Chapter 911: Chapter 911: A Hanging Corpse on the Tree
Just the food almost caused them casualties, so what about the ’surprise’ the masked man mentioned?
Luan Xing’s vigilance towards this survival game hit its peak. He called over the sullen young man Li Wei and the security captain, and the three of them went to where Geng Xingshu was recuperating to discuss future strategies.
Now the only ones Luan Xing can relatively trust are the four who dared to step up today. He plans to unite these four together, and then with their small group of four, they can further control the nineteen people in the safety camp.
Li Wei showed no interest in this, but he wouldn’t hinder their actions, so only the three of them temporarily formed a group.
The three discussed for an hour, planning to reveal everything to everyone the next morning, twist everyone into a tight knot, and work together to survive this survival game.
Their plan was solid. Once things stabilized, they would first find something to block the four entrances, and then form a team to explore the world beyond the hallways, to see if they could find a way out.
But none of them expected the change to occur that very night.
The space in the cabin was limited, with only two compartments, forcing everyone to squeeze in, men and women in the two small compartments.
A bonfire was lit outside, with people taking turns to stand watch.
When it was the turn of the bearded stout man to stand watch, his eyes rolled around twice, wanting to sneak into the girls’ compartment but fearing provoking everyone’s wrath and getting beaten to death, he could only stay by the fire with patience.
Half-asleep, the stout man vaguely saw a long-haired woman sneak out of the cabin and head to a small patch of shade nearby, probably to use the bathroom.
The stout man was overjoyed, finally finding an opportunity. Locked up here with six beauties, if he didn’t try something, how was he different from a salted fish?
Luan Xing, always a bit alert in the cabin, peeked out from the shabby window and saw the stout man with a peculiar grin walking into the woods.
He glanced through a crack at the other compartment—all six girls were there, leaving him scratching his head in confusion. He assumed the stout man had gone to handle personal business and didn’t bother with him.
Unexpectedly, the stout man never returned.
The next morning, a few girls, complaining all the way, went together to the woods to use the bathroom.
Women used to urban life suddenly transferred to such a place would surely have many discomforts.
Take sleeping for example, not to mention minor issues like a lack of bedding; there wasn’t even a bed board, forcing everyone to sleep on moldy floors in a house that leaked air everywhere. If not huddled together, they might catch cold easily.
Besides the serious sleeping issue, even using the bathroom posed great difficulties since there was no toilet paper in the supply box.
For minor relief, they could manage somehow, but major relief became a significant problem. They could rely on tearing clothes for a while but couldn’t constantly do so.
So the women began searching the forest, hoping to find some suitable leaves to solve their big problem.
They searched while complaining—from the living environment to the men’s gazes to the toughness of bear meat.
But they were only complaining; the women were sensible and didn’t have spoiled princess syndrome. No matter how dissatisfied, they knew how to survive better in such circumstances.
Acting spoiled in such circumstances would only be courting death.
The wealthy young lady Zhao Xuelu had always cherished her life, so despite all being unbearable here, she forced herself to endure.
Her father Zhao Hongmin used to be an executive at the Ruixing Group and now is a famous toy tycoon in the Capital District. The resources she enjoyed growing up were the best among her peers.
But her upbringing taught her to recognize reality and understand that no one is obligated to accommodate her.
In this dire circumstance, all she could do was rely on herself as much as possible, add minimal trouble to others, and help as much as she could. By doing this, she’d demonstrate her value and ensure she wasn’t abandoned in dangerous times.
During the search, Zhao Xuelu suddenly felt something drip onto her face.
Sticky, moist, with a slightly nauseating smell. She touched it and saw it was already rotten, putrid blood!
Looking up, she let out a scream, rolled her eyes, and fainted.
Though she tried her best, the scene she witnessed struck her hard.
On the treetop hung a corpse with hollowed organs and carved-out features; its expression was terrifyingly gruesome, unlike something humans could make.
It was the stout man who sneaked out the previous night!
The other women rushed over upon hearing Zhao Xuelu’s voice, their screams rising one after another.
Luan Xing and others hurried over after hearing the noise, initially thinking the girls had been scared by some plague-carrying creatures like rats or snakes.
But seeing what hung on the tree, everyone fell silent.
Geng Xingshu sighed, secretly guarding against the stout man because his malicious disguises were crude; many could tell he was troubled. But who’d have thought he’d be the first to die?
Luan Xing’s face turned steel-gray. He realized things were beyond his control now. If it was just beasts and people, his battlefield experience would be enough to ensure most survived the month, with a high chance of him surviving to the end.
But what if their challenges involved more than hunger, humans, and wild beasts?
The stout man’s expression at their encounter last night was odd, as if a beauty was ahead, but Luan Xing had seen nothing.
The corpse hanging now wasn’t something a beast could manage. If it were a leopard, it might drag the body up a tree but only eat the organs, not precisely remove the features!
Perhaps this corpse was what the masked man meant by ’surprises,’ crafted into a tragedy.
Sullen short-statured Li Wei merely gripped his dagger tighter. As a new recruit in a special tactical team, he understood more precisely than Luan Xing what they found.
Wen Wen, hiding among the women and trembling in fear with them, had eyes clear as day.
This stout man’s death couldn’t deceive him; it was even directly related to Wen Wen.
In the storyline setting, Wen Wen made a suggestion to Jidro that the environment could be harsh, but there must be no disrespect towards women, unless consensual.
