Chapter 153: THE HUNT

"Let us all stick together as long as we are out here in the woods. If we split, then the chances of one of us getting attacked and leaving us in a disaster are high," I commanded as we moved through the forest on Mount Chugach in search of Lobo Aria.

"He covered his tracks well. " Anisha stood, her eyes changed color, and we watched her track down Lobo and his wolves.

"He went South, "Tizheruk stated. " That is the last I can track his sent"

"Why do you have to wait for us to use our powers when you can just detect where he went? "I scolded him.

"It’s fine. " He shrugged his shoulders as we watched Commander Abram’s team rush out to the South of the Chugach forest and disappear.

"Can you keep up?" Haida yelled and took off after them, and Anisha followed her.

"You know that she will be a handful all her life and I wonder if you shall be able to keep up," I spoke out loud.

"How do you deal with Lucian?" Tizheruk turned to stare at me in question.

"Lucian is nothing like her. "I chuckled and rushed forward as I felt Tizheruk curse at me as we raced through the forest.

Hours later, we arrived at the foot of Mount Chugach by the river that was flowing through the mountains. The chilly mountain air rose and Haida padded through the water as she laughed happily amidst the danger of Lobo Aria and his mangy wolves. Commander Abram’s team was not in sight, and this made us feel uneasy.

"Where do you think they went?" I asked Tizheruk.

"Why not open your senses and search for them? ’’ Tizheruk responded in a teasing tone.

I let Dolf’s senses take over and listened into the forest, scanning the area to see if I could get anything. And then I sensed one Mangy wolf. It was lying low by the far edge of the forest. This wolf was not among the ones that Lobo had in Boris’s residence.

"We have company. " I raised my voice and instantly Tizheruk rushed to the water and carried Haida out as Anisha stood behind me.

"How many?" Anisha demanded.

"One big Mangy wolf over there. "I pointed at where the wolf lay watching us in silence.

"I doubt Lobo is far away, "Tizheruk stated as he stepped forward.

"Wait," I commanded him, and his steps faltered. "What ?"

"I am wondering why it has been watching and not attacking. I can smell the Cinnabar crystal breath, but it is just lying low," I stated.

"That is odd, "Tizheruk nodded.

"There are more wolves, " Haida raised her voice.

"What? How come I can’t sense them "

"I can only feel their breaths. I have no idea where they are, but the sound is as clear as the water. Different breathing patterns and I can count five," Haida whispered.

When I turned around to her, her eyes had gone gold with the lace of green around her pupils. I watched as Tizheruk walked over and stood behind her, feeling their powers merge. After a few minutes, Tizheruk stated, " We are surrounded. It’s a trap"

"Do not expose yourself, "I warned Tizheruk.

"He will not. I will make sure of it. " Haida’s assertive voice rose.

I moved forward and growled so loud as Anisha and Tizheruk stayed back.

"You better stay back and protect them, "I commanded.

Finally, the wolf crawled out on all fours, fierce, dripping with malice and corruption. It stepped forward snarling and a dark mist surrounded it. Its mouth was gaping and wide open, dripping saliva, and claws tipped its hands.

His aura emitted, chill and cold, as mist rose along with it. It had been years since I had seen such vile and audacious evil as It charged forward, an immediate physical attack, and I moved to dodge deftly, and it screeched, seething and emitting a horrid sound from its mouth.

" Use the power of the Adora and take out the Mangy wolf. He just needs to feed on your blood and the power will sip into his veins and neutralize the Cinnabar Crystal, " Dolf stated.

I stood at a distance and laughed at the mangy wolf. "You don’t expect to win this fight? Did Lobo not feed you enough for you to lust for my blood? How thirsty are you, anyway?"

The creature attacked again. I was evading every lash, and it discovered I was faster and stronger. It punched the ground and saliva dropped from its mouth.

Taunting it, I laughed. "Are you a wolf or an ape?"

