedly.

" Great" Elder Zaya beamed as Keith patted Aspen’s back with affection." This is what I call family. My family and I are so happy to have all of you in my life." She raised her glass and we all cheered with her, as my heart filled with so much love and Conri winked at me.

" This was all you doing Lucian Freki" He pushed the words through my mind.

" Maybe. But you had the biggest role that pushed all of us together" I responded.

"There is one more thing " Elder Zaya turned to me and Conri. " I prepared my last will. " She raised her hand to stop me from speaking and continued " I did this because I am not young anymore. All my wealth goes to both of you. I know you don’t need it but you two are my children. "

" Godmother " Conri scolded her and she laughed.

" What can I do? I am made this way and will not relent " She teased. " I say this now because all of you are witnesses to my words" She pointed at everyone in the room.

" Godmother, you don’t need to do this, ’’ I whispered.

" I know that you think I don’t but I do. It’s the wishes of this old woman" She patted her chest. " Lucian, when you married my godson, everyone assumed he did not have wealth. But you and I know how much wealth Conri has. He did not need to prove himself to match up to you. But it was good to cement this from the beginning and to ensure that there were no doubts about it. I know he even changed the designs of the Freki Resort to suit your new home. He is a thoughtful child and both of you become the right heirs to what I have"

"Just accept it and let it be " Mrs. Hemming spoke to us.

Conri and I nodded and Godmother chuckled " Was that so hard?"

"Yes, " Conri muttered, making everyone burst out laughing.

" He has always been this way, " Godmother teased him.

We served dinner and drank together, chatting the night away and it was almost close to four am when everyone left the Freki mansion. Conri had picked Luke from the bed, covered him with blankets as he walked to the car, and placed him in Elanor’s arms.

" He was so exhausted," Elanor chuckled.

" Bring him over more often" Conri smiled warmly and Elanor nodded as he closed the door and the car left.

We stood at the door of the mansion bidding everyone farewell and I spoke up " I never expected us to be such a big family. "

" I never expected anything," Conri whispered.

" Come on" I pulled Conri back into the house, deep into the garden to clear everything. Anisha had already picked up the dinnerware and cleaned up. We worked on putting everything up and it was close to dawn when we went to bed.

" Lucian, do you think we should have invited the storm family for dinner?" Conri asked.

" It is too soon, " I responded." I know that Lovita is working to prove himself but there is so much drama that surrounds them. Tizheruk said he has to agree to get the Wolfe bond sealed so that Lobo and Zineb never use it. "

" I know but I have no idea why I feel guilty. Maybe it’s because Toten is a good person or Tharn is a member of the pack. " Conri rubbed my back.

" Okay. Let us have them over for the New Year party. Will this ease your mind ?" I muttered.

" Yes. I want the Golden Shifter Pack to be a place where everyone feels safe and comfortable." Conri hummed as I noted his voice got deeper and deduced he was about to fall asleep.

" Sweet dreams husband "I responded after a while and the silence told me I was already asleep.
