Chapter 78: The Beginning of the Scandal
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Beginning of the Scandal
"Are you trying to stir up drama?"
"Don’t play dumb, I don’t believe you haven’t felt anything."
"All I feel is that his brain isn’t wired right."
"The brains of top celebs are all a bit off, do you think you’re any more normal?"
"Thanks for the auspicious words, I’m about to become a top celeb myself."
"Just because the brains of top celebs aren’t normal, doesn’t mean everyone with a weird brain is a top celeb." Zhou Lan glanced sideways at Zhou Yun, "Also, don’t think you can dodge the question. Tell me honestly, do you have feelings for him or not?"
"Does it matter if I have feelings? Anyway, it’s not possible for us two to date now," Zhou Yun said.
"That means you do have feelings," Zhou Lan concluded.
"That’s what you’re saying, not me," Zhou Yun stressed.
"You can keep deluding yourself." Zhou Lan went straight for the kill, "Why can’t you two date now?"
"You think Song Chi’s fans are all vegetarians?" Zhou Yun widened her eyes, as if to say "Isn’t that obvious?"
"Right now, everyone thinks the two of you are dating," Zhou Lan pointed out, dismissing the supposed obstacle Zhou Yun mentioned.
"Just go and check the super topic about Song Chi, and you’ll see how much his fans believe our joint statement," Zhou Yun wasn’t talking nonsense.
"So you’ve been secretly checking out his super topic? And you still say you have no feelings for him?" Zhou Lan caught Zhou Yun’s slip and pressed on.
"Me checking his super topic means I have feelings for him, your logic is flawed," Zhou Yun stubbornly argued.
The two went back and forth several times, both ending up tired.
"Imagine how much effort you’d save dating Song Chi?" Zhou Lan spoke her mind from a practical viewpoint.
Zhou Yun gave a small laugh and said, "If a career is built through a romance with a man, could it withstand if the romance ends?"
"Gisele Bundchen didn’t hit rock bottom in her career after breaking up with Leo, did she?"
"That’s because she was already a hotshot supermodel even before dating the superstar, get it?"
"Whatever you say."
"Of course, whatever I say. It’s not like you can force me into dating him, right?"
"He Yong might just dare to do that," Zhou Lan couldn’t help but laugh.
Thinking about it, Zhou Yun felt that indeed possible according to He Yong’s style.
She said, "Then I would just expose him online for pimping."
"That sounds utterly non-threatening," Zhou Lan remarked as she sat up to get some water, "You’d better think about what to do after ’Eighth Heartbeat’ is finished shooting. If you keep staying single, they might just arrange a sequel for ’Eighth Heartbeat’."
"I’ve reviewed my contract carefully; the agency can’t force me to take roles I don’t want," Zhou Yun said.
"Contracts are contracts, but do you really think they have no other way to pressure you?" Zhou Lan came back with the water, "After this incident, you should realize only once you become powerful yourself will others not dare to affront you."
"In these few months, work hard on finding the right script. With so many film companies sending me scripts, isn’t there a single one that’s suitable?" Zhou Yun asked.
"There are suitable ones, but the agency definitely won’t allow you to take them."
"Why not?"
"They offer too little pay," Zhou Lan explained, "Some have decent quality, but the pay they offer doesn’t meet market standards. You might do one film for half a year and only earn the company a few million; they’d rather you do more variety shows."
Zhou Yun sighed, "So realistic."
"For movies that are all-around excellent, there’s more demand than supply. These producers don’t lack popular actors to cast, unless you become as famous as Song Chi—but never mind that."
"Can you stop bringing him up?" Zhou Yun picked up her phone, startled for a moment, heh, this persistent guy actually called her twenty minutes ago, which she had missed.
She got up, ready to head to the bedroom and call back.
It was better to keep this call from Zhou Lan.
Otherwise, she’d start nagging again.
"Are you going to sleep?" Zhou Lan asked.
Zhou Yun replied, "Just returning a call."
Zhou Lan smirked, "It’s not Song Chi, is it?"
Zhou Yun turned around, looking very impatiently at Zhou Lan, "Why don’t you just go be his agent?"
"If you guys become a celebrity couple, I wouldn’t mind working for both of you."
"..." Zhou Yun rolled her eyes, turned, and went into the bedroom, closing the door behind her.
As soon as Zhou Yun returned the call, Song Chi picked up.
"Have you been on a secret date? Took you so long to notice my missed call," Song Chi teased right away.
Zhou Yun snorted, "Isn’t my secret boyfriend you? Don’t you know if I’ve been dating him?"
Song Chi: "...Who’s your secret boyfriend?"
"Speak up if you have something to say, go bother those annoying paparazzi with queries," Zhou Yun retorted.
Song Chi muttered, "Still so irritable."
Zhou Yun couldn’t help but grind her teeth again.
Finally, Song Chi got to the point.
"I need a favor from you."
This was the first time Song Chi had seriously asked her for help.
"What do you need? Tell me."
Song Chi said, "I need to invite someone out for dinner, but I can’t let my agent find out who it is; I need you to cover for me."
"Huh? Who do you need to meet that’s so secretive? Even your agent doesn’t know; it’s not your illegitimate daughter, is it?"
"Scram, scram, scram, you’re the one with an illegitimate daughter," Song Chi replied, exasperated.
Zhou Yun laughed, "Okay, sure, just let me know in advance. If I’m free, no problem."
"Send me your free slots when you’re in Shanghai, and I’ll make the arrangements," Song Chi said.
"Got it, wait a moment, I’ll ask Sister Lan and send it to you," Zhou Yun replied.
Song Chi hummed in response.
"If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up," Zhou Yun said.
"Wait," Song Chi interjected.
"What else is there?" Zhou Yun inquired.
"Do you... really not have a boyfriend?" Song Chi hesitantly asked.
Zhou Yun’s brows knitted together, "What’s that got to do with you? Isn’t it obvious why I can’t?"
"True," Song Chi chuckled lightly.
Zhou Yun somehow felt a touch of loneliness in Song Chi’s light laughter.
"Nothing else, hanging up," and with that, Song Chi ended the call.
Zhou Yun realized that her heart had somehow started beating faster.
She touched her face; it was a bit hot.
Crazy?
Had Zhou Lan’s teasing actually thrown her into such disarray?
Zhou Yun patted her face, imagining Song Chi’s image in her mind.
Truthfully, she hadn’t known Song Chi for long and their direct interactions were few, with only two real meetings. Yet, under the subliminal influence of the surroundings, there seemed to be a familiar closeness as if they were already intimate.
Was it an illusion, or a hidden longing in her heart?