I stood still and slit my wrist. Blood poured, and the creature lunged forward and descended on my arm. The action pushed both of us into the air and we were airborne as it lapped up my blood. Turning midair, I snapped its leg, but it recovered quickly.

We dodged through trees, and suddenly it gagged and took a step back. It dropped on the ground, twisting and clawing. I stood and stared down at it. Its eyes turned orange in pain as I sensed my blood burning its inside. It tried to stand up and staggered back, and then the mangy wolf shifted back into the human form.

"Who are you?." The words were said faintly.

"You fed on the Cinnabar crystal and turned into a mangy wolf letting Lobo control you? You forgot the human nature of a shifter?" I asked in anger.

"How come your blood is -" The man closed his mouth, the words getting stuck in his throat before he screeched, and blood plus body parts splattered everywhere.

Sadness filled my soul as I stared at the scene before me. This man had been a member of the shifter golden pack and Lobo Aria turned him into a mangy wolf. Turning back, I walked slowly back to where Tizheruk, Anisha, and Tala stood.

"You better not blame yourself. It had lost all humanity and turned into a beast," Anisha stated.

"Lobo Aria is too cruel, " Haida sniffed.

"I bet he wanted to draw you out. He must be suspecting that there is a creature amongst us. But I never knew that your blood is poisonous," I addressed Tizheruk.

"Exactly. It is not my blood, but the power of the Adora Crystal. Hence, he wanted to see how we killed the mangy wolf at Boris’s mansion. Let us not continue to give him a show, "I growled and then we turned and walked out of Mount Chugach. By the time we got to the foot of the mountain, Commander Abram and Oliver were waiting for us.

"He sent us on a wild goose chase, "Commander Abram snickered.

"He aimed to test us," I laughed. " And I bet he thinks that he got what he wanted"

"Let us not burst his bubble. "Commander Abram joined in the laughter.

"Where are the rest of your team? "Tizheruk asked.

"Hunting "Commander Abraham laughed.

"You are smart "Tizheruk nodded

"Years of experience. He thinks that he is hiding, but he exposes himself. And I bet that Isamu will come and find him. Hitting two birds with one stone" Oliver smiled.

"Let us go back to the mansion, " Anisha emphasized. " I hate being in the woods" She shuddered.

By the time we arrived back at the Freki mansion, we found Lucian and Zeeb pacing in the backyard. The minute they spotted us, Zeeb rushed over to Anisha, picked her up, and carried her through the door and I could hear the car leaving the parking lot.

"Aren’t I getting the same treatment ?" I teased Lucian, whose eyes were blazing with fury.

"We better get out of your hair. " Tizheruk said and then they went down to the bunker and we heard the door close. Commander Abram and Oliver retreated into the woods, and this made me chuckle.

"I can explain" I moved to embrace Lucian, who took a step back and I could feel his rage.

"Can you? You did this on purpose. Fool me to go and check on Jaxton while you go out hunting for Lobo Aria or Isamu," Lucian growled as he turned his back and walked to the living room.

"You make me sound like I wanted to do something evil, "I snapped at him.

He turned around and growled, "Conri Dolf, do you know how much panic you put me through?

"I would never expose myself to danger, "I asserted.

"So you don’t care how I feel? You would rather make decisions on your own?" Lucian yelled.

"Lower your voice," I commanded him.

"Why should I when Freki told me that you expose yourself and let that many wolves taste your blood? Who the hell has the right to do that? You are my mate. I am yours as much as you are mine, " Lucian growled.

His words hit home, and I felt the anger and hurt from him."I was just thinking of how to find Lobo Aria so that we can remain peaceful," I responded.

"Just thinking or you let Tizheruk’s words get to your head that Lobo Aria must be killed. I was categorically clear that I never want Lobo Aria’s blood on your hands. If you are to become Alpha, you can’t do so by killing him"

"If I were to become Alpha? Who the hell said I want to do so? I already told you, Lucian, I want a peaceful life with you. I want nothing to do with the golden shifter pack," I yelled back.
