Chapter 67: Chapter 67: The Beginning of the Scandal
Zhou Yun had been pondering why He Yong’s attitude towards her had taken a complete one-eighty.
No matter how she thought about it, there was only one variable, and that was the unexpected revelation today.
Perhaps He Yong had mistakenly believed that she was really in a relationship with Song Chi, and so, the identity of Song Chi’s girlfriend had caused him to change his attitude towards her.
A female celebrity rumored to be involved with Song Chi versus one who is Song Chi’s girlfriend carries very different weight.
"President He, I didn’t mean anything else, just that, if those photos taken by the journalist Lin Xiaomiao have caused any misunderstanding, I need to clarify with you first that there’s nothing between me and Song Chi. We are not a couple, nor are we in a relationship, unlike what she said."
Zhou Yun shook her head smilingly and said: "Please don’t misunderstand."
He Yong laughed.
"Do you think all that I said to you just now was because of your relationship with Song Chi?"
Zhou Yun shook her head, "I just don’t want you to misunderstand."
"Alright." He Yong spread his hands in a helpless gesture, "Let’s not talk about that. We’re already communicating with Song Chi’s side about this incident and will issue a joint statement in due course."
"Okay." Zhou Yun nodded, "President He, do I still need to stay here?"
In fact, public relations didn’t have much to do with her. Most first- and second-tier celebrities have their own teams, but Zhou Yun didn’t, and for any issues she has now, she mainly relies on company personnel to handle them, which is different from how many other celebrities manage their public relations. These people aren’t responsible for her, but for the company, and her being here doesn’t make much of a substantive difference.
"Zhou Lan said you don’t have any other work later, so you might as well stay a little longer for anything that needs to be communicated promptly," He Yong said. "You can rest in my office; no one will bother you."
"I’d rather change spots," Zhou Yun smiled and waved her hand, "President He, resting in your office pressures me."
"Then alright."
Zheng Xiaojue was waiting for her outside. As soon as Zhou Yun came out, Zheng Xiaojue approached her and said, "Sister Xiao Yun, Sister Lan said she had some matters to attend to and has already left."
"Okay." Zhou Yun looked back at He Yong.
He Yong called his assistant over to arrange a resting room for Zhou Yun.
As soon as Zhou Yun entered and everyone left, she immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sister Xiao Yun, did President He need you for something?" Zheng Xiaojue asked, "When Sister Lan came out earlier, she looked very upset."
"Is that so?" Zhou Yun lay on the sofa, her single hand covering her eyes, "I’m a bit sleepy, going to take a nap first."
Upon hearing this, Zheng Xiaojue immediately stood up, "I’ll go see if there’s a blanket."
"There’s no need." Zhou Yun said.
But Zheng Xiaojue shook his head, "That won’t do, what if you catch a cold sleeping like this."
Zheng Xiaojue’s expression was very serious.
Zhou Yun couldn’t help laughing and crying, telling Zheng Xiaojue to sit down, "I’m just taking a short nap, not sleeping for three or four hours."
"Sister Xiao Yun, Sister Lan reminded me, you’ve got a lot of work coming up, and you need to keep yourself in good health," Zheng Xiaojue said.
Feeling helpless and realizing how stubborn Zheng Xiaojue was being, Zhou Yun finally said, "Then go and ask for me, and by the way, go buy me a cup of latte, iced."
"Oh, okay." Zheng Xiaojue obeyed and went off immediately.
Zhou Yun yawned.
Woken up early in the morning and having been tense while talking to He Yong, now that she had relaxed, she immediately felt drowsy.
She picked up her phone, intending to see what was happening on Weibo.
As expected, the whole place was discussing how long she and Song Chi have been secretly dating.
Zhou Yun really wanted to respond that it wasn’t even for a minute.
But she also knew she couldn’t do that. If she responded like that, all the online public opinion cannons would focus on her alone.
In fact, Song Chi’s fans had already amassed under her Weibo comment section, taking turns to leave insulting messages.
After all, in their eyes, she had stolen their boyfriend.
The relationship between the artist and fans is built on a kind of imagined possessiveness and control.
Just then, a new message came in on her phone.
The moment Zhou Yun saw the pop-up, her pupils shrunk, and her expression stiffened.
It was that same strange number, reappearing after a period of disappearance.
—I wasn’t around for a while, and you started dating someone, such disobedience.
Zhou Yun gently bit her lip.
Frightened and angry.
She felt a chill throughout her body, numbness creeping up.
A knock on the door sounded.
Zhou Yun returned from the chilling state and looked toward the door.
The door was opened from outside, and the person who came in took Zhou Yun by surprise.
It was actually Wei Ru Xue.
"Sister Xue." Zhou Yun looked at her, surprised.
Wei Ru Xue took off her sunglasses, closed the door behind her, walked in, and looked Zhou Yun up and down before suddenly scoffing.
"I thought you had some backbone, but it turns out you can’t escape the ordinary either."
Zhou Yun didn’t understand Wei Ru Xue’s meaning and said, "Sister Xue, I don’t know what you mean."
"One moment cozy with Lu Yicheng, and the next you’re hooking up with Song Chi; quite the skills you’ve got there, pretending to be an innocent in front of me," Wei Ru Xue said disdainfully with a sneer.
Lu Yicheng was another deputy general manager at Chengqian Entertainment and the person who had hinted at her several times. If Zhou Yun agreed and slept with him, she would become one of Chengqian Entertainment’s most valued female artists. Zhou Yun’s career had been stagnant largely due to Wei Ru Xue’s sabotage and also from Lu Yicheng’s suppression, as he was waiting for Zhou Yun to bow down.
Being slandered by Wei Ru Xue like this made Zhou Yun’s face darken.
"Sister Xue is my senior. Do you also believe in rumors without checking the evidence?" Zhou Yun retorted.
Wei Ru Xue laughed coldly, "What are you saying? You mean you’re still pure and unrelated?"
Zhou Yun asked, "Why would Sister Xue think I’m involved with them?"
Wei Ru Xue: "How do you explain those photos online?"
"What needs to be explained by me?" Zhou Yun countered, "Sister Xue, asking a person slandered for evidence, aren’t you mistaking the party?"
Wei Ru Xue: "Very sharp-tongued."
Zhou Yun fell silent.
"Whether you admit it or not, I want to remind you that relying on a man to climb up is no real talent. Don’t treat the sweet moments you have now as anything special; ice cream will melt."
"Thank you for the reminder, Sister Xue."
Wei Ru Xue turned and left with long strides.
Zhou Yun frowned silently.
What was the purpose of Wei Ru Xue’s visit today? Was it just to express her displeasure?
That didn’t seem like what Wei Ru Xue would do, as she always maintained her status and never initiated confrontations. Why then did she come directly to Zhou Yun’s resting room today?
