Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The Dark Palm Print (3rd Update)
The two’s destination was in the eastern suburbs of Furong River City, a villa district near the city’s nursing home, but even though it was outside the city, the price of the villas was probably not low.
"Is your classmate’s family very wealthy, or is dog breeding very profitable?" Wen Wen asked, turning his head.
From the parked vehicles, it was evident that the residents here were either rich or noble, yet her classmate was using such a place for dog breeding?
"I haven’t heard that his family is very wealthy, but he has bragged to me that they rented the villa very cheaply, which is probably because there was something wrong with that house, making it so affordable," Jiao Xinlei thought for a moment before replying.
Wen Wen nodded, took note of this point, and continued driving.
After driving for a while, Jiao Xinlei suddenly pointed ahead and said to Wen Wen, "Hey, isn’t that Wen Yue up front? She seems very sad. Stop the car for a moment; I’ll get out and check on her."
Up ahead on the road, a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl, dragging a suitcase and wearing an orange tracksuit, walked alone with her head down.
Wen Wen stopped the car, and Jiao Xinlei went up to her, intending to ask about the situation.
...
Jiang Wenyue dragged her suitcase, sobbing as she walked.
She just couldn’t stand that home any longer, with all sorts of strange occurrences happening one after another. It was as if there weren’t just the four of them in the house, but countless people hiding in corners, watching their every move.
Opening a cabinet sometimes revealed a fleeting face, turning on the light momentarily showed a blurred shadow, and there seemed to always be someone else present in the cramped bathroom...
And that dog, it had been getting stranger and stranger lately!
Even if their family moved away, those eerie events would still follow them like shadows, so she decided not to stay at home anymore.
She had contacted a classmate who said she could stay with them for a few days, hoping it would spare her further mental torment.
As she walked by the roadside, she suddenly saw ahead Jiao Xinlei and a strange man waving at her.
She recognized Jiao Xinlei, who was close to her brother, and at one point thought she might become her sister-in-law.
But that man...
He made her feel very uneasy, and for a moment, she thought Wen Wen was like those things in her house. Could it be that those things could appear even in broad daylight?
Jiang Wenyue, terrified out of her wits, abandoned her suitcase and started to run in the opposite direction.
She had actually been on the verge of collapse for some time now.
"Hey, what’s wrong with this kid? It’s like she’s seen something terrifying."
Jiao Xinlei glanced suspiciously at Wen Wen. He did look quite frightening at a glance, and with Jiang Wenyue’s current mental state being possibly unstable, it wasn’t impossible that Wen Wen had scared her.
Suddenly, Jiang Wenyue fell flat on the ground, tumbling onto the roadway and unable to get up!
In an instant, she couldn’t rise to her feet!
Jiao Xinlei hurried over to try and help Jiang Wenyue up. There weren’t many cars on this road, so an accident seemed unlikely...
No sooner had this thought crossed her mind than Jiao Xinlei’s heart leapt, because a private car was driving toward Jiang Wenyue’s direction. There was enough distance to stop, but the approaching vehicle showed no signs of halting!
Jiang Wenyue, lying on the ground, unable to get up, wore a look of despair. She feared her life would end here.
Perhaps dying would not be so bad; at least she would no longer suffer.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her by the collar, and she was tossed onto the pedestrian walkway. The man who saved her was the same man in the black coat she’d just seen!
That man stood still, not dodging, as the car raced toward him.
"Is this man going to be hit by a car to save me..." Jiang Wenyue’s mind flashed through countless soap opera scenarios, and then she felt moved by her own thoughts.
Wen Wen squinted, watching the approaching car.
The driver’s eyes were somewhat hazy; clearly, he was unaware of what was ahead.
"Ha... what a hassle."
Just as he was about to be hit by the car, Wen Wen sighed, placed his hand on the hood, pressed hard, and leveraged himself to jump right over the roof!
Jiang Wenyue and Jiao Xinlei both widened their eyes as if they had seen a superhero.
Pressed hard by Wen Wen, the car shook violently, and the driver sobered up, stopped the car, rolled down the window, and stuck his head out to curse at Wen Wen.
"What the hell are you doing standing in the middle of the road, looking for death? If you haven’t lived enough, go jump in a river!" Most drivers were somewhat irritable on the road.
Wen Wen’s expression turned inconvenient, and he walked over, grabbed the driver’s hair, and rubbed it back and forth against the window until the driver’s face was scraped raw.
"What... why are you hitting me?" The driver slurred his words, his whole face burning with pain.
"There are countless rules on the road, safety is the top priority, careless driving will bring tears to your family."
Wen Wen said earnestly, "You were driving drunk, so I’m teaching you a lesson on behalf of your parents!"
"Yes, yes, it was my fault."
The driver nodded in agreement, quickly softened up, and after driving the car five or six meters away said, "You just wait for me, I..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Wen Wen grabbed his hair again. The driver’s eyes widened in disbelief, looking at Wen Wen. He had planned that the moment Wen Wen made a move, he’d step on the gas and leave—how could Wen Wen be so fast?
"You still have eighteen generations of ancestors, do you need me to teach you a lesson on their behalf?" Wen Wen said with a good-natured tone.
"No more, no more," the driver quickly waved his hands.
Wen Wen let go, and the driver drove off obediently, not daring to speak harshly anymore.
The driver had been drinking, but it was likely just a small drink; it wasn’t possible that he couldn’t see the pedestrians on the road clearly. The reason why he drove straight into them was probably due to some kind of bewitchment.
Wen Wen’s actions just now had sobered up the driver, otherwise, in his state, he might have caused another car accident.
So, Wen Wen beating him was for his own good.
Yeah, that was definitely it.
"You were still behind me just now, how did you rescue Wen Yue so quickly?" Jiao Xinlei asked Wen Wen in amazement.
"Detectives run fast, that’s normal," Wen Wen crouched in front of Jiang Wenyue, squinting as he looked her over.
"How did you manage to pick someone up with one hand and throw them like that!" She didn’t believe Wen Wen’s explanation.
"Detectives are strong, that’s normal," Wen Wen replied dismissively, still staring at Jiang Wenyue.
"Well, okay, you’re a detective, that’s normal." Jiao Xinlei was about to ask how Wen Wen jumped from the car, but she guessed what his answer would be and stopped herself.
Wen Wen continued staring at Jiang Wenyue, making the high school girl feel somewhat embarrassed. Being looked at like this by her savior made her shy.
"Um... how much longer do you need to look?" Jiang Wenyue asked softly.
"Oh, sorry, I was deep in thought." Wen Wen withdrew his gaze and pointed at Jiang Wenyue’s leg, saying, "Take off your pants."
Jiang Wenyue: "???"
Jiao Xinlei: "???"
Even if it’s the classic hero saving the beauty, and the beauty offering herself in gratitude, you’re rushing things a bit too much!
"What are you doing, she’s just a child!" Jiao Xinlei exclaimed, pushing Wen Wen away.
Wen Wen explained, "I’m not going to do anything, just looking at your leg."
Both women’s expressions turned even more quizzical—it sounded like he was saying, "I’m just going to rub it, not put it in..."
"Ah, you women, why are your thoughts so dirty?"
Wen Wen sighed, knowing that some things just can’t be explained with words.
He reached out directly, grabbed Jiang Wenyue’s leg, took out a small knife from his embrace, and cut open a section of her pant leg.
Seeing this scene, both women closed their mouths.
Because on Jiang Wenyue’s pristine white leg, there was a startling black handprint...
It was a human palm print!
