Chapter 39: 39. Issac Shaw

Augustin spoke, breaking the silence. "I’ve found something."

Ethan stopped mid-step and turned to face him. "What is it?"

Augustin sighed, leaning back in his chair as he gathered his thoughts. "Isaac Shaw... isn’t who we thought he was."

Leclair’s brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"

Augustin tapped a few keys, bringing up a file that displayed a birth certificate and a set of adoption papers. "Isaac Shaw isn’t the biological son of the Shaw family. He was switched at birth."

Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise. "Switched? How is that possible?"

"It’s not as uncommon as you’d think in powerful families," Augustin explained, his voice calm but serious. "The Shaw family has always been secretive, but it seems there was a cover-up. The real son of the Shaws was exchanged with Isaac, but no one knows why, or who orchestrated it."

Leclair’s fingers tapped against the armrest of his wheelchair, his mind already working through the implications. "So, Isaac has been living a lie his entire life?"

"Exactly," Augustin nodded. "He was raised as the Shaw family’s child, but he was never treated as such. He was trained, molded, and used as a tool—blackmailed into doing their dirty work, all while knowing deep down that he didn’t belong."

Ethan shook his head, his expression darkening. "That’s... horrific. And no one ever told him the truth?"

"No," Augustin replied, his voice heavy with sympathy. "But recently, Isaac started uncovering fragments of his past. He found out that the exchange at birth might be tied to the death of his real family. And he suspects that Lady Sachel and Wuner Hudel are involved in the cover-up."

Ethan’s eyes flashed with anger at the mention of Wuner Hudel. "Of course. My mother would be at the center of something like this."

Leclair’s gaze sharpened, his mind already piecing together the puzzle. "If Isaac believes that Sachel and Wuner had something to do with his family’s death, then his vendetta isn’t just about uncovering the truth. It’s about revenge."

Augustin nodded. "Exactly. Isaac isn’t just looking for answers. He’s out for blood."

Ethan crossed his arms, his jaw clenched in frustration. "So, what does this have to do with Adrian’s kidnapping? Why did Isaac intervene that night?"

Augustin’s fingers tapped at the keys again, pulling up another document. "That’s the part we still don’t fully understand. But Isaac wasn’t there for Adrian. He was there for someone else."

Leclair’s gaze shifted to the screen, his voice calm but insistent. "We need to find out who that person was. If Isaac was willing to step in and save Adrian, it means that whoever he was after that night is deeply connected to this whole conspiracy."

Augustin scrolled through the footage from that fateful night, his eyes scanning the faces of everyone present. "There was someone else in that factory—a man in the shadows. He didn’t show up on any of the main footage, but I’ve been working to enhance the surrounding CCTVs."

Ethan stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as he focused on the screen. "You think that man was Isaac’s target?"

Augustin nodded, his fingers moving with precision as he zoomed in on a grainy image. "I’m certain of it. Whoever that man is, Isaac wasn’t just there to save him—he was protecting him."

Leclair’s expression grew darker. "Which means that whoever that man is, he holds the key to everything."

Ethan’s voice was sharp. "Then we need to find him."

Augustin clicked through several more screens, enhancing the image further. "I’m working on it. I’ve cross-referenced the footage with known associates of Lady Sachel and Wuner Hudel, but so far, nothing definitive has come up. This man is a ghost."

Leclair tapped his fingers against his chin in thought. "Whoever he is, he’s important enough for Isaac to risk exposing himself. That tells us two things: one, Isaac is getting desperate, and two, this man is the link between Isaac, Lady Sachel, and the Hudels."

Ethan’s hands balled into fists at his sides. "If my mother is involved in this, I’ll make sure he pays."

Leclair gave Ethan a calm but meaningful glance. "One step at a time, Ethan. We need to understand the full picture before we act. If we go in blind, we could lose everything."

Ethan’s jaw tightened, but he nodded. "You’re right. But I won’t sit idly by while this unfolds."

Augustin turned his chair to face both Ethan and Leclair, his voice firm. "I’ll keep digging. I’ll find out who that man is, and I’ll track Isaac’s movements. But we need to be cautious. Isaac isn’t working alone, and if we make a move too soon, it could backfire."

Leclair’s voice was steady as he spoke. "Agreed. We need to be patient. For now, we focus on gathering information. Once we have enough, we’ll strike."

Ethan exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "Fine. But we can’t wait too long. Adrian’s safety is my top priority, and if Isaac or my mother are a threat to him, I won’t hesitate to act."

Leclair smiled faintly, a hint of pride in his gaze. "I wouldn’t expect anything less."

Augustin returned to his work, his focus unwavering. The puzzle pieces were beginning to fall into place, but there were still too many unknowns. Isaac Shaw’s true motivations, the identity of the man in the factory, and the full extent of Lady Sachel and Wuner Hudel’s involvement were still shrouded in mystery.

But one thing was clear: Isaac was no longer just a pawn in this game. He was a player—one with his own agenda.

Leclair spoke quietly, his voice filled with determination. "We’ll find out the truth, Ethan. And when we do, we’ll make sure justice is served."

Ethan’s eyes darkened, his voice low and resolute. "Justice isn’t enough. I want them to suffer."

Leclair’s gaze softened, and he reached out, placing a reassuring hand on Ethan’s arm. "They will. But we’ll do it the right way. Step by step."

Ethan nodded, though the fire in his eyes remained. "I trust you. Both of you."

Augustin gave him a small smile, though his mind was still racing with possibilities. "We’ll protect Adrian. That’s a promise."

Leclair leaned back in his wheelchair, his expression thoughtful. "For now, we play the long game. But when the time comes, we’ll strike hard and fast."

Ethan’s voice was a quiet growl. "And they’ll never see it coming."

The three of them shared a silent look of understanding, the weight of their shared goal hanging heavy in the air. They were up against powerful forces, but they weren’t alone or weak.

But in the shadows, Isaac Shaw was watching. And his next move would change everything.
