Chapter 68: Chapter 68: The Beginning of the Scandal
Zheng Xiaojue came back holding an iced latte and a blanket.
"Sister Xiao Yun, I’m back."
Zhou Yun put down her phone, taking the latte.
"Hard work."
Zheng Xiaojue grinned and said, "It was nothing."
Zhou Yun scrutinized Zheng Xiaojue’s face and suddenly thought of something, "Xiaoju, where’s your hometown?"
Zheng Xiaojue answered, "Henan."
Zhou Yun smiled and said, "I thought you were from Hubei like Sister Lan."
"Ah? Sister Lan’s from Hubei? I didn’t know," said Zheng Xiaojue, "Do I have a Hubei accent when I speak?"
"No, it’s just that you seem pretty familiar with Sister Lan, and you two share some similarities. I was wondering if you’re from the same place, so you might have similar habits," Zhou Yun explained.
Zheng Xiaojue laughed innocently and said, "Really? I’m so happy. I really admire Sister Lan, so I always try to imitate her."
"Hmm? Admiration? Why?" Zhou Yun asked.
"Because I want to be an agent too," Zheng Xiaojue said. "The company said during recruitment that if an assistant performs well, they could become an agent. I want to be an agent just like Sister Lan."
Zheng Xiaojue was very young and had the youthful determination and stubbornness of young people.
"You’re only eighteen this year, aren’t you?" Zhou Yun asked.
"Yes," Zheng Xiaojue nodded.
"So young."
"But Sister Xiao Yun, you look even younger. They told me you’ve graduated from university," Zheng Xiaojue’s face suddenly blushed, "And, Sister Xiao Yun, you’re so beautiful."
Zhou Yun looked at Zheng Xiaojue seriously for a moment and said, "You’re actually quite pretty too, but you have some acne and uneven skin tone. I’ll get you some skin care products later. Pay attention to skin cleanliness every day, and you’ll be beautiful too."
Zheng Xiaojue’s face lit up with a flattered expression, "Really? Thank you, Sister Xiao Yun!"
Zhou Yun smiled, "Don’t be so formal all the time."
At this point, Zhou Lan finally returned.
As she pushed the door open and entered, she happened to see the grateful and excited smile on Zheng Xiaojue’s face and paused.
Hearing the door, Zheng Xiaojue turned her head and excitedly called out, "Sister Lan!"
Zhou Lan smiled and said, "What are you guys chatting about, looking so happy?"
Zheng Xiaojue was about to reply when Zhou Yun spoke up, "Sister Lan, how does the company plan to handle it?"
Zhou Lan came in and said, "We’ve communicated with Song Chi’s side, and we’ve agreed to unify our message. We’ll release a statement soon saying you guys were simply having a casual gathering last night."
"Okay," Zhou Yun nodded.
It was, after all, just a causal gathering.
"However, with those photos taken by Lin Xiaomiao, most people probably won’t believe the statement," Zhou Lan said. "Of course, this can work to your advantage—if others don’t believe the statement, you’ll continue to be regarded as Song Chi’s rumored girlfriend, and that won’t be a small amount of attention."
Zhou Yun stayed silent.
"Sister Lan."
"Yes?"
"Regarding those photos taken by Lin Xiaomiao, does the company not plan to give any explanation?" Zhou Yun asked.
"We considered explaining, but ultimately decided against it," Zhou Lan explained. "Those photos only capture moments, and everyone interprets emotions differently. Forcing an explanation might not be accepted by people, so Minister Hong decided to simply avoid explaining and make a definitive statement about last night’s event. Regardless of what the fans want to say, as long as our stance is clear, that’s enough."
"What about Song Chi’s side? Do they agree?"
"The final decision was discussed by both sides," Zhou Lan said. "I think we should trust the judgment of the professionals."
"Can I leave then?" Zhou Yun asked.
Zhou Lan nodded, "Be careful on the way back. There are bound to be lots of reporters keeping an eye on you."
"I will."
"Also, the producer and director of ’Eighth Heartbeat’ want to meet with you. I’m planning to schedule it for this Friday at noon, how does that sound?" Zhou Lan asked.
"Good," Zhou Yun nodded.
The two handled affairs with a professional demeanor, and the conversation ended with business matters.
Zhou Lan stayed at the company to deal with other affairs.
Zheng Xiaojue accompanied Zhou Yun back.
"Sister Xiao Yun, I’ll go return the blanket first," she said.
"Okay, I’m going to the restroom. See you at the elevator," Zhou Yun replied.
As she crossed the corridor, she encountered many Chengqian Entertainment employees. She rarely comes to the company, so she didn’t see them often. On the way, their glances were full of inquiry and a bit of strangeness.
Suddenly, in that moment, her phone rang.
It was a call from Song Chi.
In such a public place, Zhou Yun didn’t dare to answer Song Chi’s call and had to find a fire escape to talk. She received Song Chi’s call there.
"You took long enough to answer," Song Chi started with a complaint.
Zhou Yun was accustomed to Song Chi’s way of speaking.
"I’m at the company. Is there something you need? If not, I can call you back later."
"Listen to you, acting bigger than me," Song Chi continued his snide remarks.
Zhou Yun couldn’t help but laugh, "Can you get to the point? I’m standing in a fire escape talking to you."
"Alright, enough crap," Song Chi said. "Let’s get to business. Your company has told you, right? In a bit, both our companies will make a joint statement, clarifying our innocence."
"Right," Zhou Yun affirmed. "Thanks to you, I’m going to be hunted down by your fans again."
Song Chi huffed but ultimately didn’t argue.
He knew the combativeness of his fans all too well.
He couldn’t deny it.
"Don’t take those online comments to heart."
"I’m not taking it to heart," Zhou Yun said.
"You’re in good spirits?" Song Chi sounded disbelieving.
"It’s not that, Song Chi, whether I’m in good spirits or not has nothing to do with you. What do you want to say with this call anyway?"
"How does it have nothing to do with me? After all, most of those who go trash you are my fans." As Song Chi spoke, his voice grew fainter, "Forget it, seeing as you sound so confident, you’re probably fine. I’m worrying for nothing. Hanging up."
Song Chi actually hung up after saying so.
Zhou Yun felt inexplicably baffled.
On the other end, Song Chi looked at his phone screen that had gone back to the main menu and snorted, muttering, "Being nice and calling to comfort you, but you don’t appreciate it."
Footsteps approached.
It was Luo Yuhu.
Song Chi’s expression immediately changed to one that was indifferent and distant.
Luo Yuhu said in frustration, "Song Chi, what’s the real deal between you and Zhou Yun? How did you end up going out together last night? This woman is too crafty, not content with riding on your coattails once, she’s doing it again. She’s just shearing the wool off you, the sheep."
Song Chi replied, "This has nothing to do with her, blame Lin Xiaomiao for it."
Luo Yuhu scoffed and said, "I could bet my life on it, Zhou Yun is one of those women who just wants to cling on to you for her success. I’ve seen plenty of such women, acting like little white rabbits in front of men, but they’re darker than anyone on the inside. Song Chi, don’t tell me you’ve really been seduced by her beauty?"
Luo Yuhu’s gaze was full of suspicion.
